We’ve already seen a possible ‘Space Gray’ version of the upcoming iPad Mini 2
You guys might recall that back in 2011, former Apple executive, Tony Fadell, launched a thermostat called the Nest Learning Thermostat. The device, for those unfamiliar, is to help regulate the temperature in your homes but does it in a smart way and will learn your needs, while at the same time optimize itself to consume less energy in the long run. The device has since seen a release of a second-generation but now word on the street has it that the company is looking to release a smoke detector that is expected to work alongside the Learning Thermostat.
It is unclear as to the full specifications of the smoke detector, but given the Learning Thermostat’s features, the smoke detector product is expected to be heavily laden with sensors as well, apart from the default and obvious smoke sensor, of course. Some features could include subscription monitoring services along with motion sensors. It has also been rumored that the device could be announced later this year as well, so we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for it, but what do you guys think? What sort of high-tech features could a smoke detector bring to the table?

Back in August, it was rumored that Nikon was set to announced a couple of new cameras, and the Nikon D610 was one of them. The camera is is expected to be the successor of the Nikon D600 and according to the folks at Nikon Rumors, they are expecting the announcement to take place on the 7th-8th of October. According to the rumors, the D610 will not feature groundbreaking hardware improvements, but rather a slight upgrade over its predecessor, one of them being improved continuous shooting speed which is said to be set at 6fps, versus the 5.5fps on the Nikon D600.
Other specifications include a 24.3MP sensor, an ISO range of 100-6,400, 39-point AF system, 100% viewfinder coverage, Full HD video recording, a 3.2” LCD display, and will not come with WiFi or GPS capabilities which admittedly is a bit odd given that both features are starting to become pretty common in cameras these days. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’re only two weeks off from the rumored announcement so we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see if it pans out.

We have heard in the past rumors that Apple could be looking to create a larger iPad tablet, despite how some reports are suggesting that the current form factor is considered to be more appealing, but then again Apple has never really followed convention so we guess it wouldn’t be a complete surprise. In any case according to a new report from the United Daily News, they are claiming that Apple is currently working with Quanta Computer on manufacturing the alleged larger iPad, claiming that the display Apple is working on could be a 12” one, despite the previous report which suggested a 12.9” display.
Apple, along with other tech companies, have been known to create prototype devices which never see the light of day, so it is possible that this alleged larger iPad could be one of them. The report claims that Apple and Quanta are currently in talks and are testing said product, so it could be a while before we actually see it materialize, if at all. It is unlikely that the alleged device will see a launch this year alongside the iPad mini 2 and fifth-gen iPad, so if we had to guess, 2014 would be a safe bet. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of a larger iPad? Yay or nay?

There were some who were a little disappointed by the Samsung Galaxy S4 earlier this year when it was discovered that the South Korean company turned to plastic once again, instead of metal, like what Apple, Nokia, HTC, and Sony did. Samsung’s answer at that time was that plastic was more durable in terms of flexibility, so when dropped it would not be as damaged compared to metal, which we guess makes sense. However it looks like Samsung could be having a change of heart as recent rumors have surfaced suggesting that Samsung could be turning to metal for the Galaxy S5 which is expected to see a release in 2014.
The report comes from the Taipei Times who claims that Samsung could tap Catcher Technology to make the metal casing for the upcoming device. For those unfamiliar, Catcher Technology is the same company behind the casings for the Apple MacBook Air and iPad mini, so it is safe to say that the company has experience in the matter. We are still a pretty long way off from Samsung making an official announcement so take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Will the Galaxy S5 be the first all-metal Samsung smartphone? More importantly, are you looking forward to such a design?

Samsung may well be the first company to actually deliver on the endless promise that flexible displays are on the way, with a limited edition Galaxy Note III with a plastic OLED screen said to be in production.
What is this that we hear? Is Microsoft not content with their Xbox video game console business alone, that they want to expand their horizons? It seems that Microsoft themselves has formed a joint venture with a Shanghai media giant known as BesTV, and this partnership’s main aim is to roll out a new games device that will deliver streaming entertainment services. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, this joint venture looks set to be limited within the shores of China itself. The companies did put up a note on the Shanghai Stock Exchange that shed more light on such an operation that is tipped to launch with an initial investment of $237 million.
So far, there has been reports on the ground which have yet to be vetted, where Chinese media touted that this new joint venture will see a console launch that is based on Xbox technology, calling it the Bestpad. Not exactly the most inspiring or innovating names out there, but I guess with BesTV as one of the partners, it makes sense. It remains to be seen whether this Bestpad will be a success in China, and if it is, will it cannibalize on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One sales?

The HTC One was announced and released earlier this year and while the handset featured some pretty impressive hardware and was met with generally positive reviews, sales of the device weren’t that impressive and perhaps the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 played a part. In any case it looks like the HTC One could be on the end of a hardware refresh, thanks to a screenshot sent in to Greek website, Tech Community. According to the screenshot, it alleges that the HTC One would get a hardware update where it would see its quad-core processor upgraded to an octa-core processor, and see its RAM bumped from 2GB to 3GB.
It is unclear who will be making the octa-core chipset for HTC because obviously it won’t be Samsung who will want to keep the Exynos lineup an exclusive for their own phones, and while MediaTek comes to mind, theirs is based on the Cortex-A7 design which isn’t the most powerful chipset at the moment. Of course the screenshot could be a fake since it won’t be hard to photoshop the words “Octa-core” into the menu, but what do you guys think? Could we be seeing an octa-core HTC One handset in the near future?

A few weeks ago during IFA 2103, Samsung took the wraps off their Galaxy Note 3 device, a handset which along with the Galaxy S4 was one of Samsung’s most anticipated devices of 2013. We had heard that Samsung could be looking to introduce an entry-level version of the Note 3 which would keep the same dimensions, but just use less premium parts and will have slightly less powerful hardware to keep costs down, but it seems that apart from the rumors of an entry-level Note 3, word on the street has it that a limited edition flexible display Note 3 could be in the works too.
This is according to a Korean news publication who claims that Samsung is working on a Galaxy Note 3 device with a flexible display that would be produced in limited quantities due to the flexible display technology still in its infancy. We know that Samsung has been working on flexible displays and every year we hear about how Samsung’s next phone would sport the technology, so could the Galaxy Note 3 be the first? Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information, but if anything, we’re guessing that this limited run Galaxy Note 3 would be more about testing the waters rather than to generate huge revenue, but we’ll be looking forward to it nonetheless.
