Facebook Paper Rumored To Be The Company’s Answer To Flipboard

Facebook Paper Rumored To Be The Companys Answer To FlipboardWe’re sure many mobile users are familiar with Flipboard, an app that basically acts like a magazine as it helps users curate news and stories that they might be interested in. Google attempted to compete with Google Currents, and now word on the street is that Facebook could be looking to launch something similar as well with a service called Facebook Paper. At this point in time it is unclear if Facebook intends for Paper to be a mobile app or a website, but basically the concept behind it, if the reports are to be believed, is meant to mimic how content would look like as if it were printed on paper back in the days when digital content was not available.

Naturally Facebook has declined to comment on the rumor, but the reports (via re/code) are claiming that Chris Cox, Facebook’s VP of Product, will be the one leading the company’s efforts, with the team behind the News Feed helping with the creation as well. Assuming this is true, it will be interesting to see if Facebook’s efforts at a magazine-like feature is because they tried to buy out Flipboard but failed. After all Facebook has shown in the past that if they can’t have you, they will try to copy you like what they’ve done with Snapchat. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Would this be a welcome alternative to receiving Facebook updates and news?

Sony “Sirius” Could Be Launched As The Xperia Z2

Sony Sirius Could Be Launched As The Xperia Z2Earlier at CES 2014, we saw a couple of new Sony handsets like the Xperia Z1s and the Xperia Z1 Compact, and while both phones were pretty interesting in their own way, neither were the company’s flagship device of 2014. Nope, that honor would be going to a certain rumored Sony “Sirius” handset which is rumored to make its debut at MWC 2014 instead, an event dedicated to mobile devices. Now according to the rumors, word has it that Sony could be launching the device as the Xperia Z2 which we guess would make sense given that the Xperia Z1 moniker has been taken, and the Z2 would signify that it is an upgrade over its predecessor.

While Sony has yet to officially confirm any of this, word on the street has it that the Sony Xperia Z2 could pack some pretty impressive hardware. This includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which is pretty standard these days in high-end smartphones, a 5.2” 2,560×1,440 QHD display which would allow it to compete with the likes of Samsung’s rumored 2K display as well for the Galaxy S5, 3GB of RAM, a whopping 20.7MP camera, and a sizeable 3,700mAh battery which would trump the Galaxy S5’s rumored 2,900mAh battery. It is also expected to feature the same water and dust protection that the original Xperia Z had. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully Sony will have more information to share at MWC 2014, if not before.

Nexus 7 To Make Its Way Onto Verizon [Rumor]

Nexus 7 To Make Its Way Onto Verizon [Rumor]If you’re looking to get your hands on a tablet, how does the Google Nexus 7 sound to you? The tablet is not only relatively affordable, but it also packs some pretty impressive specs making it a pretty good bargain for what you are paying for. Now the good news is that if you were hoping to pick it up from a carrier, either for 4G LTE purposes or hoping that it might be subsidized in some way, the ever reliable @evleaks has revealed that the Google Nexus 7 tablet will be making its way onto Verizon’s network in the very near future. No specific dates were mentioned but given the leak and the fact that the tablet has been around for a while, we can only assume it won’t be too long before we hear an official announcement of sorts.

@evleaks also claims that the Nexus 7 will be arriving on Verizon’s network without the carrier’s branding at all. This is great for those who’d rather not have a carrier’s logo splashed across the device, which to a certain extent affects its resale value as well. We’re not sure if this is because it is a Google device that Verizon chose/was not allowed to put their branding on it, but either way it’s good news for would-be customers. We’re not sure if Verizon will be offering any subsidies on the tablet, especially since tablet subsidies are pretty uncommon compared to smartphones, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more info so check back with us later for more updates!

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Sport Rapid Charging 2,900mAh Li-ion Battery

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Sport Rapid Charging 2,900mAh Li ion BatteryThe Samsung Galaxy S5 is probably one of the more highly anticipated smartphones to arrive in the market in 2014. Given that we’ve seen phones released ahead of the Galaxy S5 with pretty impressive specs, safe to say many are looking forward to seeing what the Galaxy S5 will pack under the hood. According to the rumors, the Galaxy S5 could see a release later this March and we had also previously heard about the “confirmed” specs of the handset, which includes a QHD display that’s about 5.25” in size, a 16MP rear-facing camera, and will pack either a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor or Samsung’s Exynos 6 chipset which will depend on the region.

Now thanks to the folks at Phone Arena, they claim to have been tipped off by their tipsters about some additional specs of the phone, namely its battery. Now we know batteries aren’t exactly the most exciting part of the phone, but if their tipsters are right, the Galaxy S5 could feature a slightly larger battery of the 2,900mAh variety, and on top of that, is claimed to be of the rapid charging type, meaning that it can charge the phone faster which has been estimated to be about 2 hours for a full charge! In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but the Galaxy S5 is definitely worth keeping an eye out for so be sure to check back with us at a later date for the details!

