BlackBerry Kopi Leaked Again, Spotted Alongside The BlackBerry Q5

BlackBerry Kopi Leaked Again, Spotted Alongside The BlackBerry Q5Just last week we managed to catch a glimpse at alleged photos of the BlackBerry “Kopi”. For those unfamiliar with the device, it’s apparently one of the devices that BlackBerry had cancelled before the company decided to go ahead with the BlackBerry Z3 and the BlackBerry Q20. We’re not sure why BlackBerry decided to cancel the phone, but interestingly enough it has been getting a lot of attention as of late, thanks to even more leaked photos.

The photos were leaked by genk.vn and this time it is seen next to the BlackBerry Q5 for comparison purposes. As far as we can tell, both devices look pretty much the same, save for the silver accent at the bottom of the BlackBerry Kopi. In fact for all we know, perhaps the Kopi’s alleged cancellation could be due to the fact that it is too similar to the BlackBerry Q5 which would be pretty pointless.

However with all these recent leaks, we can’t help but think that the device isn’t as dead as we’d like to believe. BlackBerry did state that they are planning on appealing to fans and loyalists who apparently prefer BlackBerry’s QWERTY devices rather than their full touchscreen handsets like the BlackBerry Z10 and the Z30, but what do you guys think?

HTC M8 Ace Leaked

HTC M8 Ace LeakedMuch has been said and done about the HTC One M8 ever since it was released, and apart from that, it seems that we also have rumors concerning the HTC One M8 mini going around. Well, apparently there is yet another HTC One M8 variant, where serial leakster @evleaks has referred to this particular device as the “HTC M8 Ace”.

Unfortunately for us and the rest of the world, the HTC M8 Ace that @evleaks showed is nothing much to look at – other than the fact that the overall design does not seem to veer too far away from the HTC One M8, sporting its now signature rounded corners as well as an HTC logo located right below its display. The display’s image has been blurred out, but some enterprising sleuths decided to make some guesses concerning it, with the possibility of it being a green Sense 6 screenshot that is not too different from the one found in the HTC One M8 press images.

Does the HTC M8 Ace arrive in a shade of red? Perhaps, which makes it all the more interesting, since the HTC One M8 is currently available in gray, silver and gold colors. What do you make of it all?

ZTE Apollo Could Be 64-Bit Android Smartphone

ZTE Apollo Could Be 64 Bit Android SmartphoneAccording to Chinese media CNMO, ZTE is currently working on a 64-bit Android smartphone that has been given the codename Apollo. It does seem as though this particular smartphone will be based on one of Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon 808 and 810 silicon chipsets, although we will not rule out the likes of the Snapdragon 410, 610, and 615. After all, nothing has been confirmed yet, and this would be a rumor at best, but if the ZTE Apollo is going to be a 64-bit smartphone, then it certainly deserves mention and recognition.

After all, any of theoptions mentioned above would be more or less capable of handling any kind of intensive software or apps without missing a beat, despite the fact that all five chipsets happen to be very different.

For starters, the Snapdragon 410 and 610 happen to be quad-core chipsets that will target low and mid-range devices, where they will function on 1.2GHz and 1.6GHz spectrums and have been paired with Adreno 306 and Adreno 405 GPUs, respectively. As for the Snapdragon 615, it will be an octa-core 1.8GHz CPU with the 610’s GPU, with the hexa-core Snapdragon 808 and octa-core 810 being right at the very top of the food chain. I suppose all that we can do now is sit tight and wait for something official to be revealed.

Apple iWatch Rumored For Q3 2014 Launch

Apple iWatch Rumored For Q3 2014 LaunchThe Apple iWatch has been rumored about for quite a while now. In fact we have been hearing about the rumored device for more than a year now so we guess it’s either the device is fake and does not exist, or it could be that it is nearing its official reveal.

