Yahoo Wants To Become iOS’ Default Search

Yahoo Wants To Become iOS Default SearchWhen it comes to performing search on the iPhone or iOS products, Google is usually set as the default search engine. We’re sure if Apple had their own search engine, they’d probably use it, but given that Google is one of the bigger names at the moment, it is understandable why they chose them over competitors like Yahoo.

Yahoo’s presence in iOS devices is pretty much limited to the native Weather and Stocks apps, but apparently Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer is working on two internal projects that will apparently attempt to convince Apple to make the default search Yahoo and not Google.

This is according to a report from Re/code who states that Mayer is preparing detailed presentations to Apple’s executives to show them what their new mobile search product could look like. We’re not sure what Yahoo could do to convince Apple to change the default search on Safari to Yahoo, but it has supposedly managed to attract the attention of Apple’s SVP of design, Jony Ive.

Like we said earlier, Yahoo’s presence on iOS is somewhat limited. This is compared to Google which is Safari’s default search, and Microsoft’s Bing search engine which is used to help power web searches used by Apple’s voice assistant feature, Siri. Re/code states that the deal between Apple and Yahoo has yet to be finalized.

In fact Apple has yet to be pitched on the idea, but it’s definitely something that Yahoo is working towards. In the meantime how do you guys feel about the idea? Would you like to see Yahoo become your iPhone’s default search?

Alleged iPhone Case “Confirms” Repositioned Buttons

Alleged iPhone Case Confirms Repositioned ButtonsOne of the ways case manufacturers can get a jump on the competition is if they’re willing to begin producing cases for phones that haven’t been released yet. This means that the dimensions aren’t official but they are still willing to take the risk if it means that they will be the first on the market to offer up cases and accessories for a brand new device.

Now thanks to a recent photo by Nowhereelse.fr, a photo of an alleged iPhone 6 case has surfaced and based on the photos, it looks like the rumors could be right when they suggested that the iPhone 6 could see its power/sleep button repositioned. As we can see in the image above, everywhere else appears to be the same.

The volume rocker and mute switch is still placed on the left of the phone, the camera cutout is still in the same time, but interestingly enough to the right of the phone there appears to be a button which we can only presume is meant for the power/sleep button as the top right hand corner is missing any cutouts or buttons.

This photo also seems to be in line with an earlier leaked photo of yet another iPhone case which showed the repositioned button. Of course it is entirely possible that whoever made these cases are basing their designs on the rumors and alleged specifications of the phone, especially since we doubt Apple would be sharing their plans with accessory makers this early in.

We’re not sure why Apple would be moving the power/sleep button but perhaps they have rearranged the internals to accommodate the larger design, who knows, but in any case it seems that the rumors are here to stay for now, so hopefully additional information will surface later that will confirm what we’ve been seeing.

HTC One M8′s Dual-Lens Setup Draws Interest From Huawei And Lenovo [Rumor]

HTC One M8s Dual Lens Setup Draws Interest From Huawei And Lenovo [Rumor]It wasn’t too long ago that HTC officially released the HTC One M8 and one of the device’s more unique selling points, apart from its aluminum build and BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers, is the fact that it comes with an Ultrapixel sensor and a dual-lens setup. For those unfamiliar, this setup allows users to edit the focus of their photos even after snapping them, much like the Lytro camera.

However while the feature is pretty novel and interesting, our review found that the camera’s images weren’t exactly up to scratch when blown up. Perhaps on a smaller screen and for web use it’s great, but if you wanted to print them or perhaps use it as a wallpaper, that’s when some of the flaws of the camera can be seen. (more…)

WP 8.1 GDR2 Update Could Support 2K Displays And Snapdragon 805 [Rumor]

WP 8.1 GDR2 Update Could Support 2K Displays And Snapdragon 805 [Rumor]Just the other day, Microsoft officially released the preview version of Windows Phone 8.1. This update is primarily targeted at developers as the final version of the build has yet to make its way to the handsets of end users. That being said, we also reported that despite Windows Phone 8.1 having yet to be released, word has it that Microsoft could be planning at least two more GDR updates that will see a release this year, with the third expected to be released in 2015.

So with Windows Phone 8.1 packing a fair amount of new features, such as the Cortana voice assistant feature, what other features will Microsoft bring to the table with future GDR updates? Well according to Nokia Power User, their sources have revealed to them some of the features that could be present in the GDR2 update.

One of the rumored features is support for 2K displays. As it stands Microsoft currently supports displays up to Full HD and with Android devices from Oppo, Vivo, and LG to sport 2K displays, we guess Microsoft thinks that they should probably catch up before it becomes too late. New resolutions support in Windows Phone 8.1 include 960×540 and 854×480.

The rumor also suggests that there will be support for Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipsets as well, meaning that Windows Phone users can probably look forward to even more powerful Windows Phone devices. There’s no way of knowing if any of this is real, but earlier leaked benchmarks have pointed to devices with 2K displays and Snapdragon 805 processor, so perhaps there’s some truth to them, but what do you guys think?