8GB iPhone 4 Reportedly Launching In India To Boost Sales

8GB iPhone 4 Reportedly Launching In India To Boost SalesThe iPhone 4 was released back in 2010 and despite it being overtaken by devices like the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s, the handset could be looking to make a comeback in India in the form of an 8GB model. According to a report from The Economic Times, they claim that Apple is expected to begin sales of an 8GB iPhone 4 in the near future in a bid to help gain more market share and address lagging sales in the country. Given that Apple’s products are typically viewed as a “premium” product, its price tag, especially in developing markets, are usually out of the reach of the majority. So for Apple to introduce a cheaper and more affordable iPhone, those looking to get on the iPhone bandwagon will be able to do so at a lower cost.

According to the report, the 8GB iPhone 4 will be priced at roughly $243 which is about $187 cheaper than what the phone cost back when it was launched. The price of $243 will be after buybacks and monthly instalment plans. However like we said, with Apple concentrating on their latest smartphones, who will supply Apple’s iPhone 4? Well the rumors claim that Apple could be sourcing unsold iPhone 4 units from vendors around the world, although this could prove to be a very huge undertaking. Naturally Apple has yet to announce anything but if the rumors are to be believed, sales could begin as soon as next week.

    Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs “Confirmed”

Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs “Confirmed”So what do we know about a possible Samsung Galaxy S5 at this point in time? Not too much actually, other than the fact that there were rumors of the next generation smartphone being rumored to roll out in London later this coming March. According to the good people over at SamMobile, they have picked up some information from an alleged “insider” that the Samsung Galaxy S5 should arrive with a quad HD display – which translates to a whopping 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, and in all probability, it should measure 5.25” in size. At the back of the Samsung Galaxy S5, it is also said to carry a 16-megapixel shooter with a very real chance of optical image stabilization being part of the deal.

Samsung Reportedly Showed Off 5.68″ Flexible Display At CES 2014

Samsung Reportedly Showed Off 5.68 Flexible Display At CES 2014The Samsung Galaxy Round and the LG G Flex are examples of some of the more dramatically curved displays we’ve seen to date, although they are hardly of the flexible material which Samsung showed off last year at CES called Youm. Now we’re sure many are wondering if and when devices with truly flexible displays will be released, and if the rumors are to be believed, perhaps 2015 could be when. This is according to industry sources who claim that Samsung showed off a 5.68” flexible display in secret during CES 2014, to a handful of analysts, VIPs, and potential clients.

Apparently Samsung’s technology was plenty impressive as those who attended the alleged secret presentation were amazed at how advanced Samsung’s display technology had gotten. One of the hurdles that the engineers had to overcome was how to prevent deterioration when the display had been folded and open a thousand times. Just like folding a piece of paper, eventually the middle becomes creased and weak and will tear easily after folding and reopening many times, but apparently Samsung has finally figured a way to go about preventing that from happening.

Now we’re not sure when we will see commercialization of this technology, but supposedly it is ready for mass production so there always be a small chance we might see the successor to the Galaxy Round this year, if not in next year’s models. In the meantime who else is excited about smartphones with flexible displays?

Canon EOS 7D MK II Rumored For CP+ Announcement

Canon EOS 7D MK II Rumored For CP+ AnnouncementWe have been hearing rumors that Canon could be looking to launch a successor to its Canon EOS 7D camera, and while the rumors have been floating about for a couple of years, we have yet to see anything from Canon just yet, but could 2014 finally be the time that Canon takes the wraps off the device? Perhaps. Or perhaps not, but if the latest rumors are to be believed, word on the street has it that canon will be announcing the camera at the CP+ show in Japan which is taking place a little before MWC 2014 and will run from the 13th of February until the 16th of February 2014. Given that CP+ is a camera/photography related event, we expect camera companies such as Canon might take the opportunity to announce something then.

Based on what we know about the EOS 7D MK II so far is that it could sport either a 20MP or a 24MP Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor as Canon has reportedly not finalized its specs yet (at that time). It could also feature an AF system similar to that of the EOS 5D MK III with 61-points, along with a shooting speed of 10-12fps. It is also rumored to sport a weather-sealed body, a Dual DIGIC V+ processor, and GPS connectivity, all of which will be priced around $2,000. Admittedly this isn’t much to go on at the moment, but hopefully more details will emerge as we get closer to CP+ 2014, so be sure to check back with us then for the details, until then do take it with a grain of salt.
