Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit Rumored For MWC Launch

Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit Rumored For MWC LaunchIf the rumors are to be believed, Samsung could announce a new Galaxy Gear 2 alongside the Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014 at their Unpacked 5 event. We have also heard how Samsung could have multiple Galaxy Gear models apart from just the Galaxy Gear 2, and now according to a new rumor from the Korean media, it has been suggested that at least one of the Galaxy Gear variants will be called the Galaxy Gear Fit. Based on its name alone, we can tell that it is going to be some kind of fitness-related accessory. However with the Galaxy Gear already sporting some fitness features, what would make the rumored Galaxy Gear Fit any different?

Well for starters, it seems that the device will be more of a fitness band that would compete against the likes of Fitbit, Jawbone, and the Nike FuelBand. The device will allow users to track physical activity such as steps, distance run, and so on, and will reportedly also be able to monitor the user’s sleep. The rumors also claim that Samsung will be losing the integrated camera which could ultimately help to keep the price down. It sounds like a good idea and we guess it can’t hurt to have more fitness band alternatives in the market. Either way do check back with us on the 24th of February for all the details. In the meantime would any of you guys be interested in a Samsung fitness band?

Microsoft Interested In Purchasing A Stake In DailyMotion [Rumor]

Microsoft Interested In Purchasing A Stake In DailyMotion [Rumor]Back in 2006, Google announced that they had acquired YouTube for a little over a billion dollars. Given YouTube’s popularity, safe to say that Google has pretty much the monopoly when it comes to online video watching. Of course there are alternatives such as DailyMotion and Vimeo, and if the rumors are to be believed, it seems that Microsoft could be interested in purchasing some stake in DailyMotion. In fact it was back in 2013 that we had heard the rumors that Yahoo themselves had purchased a 75% stake in DailyMotion, so we have no wonder how much of a stake Microsoft will be able to get.

This is according to the folks at Reuters who then cited a report from Le Journal du Dimanche in France who revealed that Orange, DailyMotion’s owner, is in talks with Microsoft over a potential stake in the company. This is actually accurate to a certain degree because Orange’s CEO, Stephane Richard, did state that the company was close to signing a partnership in the US, although he did not state which company DailyMotion would be signing a deal with. However his suggestions that it was a “major player” in the digital economy, some have speculated that he could be talking about Microsoft. Given Google’s dominance with YouTube, it is not surprising to think that Microsoft would want a stake in the digital video market as well.

Galaxy S5 Could Come In A Gold Option [Rumor]

Galaxy S5 Could Come In A Gold Option [Rumor]Gold is somewhat an ostentatious color when it comes to electronic gadgets. After all its too bright, gaudy, and very loud, but little did we know that Apple would such a huge success with its gold iPhone 5s. That being said, it seems that not only does HTC want to replicate that success with a gold HTC M8, but possibly Samsung as well, thanks to an alleged leaked screenshot from Vodafone’s internal systems which reveals a gold colored Samsung Galaxy S5. Along with the listing for a gold Galaxy S5, the listing also reveals and thus “confirms” the gold HTC M8, as well as the gold iPhone 5s.

So what does this mean for customers? Does it mean that we can look forward to a gold Galaxy S5 right off the bat? In the past we have seen how companies such as Samsung has slowly allowed different color variants of its phones to be released, perhaps every few months or so. However with Vodafone listing the gold model so early, perhaps Samsung might be deploying a different strategy this time. Will HTC and Samsung be able to replicate Apple’s success with the gold iPhone? After all the phone was a hit in China where gold is culturally and symbolically looked upon in a good way, and while gold is naturally a sign of wealth, perhaps its importance will vary from market to market. Would you like a gold Samsung Galaxy S5?

Google Reportedly Offered WhatsApp More Than $19bn In Last-Ditch Effort

Google Reportedly Offered WhatsApp More Than $19bn In Last Ditch EffortWe guess everyone has heard by now that Facebook will be acquiring WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app, for a cool $19 billion. However it seems that Facebook was not alone in their bid for WhatsApp as our previous report had also suggested that Google expressed their interest as well. However it seems that Google’s offer of $10 billion without a seat on the board was not enough for WhatsApp to sell themselves to the company, which led to them selling to Facebook instead. However according to a report from The Information, it seems that Google had made a last-ditch attempt to acquire WhatsApp and was even willing to pay more than $19 billion.

The report goes on to state that Google’s Larry Page was also willing to allow WhatsApp to remain as an independent company, while at the same time providing them access to Google’s resources. This would mean that WhatsApp would not only have the money, but would also be able to compete with Facebook with regards to photo and video sharing, as well as instant messaging. Unfortunately despite the tempting offer, it seems that WhatsApp executives felt that Facebook’s vision was more aligned with theirs compared to Google. In fact it seems that it was also rumored that Google offered WhatsApp millions just to be notified if the company were to enter acquisition talks with another company, possibly so that Google could outbid them instead. Of course none of this can be confirmed, but what do you guys think?

HTC’s Smartwatch Will Reportedly Be Shown Off To Carriers At MWC 2014

HTCs Smartwatch Will Reportedly Be Shown Off To Carriers At MWC 2014With MWC 2014 taking place next week, we’re sure many of you guys are looking forward to learning more about HTC’s upcoming smartphone, the HTC M8. However it also seems that HTC might have something else that they’re planning to show, which is their reported smartwatch whose battery life was apparently solved. Unfortunately if you were hoping that HTC would take to the stage to make their announcement of said device, you would be disappointed as Bloomberg’s sources have claimed that the smartwatch will instead only be shown off to carriers, presumably behind closed doors in a private meeting/event.

Interestingly enough HTC’s smartwatch is expected to be based off the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch which was shown off last year at IFA 2013. What this means is that if HTC were to match the reference design component for component, what we can look forward to is a Mirasol touchscreen display, wireless charging capabilities, the ability to take calls, play music, display calendar information, and text messaging support (read-only). However apart from this reported smartwatch that will be based on the Toq, Bloomberg’s sources also claim that HTC is working on other wearable devices, like another smartwatch with Google Now features, and a smart wristband with a thin touchscreen display.

BlackBerry Windermere Could Feature Gesture-based Keyboard [Rumor]

BlackBerry Windermere Could Feature Gesture based Keyboard [Rumor]Remember the alleged BlackBerry prototype that was leaked earlier? It was suggested that the phone might be a developer handset or perhaps even an early prototype of the BlackBerry Q10, but now according to a report from BGR, they claim that the handset is actually a prototype of a BlackBerry phone that is reportedly still in the works which has been given the codename, Windermere. Now based on the earlier leaked photos, the device certainly looks a bit odd and if we didn’t know better, it almost looks like a photoshop job where someone decided to squash the keyboard section of the phone.
