Samsung Galaxy S3 Has Browser Bug That Consumes More Data Than It Should

The Samsung Galaxy S3 could consume more data than it should in a newly discovered bug.

Purple Samsung Galaxy S3 Spotted

Purple Samsung Galaxy S3 SpottedSure, you might think that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is old hat by now (which it is, actually, considering how the next version of the Samsung Galaxy family has already been announced earlier this month), but this does not mean there are no one else out there who would not mind owning one of these sweet puppies in a heartbeat. After all, it would be folly to rule the Samsung Galaxy S3 as an obsolete smartphone right now, as there are still some miles left in its proverbial legs.

A few days back, the world caught a glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy S3, which should not turn heads at all, but rather, what made the news was the story that this particular model of the Galaxy S3 came in a shade that was not seen before – that is, purple. Samsung has this particular tendency of naming the colors of their devices according to nature, so it makes perfect sense to see it carry an amethyst hue this time around. No idea on the exact date as to when the amethyst Galaxy S3 will arrive on Sprint, but chances are it will be sometime from the middle of next month onwards. [Product Page]

Bright blue LEDs on the back to indicate how much power is left in the battery, and it also has smart technology inside to turn off when the smartphone is fully-charged to prevent wasted power.

The case also uses special technology to ensure that the Galaxy SIII’s NFC wireless transmissions pass through the silicone material, allowing the smartphone to communicate with other devices placed close to it using magnetic field induction.

The PowerSkin case is available right now for $79.99 (USD).  As an added bonus people to buy one before September 19th also get a free portable speaker.

Mophie readies Galaxy S III Juice Packs, coming very soon

If you thought Mophie was planning to keep its smartphone Juice Packs exclusively Apple-based — we’d have probably agreed with you. But then we got to take a look at this pair of cases crafted for Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Yep, the battery-packing cover (which looks likely to fit all the current iterations) promises to give “over double the battery life” of your un-augmented handset. This was just a brief peek — but expect the (as-yet unpriced) cases to appear in stores around the end of October, early November.

Samsung reveals the design story highlights for the Galaxy S III

Samsung reveals the design story highlights for the GSIII,

Samsung was very keen to let us know that its latest flagship phone was designed for humans. Now, the latest in the revealing series from the firm gives a little more insight into how the team went about that. For example, product designer Hangil Song explains how the rounded edges were inspired by pebbles in a stream, while sound engineer Joongsam Yun describes how they wanted to make the phone sound like a stroll in the forest. So, next time you’re barging your way down Mainstreet with four ounces of synthetic material blaring out Carly Rae Jepsen, remember, you’re doing it wrong.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Voice over LTE smartphone prepared

Samsung is at the forefront of the record books yet again, having made an announcement that concerns the first Voice over LTE (VoLTE) smartphone in the world (at least this is what they claim, and we do know that MetroPCS, of all the mobile carriers in the US, have announced the first VoLTE service in the US recently), and this particular smartphone will be available to the masses with their flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE spearheading this particular niche market.

Samsung is said to be supporting VoLTE with the Galaxy S3 LTE model in Korea sometime from this month onwards, and this will be followed up by the availability of this particular smartphone across global LTE markets, making sure that Samsung will remain at the forefront of the LTE market as well as mobile communications technology. Good luck to them, and I do hope that this venture will be able to take off, as Samsung already has plenty on their hands at the moment, especially with the high profile court case against Apple that is happening in the US right now.

For the uninitiated, just what is VoLTE? Well, VoLTE basically relies on an IP packet-based service for both voice and data, which will pave the way for new multimedia services to be introduced, including the ability to convert from voice call to video call. Not only that, with VoLTE, it also delivers more than double the voice frequency of 3G and HD-level audio codec (AMR-WB), which in turn translates to delivering high quality voice calls that can be compared to having a direct conversation with someone in person – I suppose this is one claim that I will need to hear it to believe it, how about you?

It is said that the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE smartphones can receive an upgrade to support VoLTE services through a software update, all without having to go through the hassle of adding in more communication chips.

Verizon’s Galaxy S III gets global roaming workaround, packs its bags

Verizon's Galaxy S III gets global roaming workaround, packs its bags

What’s the point of owning Samsung’s shiny new flagship if you can’t take it on tour? Well, prior to Verizon’s Galaxy S III launch, customers were promised that global roaming would be enabled sometime in the future via an OTA update. That unspecified date has yet to come, but if it’s something of a priority for you, XDA Developers forum member lair12 has discovered a way make it happen without Big Red’s involvement. We feel we should add a warning here — switching from LTE to GSM isn’t a simple process and goes far beyond a basic rooting (which, of course, is required). It includes a fair amount of preparation, including manually adding GSM network identifiers, and several steps to switch allegiances once abroad. But if you’re a jet-setting Android tinkerer interested in giving it a go (at your own peril), the step-by-step guide is just a source link away.

Verizon-branded Galaxy S III wireless charging kit starts showing up at retail stores

Verizon-branded Galaxy S III wireless charging kit starts showing up at retail stores

Back when we met the Galaxy S III for the very first time, Samsung promised a wireless charging solution would be coming soon to its sleek and potent slab. Unfortunately, Sammy’s power-boosting companion’s been hit by hapless delays that have prevented it from seeing the light of day. Now, thanks to a few recent shots from Phone Arena, it looks like at least some S3 owners could see a bundle in the near future, albeit not the official one from the Korean outfit. According to the site’s kind tipster, Verizon’s allegedly pricing the charging station at $50, while the rear case is expected to be around $40 — making it about $90 for the entire kit. Naturally, this could change at any given moment, but hey, at least we know it’s out there.
