Dedicated Black And White Camera Rumored To Be In Development By Sony

Dedicated Black And White Camera Rumored To Be In Development By SonyBlack and white photography is still popular amongst photographers, and while it might be easy to slap on a black and white filter on your photograph, there is a skill and subtlety to it that not everyone can grasp or understand, with Ansel Adams probably being one of the more prolific black and white photographers of our time. That being said, back in the day there was film dedicated to black and white photography, compared to now where our digital cameras are able to snap such photos with a few change in settings, but it seems that Sony could be interested in launching a dedicated black and white full frame camera in the future.

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, the company is reportedly working on bringing such a device to the market within a year and will supposedly compete with the likes of the Leica Monochrom which costs a whopping $8,000. This camera will be utilizing a new black and white sensor developed by Sony which supposedly offers greater sharpness, cleaner higher ISO results, and an increased dynamic range which should help black and white photos “pop” a bit more. However given that this camera will only capture photos in black and white, it’s safe to say that it will most likely appeal to a very niche group of photographers, and even then it might be relegated to a secondary camera as opposed to a primary one. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of Sony developing such a camera?

NTT DOCOMO “Confirms” Tizen Device Availability In March

NTT DOCOMO Confirms Tizen Device Availability In MarchAccording to Samsung, they believe Tizen is a “simple alternative” to Android. Odd choice of words given that Samsung’s success can largely be attributed to Google’s Android operating system, but we guess due to reports of Samsung looking to reduce their reliance on Google’s Android platform for the future, the South Korean tech giant will be looking to launch Tizen-based devices in the future to help offer an alternative.

Based on the rumors, Samsung’s first Tizen smartphones are expected to debut this February, and according to a new report from a Japanese magazine, Mainichi, Japanese carrier NTT DOCOMO has reportedly confirmed that Samsung’s Tizen devices will be available in March, presumably following their announcement in February. Pegatron Reportedly Responsible For Half Of iPhone 6′s Assembly

Pegatron Reportedly Responsible For Half Of iPhone 6s AssemblyFor the most part, Apple’s lineup of iPhones has typically been assembled by Foxconn, but according to a new report from Taiwan’s Liberty Times, half of Apple’s assembly of the device will be given to Pegatron to do. The report did not state who the other half will be, but chances are that it will be Foxconn. As it stands, Pegatron is responsible for devices like the iPad mini and the iPhone 5c while Foxconn is responsible for devices like the iPhone 5s. Foxconn has typically been Apple’s main go-to guy when it comes to assembly of their products, but recently in a bid to reduce reliance on a single company as well as to reduce supply-chain risk, Apple has turned to other companies to help them with their products.

In fact Apple’s reliance on Pegatron is only expected to grow with reports that Pegatron will be opening up a new plant in China to help keep up with demand. It’s odd that the report only mentions one device, the iPhone 6, because if the previous rumors have any credibility to them, Apple is said to launch two phones: one of the 4.7-inch variety, and one of the 5.7-inch variety. Our report on an earlier rumor also suggested that instead of going the 16MP camera route which most companies are expected to take in 2014, Apple will instead retain its 8MP camera but will introduce improved camera functions, such as optical image stabilization. That’s not such a bad thing as we have said before since higher megapixels do not necessarily translate into better photos.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but here’s hoping we will find out more in the coming weeks/months.

Sony Rumored To Announce New A And E-Mount Cameras In The Coming Weeks

Sony Rumored To Announce New A And E Mount Cameras In The Coming WeeksWhile Sony did show off some new products at CES 2014, their camera lineup seemed aimed more towards the hobbyist and the videographer, as opposed to the more professional photographer who might be look for more “serious” gear. Well fret not because according to a report from Sony Alpha Rumors, they claim that they have been tipped off by a couple of their sources that Sony is expected to make more camera announcements in the upcoming weeks, three weeks to be exact, and that these announcements are related to A and E-mount devices, so if you’re not a fan of compact digital cameras and wanted more professional gear, then perhaps this announcement could be of interest to you.

Assuming the information is accurate (SAR has been pretty spot on as far as these tips goes), Sony could be announcing the NEX-7’s successor which is apparently going to be known as the A7000, which seems to corroborate what we have heard in terms of the rumors. Sony is also expected to announce the A79 and possibly a full-frame A-mount camera as well. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but with word that Sony has scheduled an event for the upcoming weeks, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see if Sony starts handing out invites for said event. In the meantime which device are you most looking forward to? Personally the successor to the NEX-7 would be most intriguing.

iPhone 6 Could Feature 8MP Camera Only

iPhone 6 Could Feature 8MP Camera Only The next generation iPhone will most probably continue to attract plenty of attention. After all, any upcoming iPhone models would set the grapevines alight with chatter, so we do not see this situation change should there be a whiff of the iPhone 6 in the air. Having said that, we have already heard some rumors about the iPhone 6 this week alone, and here is the latest bit of gossip concerning this next generation smartphone (which should be still some time off away, especially when you consider how the iPhone 5s was released not too long ago). Word has it (from China, and an anonymous source to boot) that Apple will continue to use an 8-megapixel sensor for its camera, albeit that there will be improvements in other departments.

