Basis Science Reportedly Looking To Sell Themselves To Tech Companies

Basis Science Reportedly Looking To Sell Themselves To Tech CompaniesOne of the features of smartwatches, apart from being able to tell the time and receive notifications, is usually the inclusion of health-related features. What this means that certain smartwatches will be able to track certain parts of your workout, like the distance you have run, the speed at which you have ran, calories burnt, heart rate, and so on. According to the rumors, Apple’s rumored iWatch is said to be packed full of health-related features, which is why a recent report from TechCrunch on how Apple might be interested in acquiring a fitness smartwatch company might not be such a stretch of the imagination.

The company in question is called Basis Science, who has been responsible for the creation of the Basis Health Tracker Watch. According to TechCrunch, the company is apparently actively looking for buyers for its health tracking smartwatch business over the past few weeks, and Apple has been named as one of the companies that might be interested in them. Apple is apparently not alone in expressing their interest as reportedly companies such as Google could be interested as well. With rumors that Google could be looking to launch a smartwatch of their own as well, their interest in the company is also somewhat believable. Apart from Apple and Google, the rumors claim that Samsung and Microsoft could be interested as well. Take these rumors with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for additional details.

Additional Canon EOS 7D MK II Specs Revealed [Rumor]

Additional Canon EOS 7D MK II Specs Revealed [Rumor]The Canon EOS 7D MK II has yet to be announced, although if the rumors are to be believed, it seems that we can look forward to an announcement this year. In fact the latest rumor had us believing that CP+ could be the platform in which Canon unveiled the camera, but unfortunately CP+ has come and gone with no announcement of the device. In any case while we are waiting on an official announcement from Canon, additional specifications of the camera have surfaced, thanks to a media presentation for the Panasonic Lumix GH4 in which the camera was compared against other models from different manufacturers.

As you can see in the screenshot above, one of the compared models was that of the Canon EOS 7D successor, which is widely believed to be the EOS 7D MK II. There’s no telling if these specs are the official ones, so try not to read too much into it for now. According to the list of specs, the EOS 7D MK II will feature a 20MP sensor, an ISO range of 100-12,800 (25,6000 extended), shutter speed of 1/8000, quiet shutter mode, phase detect AF, 8fps continuous shooting, a 3-inch LCD touchscreen display, and just like the EOS 7D, the camera will be weather sealed as well. In any case we’re not sure when Canon’s next announcement will be, but we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.

iPad Pro Rumored For 2015 Release, iPad Mini Might Be Discontinued

iPad Pro Rumored For 2015 Release, iPad Mini Might Be DiscontinuedWe have been hearing rumors that Apple could be working on a larger iPad which could sport a 12.9-inch display called the iPad Pro. Rumors being rumors, it’s hard to tell if the tablet will ever see the light of day or if it even exists at all. In the meantime if you were looking forward to seeing it in 2014, you might be disappointed to learn that the tablet might not be launching this year after all. Instead the rumored iPad Pro could see a release in 2015. This is according to KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has in the past been relatively accurate with his predictions of Apple’s plans.

According to Kuo, he believes that Apple will only release an updated version of the iPad Air later this year. The Cupertino company will instead shift its resources from its Retina iPad Mini towards creating the iPad Pro. His research notes state, “All told, we think chances of the debut of a new iPad mini in 2H14 are slim. In addition, the 12.9” iPad is unlikely to be offered in 2014. For these reasons, we predict the only new iPad product in 2H14 will be the upgraded iPad Air.” The iPad mini is a smaller version of the iPad that has been well-received by those who prefer a smaller tablet that runs iOS. In fact it does not seem to warrant discontinuation but if Kuo’s predictions are on the money, that would seem to be the case. In the meantime what do you guys think? Will you be disappointed if the iPad Mini were to be discontinued?

T9 Keyboard Could Arrive In Windows Phone 8.1

T9 Keyboard Could Arrive In Windows Phone 8.1If you have ever used a feature phone, chances are you are familiar with the T9 keyboard layout (pictured above). Smartphones these days now provide full QWERTY keyboards and the way phones have been designed, the need for T9 keyboards has pretty much been done away with, save for feature phones which still relies on the feature. That being said, could a T9 keyboard be making its way back into Windows Phone? Well according to the MUI files extracted from the Windows Phone 8.1 emulator by Windows Phone Lover, the answer is yes, it would seem that there is evidence that T9 keyboards could be making an appearance in Windows Phone 8.1.

We’re not sure why would Microsoft include such a keyboard given that a lot of people have gotten used to QWERTY already, but perhaps this is an option targeting those who are using smartphones for the first time, like those in emerging markets whom Microsoft will probably want ot target with low-end devices, so by having a T9 keyboard, it will give these customers something familiar to work with. Of course it could be fun to use it anyway as it is a hark back to the good old days, but what do you guys think? Yay for the T9’s return?

