Epic Star Wars Cake is Epic

Sometimes you can’t just pick one favorite character from the Star Wars movies. Who says you have to? At least that’s the idea that one baker had when creating what could be the most awesome Star Wars cake ever. Ok, it’s not as incredibly crafted as the full-size Stormtrooper and Darth Vader cakes, but it’s still pretty great.

This single cake combines Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Yoda into a single, epic cake masterpiece. Nobody seems to know who made this amazing cake, but whoever you are, I bend the knee to you. The only thing missing are Boba Fett and Stormtrooper layers but I suppose you could always pick those up here.

Amigurumi TIE Fighter and AT-AT Crush the Rebel Alliance with Cuteness

It’s my theory that part of the reason the Empire had so much trouble taking down the Rebel Alliance and Jedi was that they just weren’t nice enough. You know what they say “kill ‘em with kindness” and all. Well if I were flying along in an X-Wing or a Snowspeeder, I’d be much more likely to be pulled in close to have a look at them if they looked as cute and cuddly as these.

These amigurumi crocheted TIE fighter and AT-AT are about as darling as Star Wars stuff can get, and sure to charm the pants off of Rogue Leader and Red Five all at once. And yes, I know they’re the same person, but that just sounded good.

These designs were created by Etsy artist Ana of MysteriousCats, who offers them up as patterns for you to crochet yourself, or if you’re lucky, you might find an already assembled one in her shop. The patterns will run you about $8 (USD), while a complete AT-AT sells for about $33. Ana’s also got designs in her shop for an X-Wing fighter, the Millenium Falcon, if you’re more into the Light Side, and a Naboo Starfighter if you can’t make up your mind which side you’re on. She’s also got one of these…

Stained Glass Starship Enterprise: Glass, The Final Frontier

Over the years, we’ve come across some unusually geeky stained glass items, and the latest to pop up over on Etsy is this handmade glass Starship Enterprise.

starship enterprise stained glass

It was made by artist Patricia Meehand, using fused and stained glass pieces, and is a pretty solid replica of Captain Kirk’s ship. Though I have to say the “NOC-1701″ is bugging me. Isn’t that supposed to read “NCC-1701?” It’s still a cool piece if you’re not a stickler for accuracy. And we all know that Trekkies can let something like this slide. Or maybe not.

The glasswork is set into an 18-1/2″ x 23″ black picture frame, and would look great hanging in a window or with lights behind it. If you want it, have Scotty beam you over to Etsy, where you can grab it for $200 (USD).

Next Time on Doctor Who: Dinosaurs on a Wedding Cake

I’m sorry guys, but that Dinosaurs on a Spaceship episode of Doctor Who… not so great IMHO. But if there is one good thing that came from that episode, it is this awesome mini episode called Dinosaurs on a Wedding Cake.

TARDIS Wedding Cake

They didn’t waste any time getting this cake made so soon after the episode. It looks like the entire thing is edible, even the rocks and sand. It was made by the Butter End Cakery. Obviously that isn’t the Doctor and Amy popping their heads out of the TARDIS. I assume that it’s the bride and groom.

Seriously guys, this cake is much better than the episode it’s based on. It’s twice as intelligent and twice as filling.

Spock + Soccer = Spocker?

While much of the world knows the game with a round black and white ball as “football,” here in the U.S., we call the game “soccer.” So this picture of multiple Spocks dressed up in soccer uniforms probably only makes sense here, in Canada and maybe Australia. Er, actually, it doesn’t make sense at all.

But that doesn’t mean the image doesn’t make me giggle like a little schoolgirl. There’s just something so silly about this image by artist Tommervik that I want to make it the wallpaper on my computer now.

But if your ambitions are greater than desktop wallpaper, you can pick up an 11×14 canvas print of this goofy image over on Etsy for $140(USD). It’ll look great alongside that Mona Lisa you picked up a couple of years back.

Miniature Star Wars Terrariums Land You on Tatooine, Endor, Dagobah, Where’s My Hoth Snowglobe?

Star Wars fans, here’s a fun accessory to place on your desktop or bookshelf. It’s a series of handmade terrariums, each depicting a scenic location from one of the Star Wars films.

