Remember that season of Doctor Who when there was a crack in Amy Pond’s wall? Well, now you can have a crack in your wall that looks just like it. Let’s just hope it doesn’t cause the universe to explode. Or implode. Whatever. This Crack in the Wall is a custom made, battery powered LED array, set into a metal frame. It’s not only a cool modern design, but it makes for a stylish way to illuminate your wall, while keeping things true to Who.
If you want to try and build one for yourself, there are a few pictures here that might help you create one like it. Just make sure that you do it right. I don’t want to be erased from history because of your shoddy craftsmanship.
If it wasn’t obviousenoughalready, we’re prettybigfans of Doctor Who around here. I also like to eat – especially sweets. So when I saw these delicious looking Dalek cupcakes, I started drooling as much as my dog does when I’m eating steak.
They were made by DeviantARTist Nomokis, and they sure look tasty. She made them using cake mix, donut holes, cake rolls, mini marshmallows, candy sticks, and some unnatural looking food coloring. She had me at “donut holes.”
Want to make some Dalek cupcakes for yourself? Check out Nomokis’ recipe over on her Tumblr. However, you do need to be careful when you try and eat them. You never know when they’ll start to cry out for your extermination.
We have talked a few times about the coming video game from EA and Visceral Games called Dead Space 3. Last time we mentioned the game it was getting voice command support for Microsoft Kinect users. EA has now announced that the downloadable demo for the shooter be available on the Xbox Life Marketplace and the PlayStation Network on January 22, 2013.
The demo will put players into the shoes of Isaac Clarke and his co-op companion Sergeant John Carver. The demo will see players crash land on the planet Tau Volantis. The planet is covered in ice and teeming with Necromorphs. The game promises the same kind of nail-biting action we’re used to seeing in the franchise with a mix of horror, action and suspense.
Dead Space 3 is set to launch on February 5, 2013 in North America on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Xbox 360 gamers can get access to the demo a week early if they sign-up on the official demo website.
Did you watch the Doctor Who Christmas special this week? Good stuff. And now that you are in the mood to watch more of the good Doctor – but have to wait – check out this piece of jewelry made by Josephine Ryan. It’s a classy TARDIS for your neck. This TARDIS is made from sterling silver. Josephine is an artist in Norway. While she hasn’t yet figured out how to make it bigger on the inside, she has the outside looking amazing.
The Doctor should really give his companions gifts like this necklace before sending them back to their normal lives. Let’s be honest – He’s a bit cheap. Would it kill him to buy a lady some jewelry?
Many of us wish that we had some Doctor Who postage stamps to send our Christmas cards out this year. Sadly, there was nothing official available in time for the holidays. That’s about to change in the UK, while we Americans are left out in the cold. The stamps commemorate the 50th anniversary of the British sci-fi show, and feature each of the Eleven Doctors. There will also be a five stamp miniature sheet, which has the TARDIS in the center surrounded by bad guys like a Dalek, a Cyberman, an Ood and a Weeping Angel.
The stamps will be available on March 26, 2013 online at royalmail.com/stamps and at Post Offices across the UK. You can also pre-order your stamps by registering at royalmail.com/DoctorWho.
I admit, despite e-books being all the rage these days, I still love a good old-fashioned book in my hands. The problem becomes one of storage since they take up room. We need something that is bigger on the inside, like this Doctor Who TARDIS bookshelf.
This amazing TARDIS bookshelf was created by Tumblr user bowtiesandginghamshirts. As far as I can tell and it can hold the entire library of Gallifrey. I need a bookshelf like this one.
It even lights up and plays the Doctor Who theme. Wanna know how to make one? He has posted a How-To, so you can build your own. Just don’t expect it to hold as many books as THE Library.
Despite numerousunofficial builds, fans have been waiting for an honest to god authentic Back to the Future LEGO set for years. And now it looks like we will get our wish thanks to LEGO crowdsourcing site Cuusoo. LEGO has announced that an official BTTF is now in the works. The Back to the Future Cuusoo campaign was launched over a year ago by a team of LEGO builders, and since then the project has gathered over 10,000 supporters, and was selected by LEGO out of its Summer 2012 review of Cuusoo finalists. Three sets were proposed in the original campaign, including a standard DeLorean from BTTF with a Marty figure, skateboard, and a Doc figure. The DeLorean with hover modification from BTTF2 along with Marty, a hoverboard, and Doc in his future outfit. There was also a western-themed BTTF3 set. At this point, we don’t know which version LEGO will release. The set will be called the 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine.
I’m betting it will be the standard DeLorean, though it would be awesome if LEGO included parts for you to reconfigure it into different versions. The final model will become available sometime in mid 2013, so we’ll have to wait a while to see the final model.
One other cool tidbit about this model. Since Cuusoo contributors get a 1% commission on any LEGO sets sold that come out of the process, and Team BTTF has decided to donate their earnings to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Only one thing in the world could’ve dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window. And that’s the soft glow of electric robot sex gleaming in the window. Okay, R2-D2 isn’t that hot, but did you get a load of C-3PO’s gams? Not bad – for a golden robot.
This genius work of geeky craft was created by Gordon Tarpley as a combined celebration of both Star Wars and A Christmas Story. It looks like what might happen to R2 and 3PO after the Jawas had their way with them. He better not let his wife see him ogling it or she might knock it over and use up all the glue on purpose.
Who knew that they celebrated Christmas a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?
If you are into tattoos, you’ve probably seen some really awesome Star Wars designs, but have you ever seen one that has a UV glowing lightsaber? I didn’t think so. Well, as usual, the internet makes all of your dreams come true. Now you have. This guy got himself a Yoda tattoo, but not just any Yoda tattoo. This one has a lightsaber that glows under black light. If you look carefully, you’ll also notice that Yoda’s eyes and claws glow too. This artwork was inked on the back of this Star Wars fan by Kenneth Bryan aka Danktat from Intimate Body Art Studios.
Maybe he can find some other dude with Count Dooku on his back and the two of them can back into each other and fight.
Like many of you out there, I can’t wait until Star Trek: Into Darkness hits theaters next Summer. In the mean time, I have to be satisfied with other forms of Trekkism to keep my mind occupied – like this clever Starship Enterprise model, made from a defunct hard drive.
Actually, it was made from an old hard drive, bits of a dead mother board, and a laptop keyboard by geeky crafter Daniel Shankalonian. The drive platters make the perfect primary hull and bridge of the trusty old NCC-1701, while I don’t quite recognize what parts make up the warp nacelles and engineering section of the ship. The model also comes with a matching stand, made from a hard drive case and some busted headphone parts. Fascinating, Jim.
This isn’t the only U.S.S. Enterprise model that Daniel has built. This one is actually “version 2.1,” and he’s also got recycled part models of the U.S.S. Kelvin and Klingon Bird of Prey up for sale at the moment. There’s also an awesome X-Wing Fighter if you’re more into Wars than Trek. You can check out all of his nifty models over on Daniel’s Etsy shop.