While the number of megapixels that are available in a particular camera sensor is not all that important these days, some folks do place plenty of emphasis on it. While Apple will continue to fly the 8-megapixel flag high, it will now come with optical image stabilization (OIS) in addition to other unnamed improvements – at least according to the rumor, of course. What do you think if this were to be true – would it be a factor in your next smartphone purchase?

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Feature Metal And Plastic Body [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Feature Metal And Plastic Body [Rumor]We have been hearing a lot of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5, and if the rumors are to be believed, the handset could be announced very soon. Now one of the big changes supposedly making its way to the Galaxy S5 would be its choice of materials. In the past Samsung has used plastic to construct the body of the handset, and for the most part most people are fine with it, although lately many have been comparing Samsung’s phones to other devices like the HTC One, Sony Xperia Z, and the iPhone 5s in which more premium materials are used. This had led to rumors suggesting that the Galaxy S5 could sport a metal body, although to be fair we have heard rumors suggesting otherwise as well.

Well thanks to a new report from Korean publication, ETNews, it seems like we can expect a mix of materials in which Samsung will rely on body metal and plastic, as opposed to going full metal or full plastic. Based on the report, Samsung will introduce a metal battery cover, while other components of the phone will rely on plastic, which is done to help reduce the phone’s overall weight. There’s no telling how accurate this rumor is as it seems to pander towards those who are still leaning on the fence regarding the rumored materials, but then again it could also be true for all we know. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? How does the idea of a hybrid Samsung Galaxy S5 sound to you?

Alleged (But Possibly Fake) iPhone 6 Metal Band Surfaces In Photos

Alleged (But Possibly Fake) iPhone 6 Metal Band Surfaces In PhotosIs it a little too early to start discussing iPhone 6 rumors? Well we suppose not, and now thanks to a leaked photo making its rounds on the internet (courtesy of GizChina via C Technology), it seems that we might be looking at what they claim is the metal frame for Apple’s iPhone 6. Upon first glance it would seem that is the case as the frame does look bigger than the iPhone 5/5s which corroborates the rumors that Apple will be bumping the display size of the iPhone this year to possible phablet proportions. However upon taking a closer look, there are certain aspects of it that has us, and many other reputable publications, thinking that what we are looking at might be a fake.

For starters the metal band designed ceased to be used by Apple when they introduced the iPhone 5 where they relied on a unibody enclosure, allowing the overall design of the phone to be thinner, and to a certain extent it would be very un-Apple if they were to go ahead and make their next-gen iPhone thicker than before. Apple had also swapped the headphone jack from the top of the phone to the bottom part of the phone, placing it close to the Lighting port. The photo clearly shows the headphone jack positioned at the top next to either the ambient light sensor or the front-facing camera.

The reason the headphone jack has been positioned at the bottom is because it is more “natural”, not only for slipping and taking out of one’s pocket, but also because it lets the cable fall naturally and does not obscure the view of the user, as opposed to placing it at the top where the cable might fall across the screen. Those are some of the features that has many speculating that the photo isn’t real. So where did this component come from? Could it be an older prototype or could it have been completely fabricated? It’s hard to say but take it with a grain of salt for now.

Microsoft Surface 3, Surface Mini, Surface Laptop Rumors Surface

Microsoft Surface 3, Surface Mini, Surface Laptop Rumors SurfaceMicrosoft’s latest Surface series of tablets was launched back in 2013 and given that Microsoft has chosen (again) not to make an appearance at CES 2014, we’re sure many are wondering what they might be up to. Well thanks to a series of tweets by MSFTnerd, it seems that he has managed to release some details about future Surface tablets, which not only includes the Surface 3, but also a possible Surface mini, as well as talks about there being a Surface laptop. Starting with the Surface 3, MSFTnerd believes that Microsoft will be working with NVIDIA again and will sport NVIDIA’s latest chipset that they announced at CES 2014, the Tegra K1, and will be seeing a release towards the end of 2014.

Given that the second-gen Surface tablets were released towards the later part of 2013, we guess this timeframe does sound about right. MSFTnerd also revealed that we can look forward to a Surface Mini (a smaller 7.5-inch version of the Surface tablets) and LTE versions of the Surface 2 before the end of the year. Last but not least MSFTnerd revealed that Microsoft had put plans of a Surface notebook on hold for now. It is unclear what Microsoft would do with a Surface laptop since the Surface tablets in a way are almost like laptops, especially the Surface Pro 2. Perhaps it could be those reasons that Microsoft has put those plans on hold for now, but either way since none of this is official information from Microsoft, do take it with a grain of salt for now.

In the meantime which of these Surface-related products are you most looking forward to in 2014, rumor or not?