They’re made by Tony Larson (aka ‘Megatone230′) of The Wonder Room, and you can choose from a scene with Yoda chilling out in a Dagobah moss garden, R2-D2 (or mini R2-D2) searching for Obi-Wan on Tatooine, or a cuddly Ewok getting ready to take down some speeder bikes on the forest planet of Endor.

I just want him to make me a tiny snowglobe with a scene of snowspeeder taking down an AT-AT.

Each one is lovingly handmade to order, and prices range from $95 to $105(USD) for the little dioramas. Be sure to check out the other scenes over on The Wonder Room’s Etsy shop too. The Ancient Goddess Ruins ($200) is pretty epic, and reminds me of God of War for some reason. I wonder why…

Seiko Star Wars Watches: Force Time!

Seiko Japan recently took wraps off a whole series of new watches based on the Star Wars saga, and there are some really awesome timepieces in the collection. While most of the series has traditional analog movements, the R2-D2 watch is all digital, and features a very cool hi-res display.

The limited-edition Seiko Brightz R2-D2 watch is the geekiest of the collection, featuring a 300dpi black and white screen which can display scenes from the Star Wars films. But if you’re in the market for a more timeless design, you might want to check out one of the other watch designs, which include Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Stormtrooper models with a dramatic black band, as well as a gold-accented C-3PO and green-tinged Yoda watch. The Vader model is even embellished with tiny diamonds.

All of these beautiful watches are limited-editions ranging from 500 to 1500 pieces, and are not for those with limited budgets. Prices for the series range from 136,500 to 141,750 (~$1739 to $1805 USD), though you can find them for a little less over on Amazon Japan(JP). I found one of the R2-D2 watches going for $1450 over on eBay too.

Star Trek Warp Drive is Plausible!

This is the most awesome bit of science news I’ve heard in a long time. Scientists have determined that a warp drive similar to what the Enterprise used to get around the universe is actually more plausible than previously thought. Back in 1994, a Mexican physicist named Miguel Alcubierre proposed a spacecraft that had a ring around a football-shaped craft.

warp drive

The idea was that the ring, constructed from exotic matter, would warp space-time around ship creating contracted space in front and expanded space behind, pushing the craft at faster-than-light speeds without breaking the cosmic speed limit, about ten times the speed of light. The problem was that further research concluded that the spacecraft would need a minimum amount of energy equal to the mass-energy of Jupiter.

Further investigation by scientist Harold White from the NASA Johnson Space Center has determined that the needed amount of energy is actually much less than previously believed – with a few tweaks to the design of the ship. Rather than using a flat ring, White proposed a ring shaped like a rounded doughnut and determined that using that shape the warp drive could be powered by a mass about the size of the spacecraft like the Voyager 1 probe. White also said that by oscillating the intensity of the space warps the energy could be reduced even more. As a result of White’s recent findings, further research will be conducted on the possibility of warp travel.

Dalek Purse Exterminates All Other Handbags

Doctor Who seems to be in the midst of a major renaissance of late. I can’t go a day lately without coming across some sort of awesome Doctor Who inspired craft, like this Dalek purse.

dalek purse 1

This strikingly accurate and detailed Dalek handbag was made by Krukru Studio (who also happens to make a TARDIS bag.) The handmade felt bag measures about 13.8″ tall, 9.4″ wide at the bottom, and 4.7″ wide at the top. While its odd shape and size isn’t exactly the most practical for carrying lots of stuff around, it should work pretty well for toting around  your wallet, a couple of lipsticks, and your Sonic Screwdriver.

So if you’re read to purge the universe of all your other purses, grab the Dalek purse now over on Etsy for $190(USD).

Timey Wimey Jell-O in a Jar, There’s Always Room for Doctor Who

Everyone loves Jell-O. Heck, even the Doctor loves him some Jell-O, as well as fish fingers, custard, and Jammie Dodgers of course. This special Doctor Who Jell-O will give you a nice, wibbly wobbly snack for that Who marathon you are planning.
doctor who jell o jar
If you you want to make your own galaxy in a jar, made of Jell-O, you can find the recipe at Bakingdom. You see, it looks like a galaxy. In a jar.

The TARDIS as well as Doctor and companion figures are optional. You don’t need them to enjoy this treat, it just makes it taste even better when you have props. I wonder if the TARDIS would get stuck in a Jell-O universe or just keep going.