In fact according to supply chain sources (via Taiwan’s Economic Daily News), it seems that the device could be launched as soon as Q3 2014, which coincidentally enough is also around the time that Apple could launch their next-gen iPhone, assuming that Apple keeps to schedule, of course.

The report goes on to claim that Quanta Computer will be manufacturing the watch, while companies like Richtek Technology and TPK will be supplying the chips and sapphire touch panels that will be used in the watch respectively. This recent report seems to contradict earlier claims that Quanta would be manufacturing the device in time for a Q2 release, while TPK will be supplying flexible AMOLED panels, and not sapphire touch panels.

Then again these are merely rumors so safe to say that we have no idea which is real and which isn’t, or it could be that both rumors weren’t even real to begin with. That being said if there’s one thing that the rumors all seem to suggest, it is that the iWatch will be focusing on health. In fact rumors about iOS 8 hints that there will be health-related apps, like Healthbook for instance. The latest rumor about the iWatch also hints at possible UV exposure sensors.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but with companies like Google, Samsung, LG, and Motorola making the smartwatch push this year, we expect Apple will want to get something into the market before it is too late.

Apple Working On In-House Baseband Chip Design For The iPhone [Rumor]

Apple Working On In House Baseband Chip Design For The iPhone [Rumor]Apple’s desire to control everything from start to end is pretty well-known. This is compared to other OEMs who might either use ready-made parts or utilize reference designs to create their products. This is perfectly fine as not many companies have the resources or have plans to start up their own R&D division.

Now according to a report from DigiTimes, they are claiming that Apple is currently putting together a new engineering team that will allegedly work on creating baseband hardware for future iPhone models.

At the moment, the baseband chips used in iPhone models are being supplied by Qualcomm and manufactured by TSMC and if the reports are true, Apple shift to an in-house design will affect both Qualcomm and TSMC.

The report also suggests that these chips will not be making their debut this year and will most likely be reserved for iPhones in 2015, which could be the iPhone 6s assuming that Apple maintains its release cycle.

DigiTimes also adds that it is possible that Apple could eventually develop SoCs that will integrate application processors and baseband chips, although the likely scenario is that Apple will keep to using discrete baseband chips, at least for the time being. It should be noted that while this sounds like something Apple would do, DigiTimes’ track record has been pretty spotty so do take it with a grain of salt for now.

It is also unlikely that this is something Apple will actually announce publicly so if we wanted any confirmation, teardown of 2015’s iPhones would probably be a good way to figure out if the reports have any merit to them.

Kyocera Brigadier Tipped For Verizon

Kyocera Brigadier Tipped For VerizonKycoera isn’t exactly a very big name when it comes to smartphones in the US, although to be fair the company has released several phones on US carriers in the past like the Kyocera Hydro Plus (pictured above) and the Kyocera Torque, just to name a few. However it seems that the Japanese company still has plans for the US and according to a post by @evleaks, a certain Kyocera Brigadier will be making its way to Verizon.

Unfortunately no word on when the Kyocera Brigadier will be arriving, how much it will cost, how it will look like, or what kind of specs it packs under the hood, but considering that Kyocera’s previously released products for the North American markets tends to be of the rugged variety, then perhaps we can look forward to something similar with the Kyocera Brigadier as well.

Kyocera’s products also tend to be on the low-mid ranged end of things so we doubt we will be able to expect some kind of super phone that will compete with the likes of recently released flagship phones from Sony, HTC, Samsung, and LG. However if you’re in the market for something affordable and durable, perhaps Kyocera could be a brand you can turn to.

In any case we’re just speculating now but do check back with us at a later date to see if there are any additional details about the Kyocera Brigadier that we might be able to provide you guys with.

Leather Could Be An Option For Next-Gen Moto X [Rumor]

Leather Could Be An Option For Next Gen Moto X [Rumor]On the surface, Motorola’s Moto X handset looks quite normal, but thanks to Moto Maker, it allows users to customize their handset to their liking, at least visually. One of the more unique aspects of its design is that Motorola has offered wooden backplates which is a nice change of pace from the usual plastic, metal, or glass materials that we’ve gotten used to so far.

