Apple reportedly planning new iPod touch and nanos for September

If you thought that maybe the design on Apple’s iPod touch and nano are getting a bit old and could do with a refresh, it seems that you might not have to wait too long for that to happen. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he has recently released a new report suggesting that Apple could be releasing all new iPod touch and nano devices this September. So far both devices have yet to receive substantial upgrades, with the iPod touch receiving a new color (white) last year and seeing its entry level price drop, both devices have remained pretty much the same which in the tech world where things are evolving at a fast pace, might be considered to be “old”. September is also when Apple is expected to announce and launch the next-gen iPhone, so perhaps there is a chance that both the iPod touch and iPod nano could be announced alongside it. Kuo has been pretty accurate with his predictions in the past, but since the future is uncertain and is subject to change, we suggest you not get your hopes up just yet, and be sure to check back with us at a later date for the follow-up.

Amazon to release six new Kindle Fire tablets?

According to a statement by Staples’ president, Demos Parneros, Amazon has plans to introduce as many as six new Kindle Fire tablets. While some of you might be wondering – that’s a silly idea, and why would Amazon need six different variants of the new Kindle Fire? It probably doesn’t mean that there will be six radically different tablets – maybe we’ll have WiFi-only/3G variants, different sized displays (7″/10″) and of course different sizes for internal storage (16GB/32GB) etc.

The new Kindle Fire is rumored to make an appearance sometime this year, but so far we haven’t got any confirmed details – just a lot of rumors and speculation. However, we’ll keep you posted as more details leak. How many of you are looking forward to the next Kindle Fire? Or are you planning to pick up the super hot-selling Nexus 7 tablet instead?

More evidence that Samsung will unveil Galaxy Note 2 this coming August 15

All roads lead to this year’s IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany. As you know, Samsung has already sent out invitations in the form of save-the-date emails for an event this coming August 15. And if the rumor mill is right, the next generation Galaxy Note could be unveiled during the event as well, albeit we’re still ambivalent about it. We already have a tad of rumored details surrounding the device’s specifications, including a 5.5-inch display with a purported 1280 × 720 resolution and an Exynos 4412 quad-core processor with Mali-400 graphics.

According to a source close to Samsung, BGR is saying that the South Korean tech giant will indeed unveil the Galaxy Note 2 this coming August 15. The publication also added that the rumored 5.5-inch display will be the actual display size of the “phablet” successor. Last month, GSMArena also confirmed the existence of the Galaxy Note 2, saying that it will sport a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a design that is inspired by the Galaxy S3.

Quake 5 speculated to be unveiled at Quake Con in August

If you grew up playing FPS games like Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, Doom and the likes, then the name Quake is probably one familiar to you. Things have been relatively quiet on the Quake front, especially since Quake 4 was launched about 7 years ago, leaving many to wonder about the fate of its successor. Well thanks to a tweet by Evolve PR, a revival of a “beloved classic PC shooter” is expected to be announced at Quake Con this year. While they did not state explicitly what the announcement would be, given that it is Quake Con after all, and with a 7 year gap after Quake 4, many are speculating that this could be none other than Quake 5. There are of course a myriad of possibilities, and the phrase “revival” might suggest that it might be a reboot of a game instead of a new one. Either way with Quake Con taking place on the 2nd of August, we guess we don’t have long to wait until all is revealed, so be sure to check back with us then for the details!

Pegatron rumored to have begun production on Apple’s next-gen iPhone

iPhone 5Not too long ago, it was reported that production on the next-gen iPhone had already begun,  and it looks like those claims are now being backed up by a report from DigiTimes, who are saying that Apple’s manufacturing partner, Pegatron, has reportedly begun production on the next-gen iPhone. Of course for those who have followed tech news and rumors, DigiTimes isn’t exactly the most accurate source to date, but they have been proven right in the past which is why we suggest taking this piece of info with a grain of salt. Then again, assuming Apple is keeping to their scheduled release of the iPhone this year, we guess it’s not really a stretch of the imagination to think that production of the handset might have already begun. Either way be sure to check back with us for more news and updates on the iPhone 5!

More reports of a 19-pin dock connector for Apple’s next-gen iPhone surfaces

iphone_4s and 5Back in February this year, there were rumors that suggested that Apple could be making the dock connector of their next iPhone smaller than the current one. This was further cemented by a job listing that indicated that a redesign of the dock connector could be in the works, although there was nothing to say if it would be making an appearance in the next iPhone or if it would be used for future models. Thanks to recently surfaced photos of alleged housings for the next-gen iPhone, the smaller dock connector rumor seemed to gain more traction and now thanks to the folks at Reuters, it seems that they too think that the next-gen iPhone will feature a smaller 19-pin dock connector as opposed to the 30-pin version. Verizon’s CFO might have hinted at a Q4 iPhone 5 launch

Assuming Apple keeps to the same schedule as they did back in 2011 when they launched the iPhone 4S, it is safe to assume that the next-gen iPhone will be launched around the same time this year. As usual Apple has kept mum on these sorts of things but thanks to Verizon’s CFO, he may have hinted at a release in Q4 later this year. This was revealed during Verizon’s conference call discussing its Q2 2012 financial performance and when asked what might have held some customers back from upgrading their devices, he was quoted as saying, “of course there’s always that, uh, rumor mill out there with a new phone coming out there in the fourth quarter, so people may be waiting.”

There is a slight chance that he might be referring to the next-gen Android handset which assuming they’re keeping to schedule, could also be seeing a Q4 release but then again, the rumor mill has been churning out more iPhone rumors than Nexus rumors as of late, so it would be safe to assume that he was referring to the iPhone. It should be noted that this is hardly a confirmation, but it’s good to know that Verizon’s CFO seems to think that a Q4 launch does seem likely.