Are you looking forward to even more powerful Windows Phone handsets in the future, and do you think it will help encourage adoption of the platform by OEMs and consumers?

Alleged iPhone 6 Batteries Spotted On Production Tray

Alleged iPhone 6 Batteries Spotted On Production TrayThanks to a series of leaks and rumors, photos of iPhone-related components have surfaced. Recently we saw molds that are allegedly being used for the next-gen iPhone, a front panel, and now thanks to the folks at French website, Nowhereelse.fr, additional photos have surfaced, this time that of batteries that supposedly belong to the iPhone.

While there’s no way of confirming if the photo is real and if the batteries do belong to the iPhone, their design is reminiscent of the batteries used in previous iPhones, so it is possible that these are indeed iPhone batteries. However it’s probably easy enough to fake such photos, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

However it should be noted that the design of these batteries are slightly different from its predecessors. This is namely due to the metallic section on the battery which now appears at the side, suggesting that the internals of the iPhone could have been rearranged, hinting at a new form factor which seems to be in line with the rumors.

The photos do not mention how big the batteries are in terms of capacity, but hopefully Apple has stepped up its battery size as battery life is one of the primary complaints that iPhone owners have about their phone, at least according to a research that Apple did with their customers.

It’s interesting that photos are being leaked this early in the year which would suggest that Apple is beginning to ramp up production of the next-gen iPhone (or iPhones) that would most likely see a launch in the later part of the year, assuming Apple keeps to their schedule of course. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now until we can get the official word from Apple.

LG G3 Rumored For June Announcement, July Release

LG G3 Rumored For June Announcement, July ReleaseAre you looking forward to the LG G3? After all it was only recently that thanks to a leaked photo and confirmation from LG, it has been revealed that the phone will sport a 2560×1440 2K display. This would pretty much make LG the first mainstream smartphone vendor to offer such a device in the market, assuming of course Samsung does not beat them to the punch.

So now that the display of the phone has been confirmed, we know that the device is very real, but when will it launch? Well according to ZDNet Korea, their sources have suggested that the phone could see a launch in the later part of June which could also see the release of the handset in the early part of July.

This seems to go against earlier rumors that pointed at an August release, but apparently this was pushed forward thanks to Samsung’s early release of the Galaxy S5, not to mention LG would have to compete against Apple’s rumored dual iPhones in September, so a release in July would give them time to gain more market share and sell more phones.

In terms of specs, the leaked photo also seemed to confirm that the handset will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, mainly thanks to the use of the Adreno 330 GPU. It is also unclear as to how big the phone’s display will be, but the photo showed off a density of 640 DPI which is apparently wrong, but previous rumors have suggested anywhere between 5.2-inches to 5.5-inches.

In any case we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, so do check back with us at a later date for more details!

Alleged iPhone 6 Front Panel Photo Surfaces

Alleged iPhone 6 Front Panel Photo SurfacesWe have been seeing and hearing a fair amount of iPhone related rumors lately. According to a post from yesterday, photos of an alleged mold used for the iPhone was photographed and according to speculation, it has been suggested that the mold could be used for the 4.7-inch iPhone model that we have been hearing about.

Now thanks to a recent post on Weibo, a new photo has surfaced, this time claiming to be the front panel of the next-gen iPhone. As we can see in the photo, a black iPhone 5s is pictured next to front panel, so as to compare the difference in sizes. As we can all see, it is obvious that the panel to the right is significantly larger, although we’re not sure if this is a 4.7-inch model or the rumored 5.5-inch model. (more…)

More Alleged iPhone 6 Molds Surface, Hints At 4.7-inch Display

More Alleged iPhone 6 Molds Surface, Hints At 4.7 inch DisplayJust yesterday thanks to recently leaked photos, we caught a glimpse of certain production tools and schematics that are reportedly for the iPhone 6. Well thanks to a recent photo posted by French website, Nowhereelse.fr, another photo of the mold for the iPhone 6 has made an appearance, this time with a comparison photo of the iPhone 4/4S beside it to give it some perspectively.

The website went ahead and even photoshopped the front display panel of the iPhone 5s onto the mold itself and found that based on their calculations and estimations, the mold could potentially be used to product iPhones that would sport a display size of 4.7-inches, thus corroborating the rumor.

However the website does point out that the mold is recessed and that they found that if the recessed portion of the mold is to be used, it apparently lines up perfectly with the dimensions of the iPhone 5/5s, so there is a chance that this isn’t the iPhone 6, but one used for the iPhone 5/5s.

They also note that there are holds at the bottom of the mold which apparently could be used to attach something else to it that would allow the wider part of the mold to be used which in turn would have resulted in a 4.7-inch iPhone. It all sounds very speculative so take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully additional details will surface at a later date that will either corroborate or debunk the rumors.
