Perfect 1:850 Scale Star Trek TNG Enterprise Replica Will Cost You 9,995 Federation Credits

If you are looking for a scale replica of the Starship Enterprise, why not go straight to one just like the Enterprise D studio miniature that was used in The Next Generation series. This 1:850 scale measures 29.5″ long x 22″ wide x 6″ high – or 11″ high when mounted on its base.

As you can see, the detail on this model from Quantum Mechnanix is amazing. It has over 100 LEDs including photon torpedos and phasers and even sound effects which can be operated with a four-channel remote.

The ship is tough too, since it is made with a welded steel armature and a body that is fiberglass, polyester resins, epoxies, acrylic and styrene. Four layers of hand-painted automotive paint are on top.

The Enterprise D model also includes a 34″ long x 26″ wide x 1″ high mirrored base underneath that has plaques with the ship’s name and edition number. You can customize some of the features of the base, including the color as well as a custom inscription. Pre-orders start this month if you can afford the $9,995(USD) asking price. It is limited to only 100 pieces by the way. I need this ship now!

Robot Hat Turns Babies into Benders

Bender is a complete wise-ass. So are many toddlers – they just don’t realize it yet. At least if you see a little kid wearing this hat, you’ll know they could be trouble.

These robot hats are made by Michelle “Chell” Black, and are crocheted with the potty-mouthed robot’s trademark antenna and googley eyeballs. They’re available in multiple sizes, so whether your kid has a tiny noggin or a huge one, she’s got you covered.

It’s available over on Etsy for $25(USD). Shiny metal ass sold separately.

Star Trek Pajamas Go Where No Sleepwear Has Gone Before

I always wondered what the crew of the Starship Enterprise did at bed time. It’s not like you often saw them sleeping. I’m guessing that when they did turn in for the night, they wore these.

star trek pajamas

Yessiree, Bob, you’re looking at the official Starfleet-issued pajamas. They’re available in Command Gold, Science Blue, and Engineering Red (is it just me or do those sound like colors of Lucky Charms?) Though I might not want to bed in a red shirt for fear of dying in my sleep. They even have little socky things to keep your feet toasty while you dream of exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life and new civilizations.

Man, the guy in these images looks dorkier than Shatner did in The Original Series. But that’s okay – it’s not like you’ll be wearing these out clubbing, right? Right? Right?

All three colors of the official Star Trek pajamas are available now over at JumpinJammerz for $64.99(USD) a pair. Ask Scotty to beam down a pair before they sell out.

Chewbacca Cake Is Soft, Not Chewy on the Inside

Check out this awesomely detailed Chewbacca cake that also looks a bit like Bigfoot. Hopefully it won’t taste like hairballs and make you cough up fur like your cat. Normally, I would be afraid of a Wookiee pulling my arm out of it’s socket, but I could eat this thing all day long and just laugh at how it can’t kill me.

This fantastic geek cake comes from Crazy Cakes and yeah, this thing is crazy alright. Crazy-delicious and crazy-detailed, that is. The hand painting is just amazing. You would think that a Chewie cake would be chewy, but I am assured that it is soft and tasty.

I want one for my birthday, just so that my family can sing “Chewie birthday to you. Chewie birthday to you. You look like a Sasquatch… and you smell like one too.” That would be sweet.

Star Wars LEGO Mosaics: The Real LEGO Star Wars

Technabob readers love LEGO and they also love Star Wars. So whenever the two worlds intersect, it’s geeky bliss. I’m especially impressed with these handmade LEGO Star Wars mosaics by UK artist Douglas Bagnall.

r2 d2 close up

Each of his LEGO mosaics is made using thousands of individual 1×1 pixel blocks to create the image. The R2-D2 mosaic measures 30″x40″ and the stormtrooper is 30″x30″. Based on the 5/16″ square size of a single LEGO brick, that means that R2-D2 was made out of 12,288 bricks, and the stormtrooper was made from 9,216 bricks. Holy crap, that’s a lot of LEGO  – assuming my math is correct.

They’re certainly not inexpensive, with R2-D2 selling for £1,840.00 (~$3019 USD) and the stormtrooper going for £1,380.00 (~$2265 USD.) But when you think of all the work that went into making them, it softens the blow a little bit.

Star Trek Into Darkness teams with Dolby Atmos

The next Star Trek big-time motion picture event “Star Trek Into Darkness” has been announced to be working with none other than Dolby Atmos for superior sound. The production teams at Bad Robot and director J.J. Abrams have let it be known that they’ll be integrating the Dolby Professional Reference Monitor PRM-4200 into their pre and post-production workflows and that the Dolby Atmos audio system will bring the whole Star Trek into Darkness soundtrack experience to a whole new galaxy. This film has been announced to be hitting theaters on May 17th, 2013.

