Analyst Reaffirms Retina iPad Mini 2 Launch, But Will Not Come With Touch ID

Analyst Reaffirms Retina iPad Mini 2 Launch, But Will Not Come With Touch IDJust the other day it was reported that analyst Peter Misek reiterated his belief that Apple’s 22nd of October event would reveal a new Retina iPad mini 2, and how his belief is echoed by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. Given that both these analysts have some clout when it comes to predicting Apple’s next move, it would stand to reason that they might be right. Kuo however, has shared more details about his predictions, such as how the Gold finish and fingerprint sensors will not make their way into the new iPads. (more…)

Nikon Full-Frame Mirrorless Hybrid Rumored For Announcement Soon

Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless Hybrid Rumored For Announcement SoonLast week Sony announced their new Sony A7 and A7R and one of the more interesting and probably key aspects of both cameras is that not only were they mirrorless camera systems, but they were full-frame cameras as well, a feature that we’re sure is greatly appreciated by both the enthusiast and professional photographer. Given that most full-frame cameras come in bulky bodies, having a full-frame sensor crammed into such a compact design would most definitely be welcome. However it seems that Nikon might have something similar in the works and that device could be announced in the near future. (more…)

    Nexus 5 In White Debunked

Nexus 5 In White DebunkedDo you remember how we talked about the Nexus 5 which came in white earlier this morning? Well, it seems that the leaked photo of the device is apparently untrue, as it has been discovered to be nothing more than someone performing a wee bit of color manipulation from the render of the originally black Nexus 5. Of course, while this has happened, we should not close the door to the possibility of the folks over at Google from introducing an all white Nexus 5 when the time arrives, or who knows? It might even be a two-tone (white back and black front) smartphone as depicted in an earlier leak, just like what happened with its predecessor, the Nexus 4.

Apparently, there was a tip off that pointed to images which depicted the Nexus 5 press render in a variety of colors such as purple, orange, red, and silver. Android Police did have something to say about the situation, claiming that the pure white Nexus 5 is actually the black version with inverted colors on everything save for the camera lens and flash. Ah well, we can always hope, can’t we, for a company to actually introduce a color that consumers want in the long run? Would you want to see a white Nexus 5 hit the market?

Amazon France And Germany Hints At New Apple TVs

Amazon France And Germany Hints At New Apple TVsBack in September when Apple unveiled the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, many had expected Apple to take advantage of the event to announce a new Apple TV device as well. Unfortunately that was not the case, but perhaps the new Apple TVs could be announced at Apple’s 22nd of October event where it is expected that the iPad 5, iPad mini 2, and refreshed MacBook Pros could be announced as well. In any case this seems speculation seems to be corroborated by Amazon’s French and German websites where they list the current-gen Apple TV as being unavailable, and that availability is expected to begin from the 23rd of October, a day after Apple’s event which is when we expect Apple to make some of their products available for purchase.

Of course it is entirely possible that Amazon is currently out of stock of the Apple TV and are waiting for new shipments to arrive before sales are resumed, so it is possible that there might not be any new Apple TVs announced on the 22nd of October. Amazon’s French website also lists the Apple TV model as “MD199FD/A” which is the current model of the device, as opposed to an unknown model that could hint at an upcoming refresh. Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info, so if a new Apple TV is something you’re looking forward to, check back with us on the 22nd of October for the details.

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Eye Sensor (Rumor)

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Eye Sensor (Rumor)When it comes to rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S5, you can bet your bottom dollar that a fair amount has been reported already. For instance, we did hear whispers of a possible January 2014 release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, not to mention that it might even arrive with an Exynos 6 14nm 64-bit processor, in addition to having the possibility of a rugged version of the Galaxy S5 being in the pipeline. Phew! All of that is a lot to handle, and one also figures that in the world of high end smartphones, it is often a game of one upmanship with your rivals. So Apple has introduced Touch ID to their iPhone 5s which is basically a fingerprint sensor. How about Samsung? The latest rumor surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be the very real possibility of having it arrive with an eye scanning sensor.

This would mean you can unlock your smartphone device with your eyes, and Samsung is allegedly already hard at work on the high-security bit of technology, although it remains to be seen in detail just how this particular piece of technology is going to work. Should this rumor end up as true, it would mean that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would offer a significant jump in smartphone security compared to what we currently have on the market.

HTC’s Amazon Device Could Be Exclusive To Prime Subscribers [Rumor]

HTCs Amazon Device Could Be Exclusive To Prime Subscribers [Rumor]The other day thanks to a report, it was suggested that Amazon’s own Android smartphone could have been designed by HTC, and with HTC making some pretty decent phones, why not, right? Well now the rumors are shifting slightly and while HTC is still the company that has been pegged to design Amazon’s Android smartphone, interestingly enough this new rumor is suggesting that the smartphone will only be offered to Amazon Prime subscribers. While this sounds like a great exclusive offer to Amazon Prime subscribers, we’re not sure if it makes sense that Amazon will want to limit their potential market share.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets have gone on and sold well, so we wouldn’t be surprised if their smartphone efforts would net the same success, but limiting it to just their Prime subscribers is an odd move. Then again it is speculated that perhaps Amazon and HTC are trying something like the Facebook phone, where HTC got the exclusive to build the handset (even though it wasn’t exactly a commercial success). Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled but in the meantime, what do you guys think? Is Amazon shooting themselves in the foot with this possible strategy?

WSJ “Confirms” iPhone 5c Orders Being Cut

WSJ Confirms iPhone 5c Orders Being CutA couple of days ago, thanks to a rumor out of China, it was suggested that Apple was cutting down iPhone 5c orders from their suppliers and manufacturers due to low demand for the handset. It was a bit drastic and it turns out that the rumors could be true after all, as a new report from The Wall Street Journal has basically corroborated the story as well. According to the report, Foxconn has been asked to cut down their orders by a third, while Pegatron will see their orders reduced by 20%, at least that’s what the WSJ’s sources are claiming.

While this might seem like the demand for the iPhone is going down, that’s not the case as two Foxconn executives have claimed that in place, Apple has upped the orders of the iPhone 5s. This has led to speculation that perhaps Apple overestimated the demand for the iPhone 5c and had assumed that its slightly cheaper price tag would drive customers to the device, but we guess based on this report, perhaps customers are more willing to pay a little bit more to own a higher-end and more powerful handset after all. It is still a bit too early to tell if this means that the iPhone 5c is doomed for failure, but what do you guys think? Would you rather save a bit of money and get the iPhone 5c, or would you rather invest a little more for a “better” product?

WSJ: Apple Is Slashing Orders for the iPhone 5C

Apple took a big step when it introduced the iPhone 5C, and since the internet has been abuzz with how successful—or otherwise—the handset will be. Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is slashing orders for the device.
