Nokia rumored to unveil Windows Phone 8 devices in September during Nokia World event

Nokia Lumia 800Given that Nokia has pretty much put all of their proverbial eggs into the Windows Phone basket, it is safe to assume that they are currently working on Windows Phone 8 devices, but when exactly can we see the fruits of their efforts? According to the folks at Bloomberg who quoted “a person with knowledge of the matter”, Nokia is set to unveil the company’s new Windows Phone 8 devices in September during the Nokia World event which is taking place on the 5th of September. We guess the choice of location and time isn’t really surprising, and assuming the source is to be believed, the devices unveiled at Nokia World are also expected to go on sale towards the end of the year before the holiday shopping season. No word on what sort of devices we can expect, but here’s hoping that we’ll be in for a treat. Until then, be sure to stay tuned and check back with us regularly as we keep you updated on the situation!

Mini dock connector adapter spotted in Apple’s online store, according to video [Rumor]

Last week we reported on the rumor that instead of the next-gen iPhone sporting a smaller 19-pin dock connector, it would now instead feature an even smaller dock connector with 8-pins. Whether that is real remains to be seen although thanks to a recent video, it shows a user navigating to a page in Apple’s online store where a mini-dock to dock connector adapter was shown. Now it has been suggested in the past that if the mini-dock connectors were true, Apple was expected to offer a convertor which should help with the transition and offer continued support for third-party accessory makers (assuming it fits, of course). This is why an adapter isn’t exactly a stretch of the imagination. Of course it is more than likely that this video is a fake, but what do you guys think? We have been fooled by some pretty realistic renderings in the past, so if video was indeed a fake, we wouldn’t exactly be surprised either.

Apple rumored to be interested in acquiring The Fancy

One of the perks about owning an Amazon device, like the Kindle Fire, is that you get access to Amazon’s ecosystem which includes music, videos, an app store of their own and of course Amazon’s core competency, an e-commerce outlet where books, gadgets, toys, and etc. can be found. Now it looks like Apple wants in on the action too, according to a report by the Business Insider  who claims that Apple is currently in talks with Pinterest’s rival, The Fancy. For those wondering it is, it’s similar to Pinterest in which users can post things they find interesting, i.e. paintings, weird utensils, gadgets, accessories and the likes and will ultimately link users to the places where they can buy them from.

It is unclear as to what Apple will do with The Fancy, although it has been suggested that The Fancy’s services could be linked up with the PassBook feature that has been built into iOS 6. However since these are merely rumors for now, we suggest taking it with a grain of salt at least until a more official statement has been given. But what do you guys think? Would it be cool if Apple started offering its users the opportunity to purchase a larger variety of products that might not necessarily be tech-related?

Dell and HP rumored to be releasing a Windows RT tablet this October

Microsoft SurfaceA while back we reported that Dell had confirmed they were working on a Windows 8 tablet, although it was not specified as to which version of Windows 8 they would be working on. According to the rumors, Dell had supposedly taken HP’s spot for a Windows 8 tablet when HP decided to pull out from the running. However thanks to a new set of rumors, word has it that both HP and Dell have joined forces and are looking to push out a Windows RT tablet this October. The RT version of Windows will be running on ARM-based processors and according to the report, HP’s version will be using Texas Instruments’ chips while Dell will be turning to Qualcomm for their chips. This seems to go against previous rumors that suggested that Qualcomm had chosen HP to work with, but since these are merely rumors, we guess taking it with a grain of salt is the best course of action at this point. Either way the release date for both HP and Dell’s Windows RT tablets has been pegged for the 26th of October, so we guess we will have to wait and see if the rumors pan out.

iPhone 5 photo leak could be a red herring

The jury is still out on this one – the photos of an alleged iPhone 5 (or next generation iPhone, depending on just how you want to call it) that you see above could be true, or it could be false. All we know is this, a Japanese repair house uploaded images of what resembled the upcoming iPhone from Apple some time ago, and it did send everyone into an iPhone 5 search frenzy. Now, Neowin claimed to have received images from an anonymous source in Bangkok, Thailand, of the possible next generation iPhone. Nothing is confirmed yet of course, and the source of the photos did admit that this particular iPhone captured does not work at all, and is a “non functional replica prototype.” Can we say dummy unit? Do you think that this will be the basis for the next generation iPhone? It would be cool if we could take a closer look at the dock connector, hoping to see 8-pins or 19-pins in the process.

Microsoft downplays Metro design name, might face a lawsuit over all that street lingo

Microsoft Surface for Windows RT hands-on

If you’ve seen most of Microsoft’s design language for nearly three years, there’s only one word that sums it up: Metro. In spite of that urban look being the underpinning of Windows Phone, Windows 8 and even the Zune HD, Microsoft now claims to ZDNet and others that it’s no longer fond of the Metro badge. Instead, it’s supposedly phasing out the name as part of a “transition from industry dialog to a broad consumer dialog” while it starts shipping related products — a funny statement for a company that’s been shipping some of those products for quite awhile. Digging a little deeper, there’s murmurs that the shift might not be voluntary. Both Ars Technica and The Verge hear from unverified sources that German retailer Metro AG might waving its legal guns and forcing Microsoft to quiet down over a potential (if questionable) trademark dispute. Metro AG itself won’t comment other than to say that these are “market rumors,” which doesn’t exactly calm any frayed nerves over in Redmond. Should there be any truth to the story, we hope Microsoft chooses an equally catchy name for those tiles later on; Windows Street Sign Interface Windows 8-style UI just wouldn’t have the same ring to it.
