Handson with Gigabyte's S1082 and S1185 Windows 8 tablets

Gigabyte came to CES with a pair of Windows 8 tablets, the S1082 and S1185, in hopes of making a splash in a US market that still tends to associate the company name with PC motherboards. We had the opportunity to try both, and came away intrigued — there’s a handful of touches on each that separate them from the pack. Read after the break for our impressions and video tours.

Gigabyte Unveils S1082 And S1185 Windows 8 Tablets

s1185 Gigabyte Unveils S1082 And S1185 Windows 8 Tablets[CES 2013] If you’re interested in picking up a new Windows 8 tablet, Gigabyte has announced two new tablets at CES 2013 – the S1185 designed for the average Joe, and the S1082 which has been designed for the not-so-average Joe, or rather the more business minded user. Starting with the S1185: this Windows 8 tablet will be powered by a 3rd generation Intel Core processor with a Full HD IPS display, with Gigabyte claiming that this tablet will deliver “ultimate performance” and a “wonderful user experience”. It will feature standard VGA and HDMI ports, a magnetically attached keyboard kit, Gigabyte mouse options, Optical Finger Navigation for PC mode usage, and dual cameras.

Next up is the S1082 which Gigabyte claims is perfect for productivity. The S1082 will be more or less the same as the S1185, with the main difference being that it will come with cellular connectivity so you don’t have to rely on WiFi all the time. It will also come in either a 500GB HDD version that will allow you to store more files, or an SSD version that will offer a “speedy user experience”. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but with all the Windows 8 competition going around, will Gigabyte be able to make a dent?

Gigabyte arrives at CES with two Windows 8 tablets, including 116inch S1185 with 1080p and Ivy Bridge

Who’s afraid of the Windows 8 tablet crush? Not Gigabyte. According to Mobile Geeks, the company has brought a couple of new tablets to Las Vegas — the S1185 for regular customers and the businessy S1082 — in the expectation that they’ll make a dent despite intense competition. The more interesting S1185 has a few things going for it, including a 1080p 11.6-inch display, a powerful Ivy Bridge processor (which could admittedly make battery life an issue), a magnetic add-on and ‘optical finger navigation’ — something we’ll investigate further when it comes to hands-on time. Meanwhile, the S1082 follows a similar format but adds cellular connectivity and the option of a 500GB HDD instead of a smaller SSD. That’s all we know for now, but we’ll try to track these slates down on the show floor shortly.
