Galaxy Note 2 photo shows up over at Samsung’s Facebook page, could be real or fake

Before anything else, I’d like to advise you to take this report with the finest grain of salt that you can find. Whether it’s real or fake, the photo that you are seeing above was taken from the official Facebook page of Samsung Pakistan. Now the photo has been around since February and it has even been used as a reference to the then-unknown Galaxy S3. When the photo was published earlier today via Samsung Pakistan, many speculated that this could indeed be the next-generation Galaxy Note that is expected to be launched this month in Berlin.

Although the photo has now been removed, it’s interesting to see that it doesn’t have a home button and a bezel. This could be photoshopped, but it somewhat supports our previous report that Samsung could release a bezel-less Android phone soon. Even more interesting will be the possibility that the Galaxy Note 2 could feature a flexible AMOLED display. Anyway, while writing this post, Samsung Pakistan now confirms that the photo was a mistake. It turns out that a moderator of theirs picked up the wrong image from Google. We still have a few more weeks to go before Samsung will finally make it official. For now, imaginations are flying high.

Thief 4 rumored to be developed for next-gen consoles

If you’ve enjoyed playing games like Assassin’s Creed and Hitman, then the Thief franchise might be something you could enjoy as well. Either way for fans of the franchise, you guys are no doubt aware that Thief 4 is currently in the works. It was announced back in 2009 and back then it was stated that it was only in early development. Come 2012 and there still isn’t much to go on regarding the game, but according to the OXM, it seems that Thief 4 will be passing on the current generation of gaming consoles and will instead be released on next-gen consoles, like the Xbox 720 (a.k.a Durango) which many believe will be making its debut at E3 next year. Of course apart from analyst predictions and rumors, there is nothing official regarding next-gen gaming consoles at the moment, so we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now. However hypothetically speaking, if Thief 4 were indeed being made for next-gen consoles, what sort of features do you think we can expect, apart from presumably amazing graphics?

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 2 rumored to feature flexible AMOLED displays

There has been some mention of flexible smartphones lately, and we have also reported on how Korean scientists have come up with a flexible battery which looks like a perfect complement for a flexible smartphone. However the question we’re sure many are wondering is when exactly will we see these devices? According to rumors back in 2011, Samsung is reportedly working on such a device and thanks to a new set of rumors, it seems that the upcoming Galaxy Note 2, poised for an unveiling on the 29th of August, could be the device that will introduce a flexible Super AMOLED display panel.

At this point in time it is uncertain as to what the device could look like, but supposedly the introduction of the flexible display helped to free up space for a larger battery. Apart from its rumored 5.5” 16:9 display and now the rumors of a flexible Super AMOLED panel, not much else is known about the device but be sure to check back with us on the 29th of August for the details! Until then we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now.

Alleged Nikon 1 J2 specs surface, appears identical to the J1 except for its display

The other day we reported that photos of the alleged Nikon 1 J2 had leaked and based on what we’ve seen, it looks as thought Nikon took away the “1” in the J1 and replaced it with a “2”. At that time not much details were known, at least until now when alleged details of the Nikon 1 J2 have emerged. According to these specs, it is pretty much identical to the J1, such as its 10.1MP CX sensor, an EXPEED 3 processor although one of the main differences we could discern was its new 920k dot LCD display, which is an improvement over the J1 and would make it the same as the V1.

We’re not sure what the point is in introducing a “new” camera with the same specs as its predecessor, with the exception of its display. Then again, these are rumors at the moment which means that these alleged leaked specs might not be the real deal. Either way if the rumors are to be believed, a release date for the J2 could be announced next week, so stay tuned – until then we suggest taking this with a grain of salt.

High end Nikon Coolpix with 28-200mm f/2.4 lens rumored to be announced at the end of the month

The Nikon P7100 was released last year which makes sense to think that there is a chance its successor could be released this year. Now according to the folks at Nikon Rumors, it seems that Nikon will be unveiling a new high end Coolpix camera at the end of the month. It is expected to feature a 28-200mm f/2.4 lens, but apart from that, not much else is known. It is unclear if this will be the P7200 the successor to last year’s P7100, or if it will be in a new category altogether. Either way it seems that this particular camera is expected to be the rival to Canon’s PowerShot G1X, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled so be sure to check back with us at a later date for more info!

Battlefield 3 reportedly cancelled for the Wii U, “straight port” of Battlefield 4 being worked on instead [Rumor]

If you were looking forward to playing Battlefield 3 on the Nintendo Wii U, you could be out of luck. According to an anonymous source (via Wii U Daily), both EA and DICE were working on a Wii U version of Battlefield 3. However due to a “feud” with Nintendo over the integration of Origin on the Wii U, the project was then shelved. If you are a bit bummed out by that news, here’s something that might cheer you up. iPhone 5 nano-SIM tray and home button spotted?

The iPhone 4S and its micro SIM card certainly did introduce its fair share of frustrations to smartphone owners, as they had to go to a nearby mobile phone shop to get existing SIM cards cut out to fit the new handset from Cupertino, or to purchase a brand new micro SIM card (for unlocked phones, of course) altogether. Well, there seems to be a new standard for SIM cards when the iPhone 5 rolls out if what you see above is true – could it be the nano-SIM tray of the iPhone 5 be depicted here? Word on the street has it that European carriers are already starting to place orders of large – and that would mean huge volumes, of nano-SIM cards in order to prepare for the imminent iPhone 5 launch.

Not only that, the iPhone 5′s alleged home button was also spotted online, sporting a similar design, although it will be smaller in size which will most probably be part of the ploy to pave some space for the purported larger display found on the next generation iPhone. What do you think of the new iPhone 5 and its rumored specifications to date – will it be a hot seller like its predecessors?

Microsoft hints at new Xbox?

It goes without saying that there is going to be a next generation Xbox from Microsoft, and I suppose they are not going to rest on the Xbox 360′s laurels in any way. We have seen job listings that do point towards the possibility of a successor to the Xbox 360, in addition to some patents. The thing is, there has never been an official confirmation or announcement concerning a next generation console, not until today at least. An interview with The Verge saw Microsoft Windows Live General Manager Brian Hall make a reference to “The New Xbox” as part of a list of new products which are on its way to the mass market from Microsoft, where among them will include the new Outlook for your email and organizing needs, a spanking new Windows Phone handset, and what else, but a new version of Microsoft Office.

Hall mentioned, “We’ve had Hotmail and operated Hotmail for about 16 years. We obviously have Exchange, and Outlook, that people use at work. We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office, with the new Windows Phone and the new Xbox.”

However, it was later revealed that a Microsoft spokesperson issued a statement that mentioned they are not working on a new Xbox, but are focusing on just how the existing Xbox has “defied lifecycle conventions,” so could that mean that the “new Xbox” implied by Hall is actually just an update to the current one. What do you think?

Why the Next iPhone’s Tiny SIM Could Make a Big Difference [Apple]

The latest supposedly leaked iPhone 5 part is a tray for a nano-Sim card. We’re skeptical about the authenticity of the images from Nowhereelse.fr, but there’s plenty of reason to believe that Apple will use an even tinier SIM on its next-gen iPhone. Who cares? It turns out a little SIM could be a big deal. More »