However according to a recent tweet by the ever-reliable @evleaks, it seems that Motorola could be shifting their focus away from wood to leather in 2014. The Moto X offered up a variety of different wooden backplates made from different types of woods, so it will be interesting to see what kind of leather finishes Motorola could offer this time around.

In fact earlier @evleaks also revealed that there is a new Moto X successor in the works called the Moto X + 1 (we know it sounds a little weird, but at least it stands out, right?), so we wouldn’t be completely surprised if the Moto X’s successor were to use the rumored leather finish as one of its options.

Leather finishes have been used on smartphones before, although they tend to be found on luxury handsets, so it will be nice to see it used on a “regular” device, but what do you guys think? Would a leather finish be something you’d be interested in, or did you prefer a wooden backplate instead?

Google’s Project Hera Will Merge Android, Chrome, And The Web [Rumor]

Googles Project Hera Will Merge Android, Chrome, And The Web [Rumor]We have been hearing a fair amount of rumors these days when it comes to the next major build of Android, which could be shown off at Google I/O which will be taking place in the later part of June this year.

We have heard of how Google plans to put an end to Android fragmentation with “Android Silver” and interestingly enough there have also been talks about how the next Android build could have a focus on enterprise. Now according to a report from Android Police, they’re talking about another feature that could arrive in the next build of Android called Project Hera.

So what is Project Hera? Well the goal of Project Hera is to help bridge all of Google’s products and services. What this means is that it could somehow unify Android, Chrome, and Google Search and have them all work together and synchronize seamlessly across the board. The plan is to allow HTML5 apps to be integrated into native Android apps and the Android platform itself.

This means that users will be able to perform specific tasks without actually having to launch the app itself, which could be a huge convenience. Some examples that Android Police had include to ability users will be able to directly reply to messages or emails without having to open the app, or be able to activate an account by pressing a button next to the message instead of having to open the email and scan its contents.

Project Hera’s instances are also said to fall under a unified UI that makes it easy to spot within your multitasking stack, which apparently will look something like the rumored redesign of the Gmail for Android interface. To sum it up, Hera will be something like Chrome where what you browse on your desktop and what you bookmark will be synchronized on your mobile Chrome as well, except that this will apply to a variety of Google services/products.

Of course there’s no telling how true any of this is since Google has not officially confirmed anything yet, but with Google I/O taking place in a couple of months, perhaps we will be able to learn more about Project Hera then.

Apple Rumored To Be Testing 65-inch Display Panels For iTV

Apple Rumored To Be Testing 65 inch Display Panels For iTVEver since Walter Isaacson’s biography of the late Steve Jobs hit the market, there have been talks that Apple could be working on an “iTV” of their own. The reports stem from a quote in the book in which Steve Jobs claims to have “cracked” the TV market. However apart from that, we haven’t seen any evidence that Apple is indeed working on such a device.

That hasn’t stopped the rumors from circulating and according to the latest one from The Korea Herald, it suggests that Apple could be currently testing 65-inch display panels. The report cites IBK Securities analysts who believes that Apple could have requested for the display panels from a Korean manufacturer which could potentially be used towards manufacturing an Apple TV device in the future.

No word on who this alleged manufacturer is, but according to the report, “Around 2 million Apple‘s iTVs with 65- and 77-inch liquid crystal displays were expected to hit the market in the second half of this year. However, Apple employees visited this local company in October 2013 to delay the plans to next year,” said a source close to the matter on Saturday. “Following the visit, the display maker’s stock prices plunged.”

In any case the report itself is pretty vague so we wouldn’t put too much stock into it at the moment, although it does serve to revive iTV rumors which have recently been relatively quiet, at least in the face of new rumors that suggests that Apple could instead be revamping its Apple TV set top box, but what do you guys think? Do you reckon we will be seeing the rumored iTV anytime soon?
