Expect to pay a significant monthly sum too, especially if you eventually want to exploit that Sprint-flavored LTE we keep hearing about.

Welcome to Wednesday evening, everyone. Today Samsung sent out formal invites to its upcoming Galaxy Note II press event in New York City, and we were told that HTC will be backing out of the US tablet market, at least for a little while. RIM is trying to lure developers into BlackBerry 10 with a new “$10K Developer Committment,” in which RIM says it will give developers $10,000 if their app reaches $1,000 in sales. RIM also opened up app submissions for BlackBerry 10 developers today, and we heard that the rumored LG Nexus 4 smartphone may be making its debut on October 29.

Microsoft showed us the retail packaging for Windows 8 today, while eBay gave us a look at its incoming redesign and launched a brand new same-day shipping app for iOS. Huawei may be facing a ban in Canada after US lawmakers suggested the company could potentially help China with espionage, and like so many other companies these days, PayPal has updated its policy to prevent disgruntled users from taking it to court.

Today’s Canadian launch of the DROID RAZR HD suggests that we may soon see it launch in the United States, and NASA’s new satellites that are powered by the HTC Nexus One will be heading into space next year. Earlier today we heard that Microsoft Office will be coming to Android and iOS next year, but it wasn’t long after that rumor hit before Microsoft was saying that there wasn’t any truth to it. Gearbox said today that the freshly-released Mechromancer DLC and the rank reset bug in Borderlands 2 have nothing to do with one another, while we learned that Wing Commander designer Chris Roberts is making a new space MMO.

Dishonored developer Arkane Studios said today that it wasn’t pressured by Bethesda to include multiplayer in the game, while Rovio released a brand new Bad Piggies-themed update for Angry Birds. A new Twitter study gives us a much closer look at the differences between male and female tweeters, and TweetDeck has been updated with a new theme and adjustable fonts. Finally tonight, we have a pair of original articles and a review for you to look through. Chris Burns discusses why AT&T’s new partnership with IBM will give the cloud the boost it needs, and why the Galaxy S III Mini proves that Samsung’s hero branding is working. He also gave us a review of the new Lenovo IdeaTab A2109, so be sure to have a look at that.

It’s time once again to get excited about the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the “Next Big Thing” from Samsung, in a press event made to cradle the device right in its New York City embrace. This is one of a long line of “Word Tour” events for the Galaxy Note II, recently confirmed for several carriers here in the USA. This event will take place on the 24th of October and will very likely contain additional details on the final release of this device across the states.

What we’re seeing here is not a whole lot new other than what’s essentially a confirmation that the device won’t be changing much as it crosses the ocean to hit the USA. You’ve still got the S-Pen and the massive 5.5-inch display, you’re still working with that lovely new nature-inspired body and software, and you still have the Pebble Blue color option. For those of you looking to get a glimpse of the Galaxy Note II before it hits our shores, don’t miss our Samsung Galaxy Note II in-depth Review.

What we’re likely going to see here is a lovely presentation of what each different carrier here in the USA will be bringing to the device as far as apps go – though it’s likely that the presentation that’ll be made will cover the features we know about, for the most part, that exist on each different carrier iteration of the device. This massive beast works to integrate the Samsung universe with a body that’s extremely similar to the Samsung Galaxy S III, a device that’ll likely be getting another partner later this week on the 12th with the Galaxy S III Mini.

The Galaxy Note II takes what the first Galaxy Note had and increases its excellence with a slightly larger display an a more universally compatible pixel aspect ratio at 1280 x 720. You’ll be having just as fun a time fitting this device into your pocket with its massive body and a slightly modified S-Pen as well. Those of you familiar with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will recognize this new pen’s configuration as it’s essentially the same model as that device brought forth. Get pumped up!

Now that the Galaxy Note II has already been made public for AT&T and Sprint, it’s T-Mobile’s turn at bat. The magenta network isn’t deviating significantly from the hardware seen at other American carriers, aside from the absence of (currently active) LTE, but it does brag about bonus software. Gamers taken with the MOGA Bluetooth gamepad will get a preloaded, special version of an “exciting new racing game” that’s tailored for the physical controller. Unfortunately, T-Mobile is shy about committing to prices and ship dates for the gray and white Note II editions it will be offering in the weeks ahead — although there’s more than one hint that we should keep an eye out around October 24th, or at least no later than mid-November.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note II is one of the biggest phones this year, both figuratively, and literally. The OG Note stretched palms when it arrived last 12 months ago, with its 5.3-inch display, and it proved so popular that Samsung did it all over again — and a little bit more. Not only is it hot off the production presses, we’ve also got one to give away to a lucky UK reader, courtesy of the kind people at online retailer MobiCity.
