Samsung builds a social networking app around S Pen doodles

PENUP app from Samsung lets you flaunt your S Pen doodles

For those who actually unsheathe the S Pen from their Samsung device from time to time (unlike yours truly), there’s now away to flaunt your stylus-ing prowess in public. The company has just launched PEN.UP, a social networking app dedicated to digital artwork from suitably-equipped Galaxy devices. Like any good sharing app, you can set up a personal feed containing your own sketches, group them thematically and follow and like others. For those who think drawing is a competitive sport, there’s even a hall of of fame where members can vie for champion artist honors. So, if you’re looking to get your S Pen on (and have a supported device), hit the source.

Samsung details new S Pen with Air Command feature for Galaxy Note 3

Samsung’s just officially announced the Galaxy Note 3 at its big IFA event, and its not so surprisingly spent a lot of time talking about the phone’s brand new S Pen. In addition to bringing with it slightly new design, the pen also enables a number of new features on the phone. The biggest of those is the new Air Command functionality, which is a small pop-up window that’s brought up automatically by the S Pen and offers quick access to features like Action Memo (which can link memos to actions), a scrapbook, the S Finder search option, and the updated S Note, which can sync content with your PC and tablet through Evernote. Fans of the Note’s flip covers will also be glad to know that they can now also use the S Pen with the cover closed. Check out our full Galaxy Note 3 preview for a closer look at the S Pen’s new features and, of course, the phone itself. %Gallery-slideshow79501%

Supposed Galaxy S IV leak resurfaces in high-res pics, lists more features and specs

Supposed Galaxy S IV leak resurfaces in highres pics, lists more features and specs

What is purported to be a dual-SIM equipped engineering sample of Samsung’s Galaxy S IV popped up a few days ago in pictures and video on a Chinese forum, and now it’s back for a better look. The new pictures show off what’s measured as a 1080p 4.99-inch display with an embossed home key and cross-hatch textured plastic back cover (already cracked on this unit). Engadget Chinese came through with a translation, and the specs listed on it168 claim its Exynos 5410 is a 1.8GHz 8-core CPU unit, with PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU. The i9502 weighs in at 138g and measures 7.7mm thick, packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB ROM storage with a microSD expansion slot and has a 2600mAh battery.

Also revealed are a few more software tweaks, with the Smart Stay eye tracking that had previously been outed, plus a feature (pictured after the break) that lets users hover their fingers over the display to produce a Galaxy Note II S-Pen stylus-like effect. Check out another picture after the break or an entire slideshow past the source leak — we’re less than 24 hours away from seeing the real thing unveiled in NYC.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 available on Verizon March 7th for $600

Verizon Galaxy Note 101 available March 7th for $600

We’ve known that the Galaxy Note 10.1 was destined for Verizon Wireless as early as CES two months ago, but now Big Red has finally supplied us with details on when and how much. The carrier will begin offering the Note 10.1 this Thursday, and all it will cost you is a mere $600 for the privilege of calling it your very own. To recap, Verizon’s version will offer Android 4.1 with cascading Multi-Window support, a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2GB RAM, 7,000mAh battery and — naturally — the carrier’s huge logos taking up the most space on the back.

Samsung Purchases 5% Of Wacom To Further Strengthen Its Stylus

Samsung Purchases 5% Of Wacom To Further Strengthen Its Stylus

Samsung Galaxy Note users are probably extremely familiar with their S-Pen as it’s accompanied both Galaxy Note devices and the Galaxy Note 10.1 and add something to those devices that no other pen-like accessory can accomplish. If you’re not a fan of the Galaxy Note’s stylus, it looks as though you’ll be stuck with it for some time as Samsung has made an investment in a company, which indicates its stylus accessories will be here to stay.

Samsung purchased 5% of Wacom, which is a company that manufactures one of the top designer tablets around, totaling an investment of $58.2 million. Purchasing 5% of Wacom will hopefully give Samsung more features for its stylus accessories.

Not only that, but considering how Samsung is promoting its Note products to be used by designers, among other uses, having Wacom help in producing some designer-focused features for new Note products would make those devices even more appetizing.

Or maybe Samsung purchasing Wacom has to do with the rumor of the Samsung Galaxy S4 coming with a stylus.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Reportedly Caught On Camera, Inherits Design Language Of Galaxy Note II

tab4_b_7733

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 is rumored for an official unveiling at Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona, but this week it’s been the subject of a lot of rumors and speculation ahead of release. Today, there’s a new leak from Italy’s DDAY.it that purports to show the Galaxy Note 8 in action in the hands of an actual user. The pics are a lot more convincing than the SamMobile leak of a brochure shot of the same from earlier in the week, with a design that’s reminiscent of Samsung’s most recent smartphones.

The Galaxy Note 8 that’s apparently depicted in these photos looks essentially like a blown up Galaxy Note II, with a rounded rectangle shell framing an 8-inch display. Down at the bottom of the bezel you see a physical home button, framed on either side by a back button and what looks like a multitasking button as touch-sensitive keys. You can also see a front-facing camera, as well as a rear camera without a visible flash. There’s also an S-Pen holster integrated into the bottom right of the rear casing, as you can see in the first image above.

The Galaxy Note 8 is supposedly going to arrive with 2GB of RAM on board, with the front camera pegged at 1.3 megapixels, and the rear at 5 megapixels. The display is supposed to be around 1280 x 800, which, while not mind-blowingly dense, still beats the iPad mini with 189 ppi vs. 163 ppi for Apple’s smaller tablet. A report from earlier this week suggest it will have a 1.6GHz quad core processor under the hood.

A MWC unveiling makes sense for this device, since Samsung showed off the Galaxy Note 10.1 with S-Pen at the event in Barcelona last year. And this design, while different from the SamMobile leak from Tuesday, bears a striking similarity to that device, meaning one or the other likely represents a slightly different pre-production design.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Launching April With S Pen [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S4 Launching April With S Pen [Rumor]

We caught a glimpse of a Samsung Galaxy S4 concept video earlier this morning, but let’s return from the land of make-believe for a minute to take care of some real Samsung business, shall we? We know many of you, like us, are highly anticipating the reveal and release of the next Samsung Galaxy S device, which may be coming in nearly four months from now and may pack a little surprise if a recent rumor turns out to be true.

According to Korean website Enuri, Samsung plans to launch its Galaxy S4 in April 2013 that sports a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a quad-core Exynos 5440 chip, 13-megapixel rear auto-focus camera and an S Pen, which previously was only made available for Samsung’s Galaxy Note line of smartphones and tablet.

Seeing how Samsung is going to be a total buzzkill and not announce the Galaxy S4 at CES next week, we’ll just need to sit back and wait until they decide to officially unveil their next Galaxy S phone, which if it’s launching in April, may be sometime next Spring.