This announcement has Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom Inc., bringing this news to ShowEast 2012 where they’ve made it clear that they’re aiming for the latest in technical achievements as well as cinematic storytelling with this new beast of a film. With the Dolby hardware and software they’ll be using here, the biggest and the best can be a reality, especially since Academy Award winner Andy Nelson and multiple Academy Award nominee Anna Behlmer are up in the re-recording mix laboratory for the Dolby Atmos mix.

Academy Award winner Ben Burtt and multiple Academy Award nominee Matt Wood are the supervising sound editors for this project as well, bringing a revolution to the sound experience with a “new level of creative control” afforded by Dolby. This experience is said to be bringing the “full impact of the sound mix” regardless of the configuration of the theater in which you’re experiencing Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013.

“We are in the incredible and lucky position to have access to the latest technology, the best possible tools, and the most talented artists in the business. We are therefore thrilled to announce that we will be employing the amazingly immersive Dolby Atmos audio system to bring the Star Trek into Darkness soundtrack to life.” – Abrams

Oddly this does not mean that every theater will have a certified Dolby Atmos experience – a list of theaters selected to show “Star Trek into Darkness in Dolby Atmos” will be released closer to the release date of the film. This film was written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci and is produced by the same trio along with Abrams. The film will be produced by the four through Bad Robot Productions and, again, will be directed by Abrams. SlashGear will be continuing to cover Star Trek Into Darkness until it’s released – stay tuned!

R2-D2 Scooter Rides for Princess Vespa not Leia

If you’re waiting for me to say something about “This is the scooter you’re looking for,” don’t. I’m doing my darnedest not to use that overused droid meme ever again.

This R2-D2 Vespa scooter was made by Geekologie reader Morgan, and it’s every bit as awesome as a scooter can get. Though I doubt the headlight can project a hologram of a princess in need. But that’d be pretty cool if it did.

r2 d2 scooter 1

The fifth grade teacher/Star Wars fan says he put together the bike using “adhesive vinyl, some meticulous cutting and a 12-pack of beer.” I’m not sure where the beer went, since I thought that Bender was the only robot who had a drinking problem. Beyond the R2-D2 styling, my favorite touch is the suitcase on back, covered with travel stickers from a galaxy far, far away.

Great job, Morgan. Just don’t try and ride this R2-D2 into the Dagobah swamp.

Stormtrooper Stained Glass: If the Empire Had a Church

While I never figured Darth Vader to be a man of faith, he definitely had enough of an ego to start his own church – but instead of religious figures and scenes on the stained glass, he’d much more likely go with something like this.

stormtrooper stained glass

Yep, that’s a stormtrooper stained glass window, and Vader would line the walls of his church with an army of these, and perhaps images of the Death Star and the extermination of Alderaan.

This awesome stained glass window was made by artist Donna Terraza, and measures a substantial 22.5″ by 43.5″, so it’s almost life-sized. And before you go complaining about the helmet design, this thing is based on CC-1138 (aka Clone Marshal Commander Bacara) – who looked exactly like this.

Can you imagine if you had a glass front door, and installed this thing behind the glass? How cool would that be? I bet you’d never get unwanted solicitors coming to your front door again.

The window shown here has already been sold, but you can order one custom made over on Etsy for $710(USD). You hear that, Lord Vader?

TARDIS Control Room Looks Awesomer on the Inside

I’ve always wanted to make my own TARDIS console, with the rest of the controls around it, so when I saw this awesome TARDIS control room, it blew me away. Crazyfoalrus (aka Jayman White) did an amazing job creating his own TARDIS-themed room.
tardis console
It took him a year to build, and that’s probably why it looks so great. You’ll see the fourth Doctor’s coat rack with scarf, a trippy handpainted checkerboard floor, all kinds of gadgets (including a synthesizer keyboard) on the console itself and a really nice column in the middle. The column and the console all light up and are ready for travel through time and space.

tardis console 1
I’m not sure when Jayman is taking his first voyage in this thing, but I hope he doesn’t run into any Daleks. Hit this link for more images. Great job, Jayman!

How Disney Might Update Star Wars Characters

Now that Disney has purchased Lucasfilm, you might be wondering what sort of stuff we might expect from this $4 billion marriage. While there’s word of Episode VII (and possibly VIII and IX) finally going into production, there are also some less-than-exciting possibilities – like these reimagined, Disnified versions of Star Wars characters by illustrator John Martz.

disney lucasfilm

Though I do think the R2-D2/Wall-E and Ewok/Poo concepts could actually be improvements upon the original characters, I’m not too keen on Yoda with Mickey Mouse ears, or Slave Ariel. And I’m not even going to mention Jar-Jar Goofy.

Oh, and I know you’re thinking it. Han slurped first.