Another Alleged Galaxy S5 Render Spotted

Another Alleged Galaxy S5 Render SpottedA few days ago, an alleged render of the Samsung Galaxy S5 made its way online. There is no telling if the render was real or a fake, but it did offer us an insight as to what we might be able to expect from Samsung. Now thanks to a new render posted by Move Player, another render of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has popped up online, this time showing a more “complete” look and comparing it alongside the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy S4. Given that Move Player has been pretty reliable in the past when it comes to leaks and rumors, there’s always the off-chance that this could simply be a fan-made rendering rather than the real deal, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.

However assuming this is the real deal, it looks like Samsung will be making the Galaxy S5 more square-ish compared to its predecessors. Samsung had initially taken the sharp-edged design with the Galaxy S2, but with the Galaxy S3, Samsung had decided to go for a more curved look which was slowly sharpened with the Galaxy S4, and with the Galaxy S5, it seems that Samsung could be returning to its Galaxy S2 roots with the design. The rendering looks pretty sleek, we’ll have to admit, and based on what we can see, it also appears to be thinner than its predecessor, which once again is hardly a surprise. Like we said there’s no telling if this render is the real deal, but if it were, what do you guys make of the design?

Microsoft Hints At Integrated OS On Mobile DevicesMicrosoft might own Nokia at the moment, but this does not mean that the software giant is going to stop there when it comes to churning out mobile devices. Sure, they also have their range of Surface tablets to boot, but it seems that the Redmond-based company might be working to deliver a bunch of new mobile devices which will run on an integrated operating system, at least according to several sources online.

Huawei Ascend D3 Rumored For MWC 2014 Launch

Huawei Ascend D3 Rumored For MWC 2014 LaunchBack in 2013, Huawei unveiled the Ascend D2 which was the company’s flagship device at that time, which has us wondering if Huawei might announce its successor, the Ascend D3 this year? Perhaps at MWC 2014? Well according to the latest rumors, the answer is yes, Huawei could be set to debut the Ascend D3 at MWC 2014 which will be taking place towards the end of the month, but given that this is a rumor, you should probably try not to get your hopes up. However as we will be live at the event ourselves, do check back with us then to see if there are any Huawei-related news to be had.

So what can one expect from the Ascend D3? If the rumors are to be believed, Huawei’s 2014 flagship smartphone could pack the company’s in-house produced Kirin 920 octa-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, although this is not a “true” octa-core per se, but will be based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture that is similarly used in Samsung’s Exynos 5 series of octa-core chipsets as well. Aside from the possible octa-core processor, other rumored features of the Huawei Ascend D3 include a 5-inch Full HD display, a 16MP rear-facing camera, and a metal back. As it stands there are other Huawei devices rumored for MWC 2014, such as the Ascend P7 and Huawei’s alleged smartwatch.

Apple Hires Another Biometrics Expert For Its iWatch

Apple Hires Another Biometrics Expert For Its iWatchWe’re sure many are curious as to what Apple’s iWatch could feature as Apple is a company many love to watch whether you love them or hate them. Many are also curious as to what the iWatch might pack under the hood to help distinguish it from the competition. After all having the same functionality as the Pebble or Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch will probably not do Apple any favors. That being said, in a report from NetworkWorld, it has been discovered that Apple might have recently hired the former CTO of Ceracor, Marcelo Malini Lamego as part of their R&D team. Based on Lamego’s specialties, many have speculated that his talents will go towards helping Apple with their iWatch.

Lamego is credited with over 70 patents and patent applications related to sensors and patient monitoring, however some believe that Lameog’s work on Rainbow, a non-invasive monitoring tool that can track several blood and physiological parameters at the same time, might be of interest to Apple. In the past, Apple has hired several health experts whom are believed to help contribute their expertise to the iWatch. Based on these hirings, it would seem that Apple’s iWatch is shaping up to be a somewhat complex medical/health device. A recent report, however, suggests that the iWatch might not be as complex as we think it is, and that Apple’s hiring of these experts are to ensure that readings provided by the iWatch are accurate. Make what you will of Apple’s latest hire but until we hear from Apple, all we can do is speculate.

64 Bit Octa Core BlackBerry Smartphone Release Rumored For September

BlackBerry’s hardware division hasn’t been able to produce a hit for quite some time. Even last year’s high-end devices didn’t quite have the specifications to match their rivals at least on paper. But BlackBerry is now much more different than it was last year. There’s a new CEO and an entirely new top level management, the company has been restructured into four core divisions and its low-end devices have been outsourced to Foxconn. BlackBerry will now only focus on high-end devices, of which only two are expected to debut this year. One of them is believed to pack a 64-bit octa-core processor.
