Guy Builds Awesome Scale Model of Alien Space Jockey

H.R. Giger’s creations in the Alien universe are some of the most awesome, iconic and creepy designs in the history of moviemaking. Now you can own your very own Space Jockey, just like the one in the original Alien.

Artist Dave Tootill says he’s been working on this amazing 1/8th scale model for about 900 hours, spread out over over two years. Tootill made the Space Jockey sculpture using DAS modeling clay, plastic sheets, rods, tubes, dowels, a model skull, and other bits and bobs.

Once the sculpting was complete, Dave handpainted it – much like H.R. Giger did himself when dressing the set for the original film.

It’s currently for sale over on Etsy for just under $9,000(USD), but due to its size, Dave will only ship it to a buyer in the United Kingdom.

You can read all about the build and the effort that went into this incredible creation over on his Space Jockey website.

What the hell is this weird alien looking spiral in the desert?

What the hell is this weird alien looking spiral in the desert?

Like the remains of a long lost human civilization, this formidable structure in the remote plains of El Gouna, Egypt extends over one million square feet in the Sahara Desert. It’s so big that you can see it from space—like some sort of stargate ready for an alien invasion.

Step Inside A Giant Kaleidoscope in Iowa

Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson is a master of light and color, creating trippy experiential works that mess with our perception. The artist’s latest piece, recently installed at the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines, Iowa, is like walking inside a human-scaled spectrograph.

Forensics Reveal the Face of Crystal Head Vodka

You know how forensic artists are. They can’t pass up an opportunity to take a skull and see what it looked like when it was alive. They might even be curious to see what the skull-shaped bottle of Crystal Head Vodka looked like, had it been living. Forensic artist Nigel Cockerton was just this curious.

So he got a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka and went to work, wondering just what that laughing face would look like covered with muscle, eyes, and skin.

The results are kind of what you would expect. It looks like a drunk guy laughing his ass off.

So now you have a face to think about when you are drinking straight from this bottle. As you drink, you are going to look more and more like this guy too.

These Glowing Dogs Are Made From Trash Pulled From the Ocean

These Glowing Dogs Are Made From Trash Pulled From the Ocean

Alaska has a trash problem. As you probably noticed in the aftermath of the Japanese Earthquake, America’s northernmost state happens to be the dumping grounds for all the garbage the Pacific Ocean doesn’t want. Now, an industrious artist is drawing attention to the problem.

Call of Duty Ghosts Riley Figurine: Such Sculpture

Etsy shop BabbitsBoutique is selling this awesome handmade figurine of Riley, the fictional German Shepherd more famously known as the Call of Duty: Ghosts dog. He looks kind of harmless here though. He doesn’t exactly look like the sort of animal who can take down a helicopter. Not that any animal looks like that.

The shop says the figurine is 5″ high and was “[s]culpted from Super Sculpey polymer clay over a wire armature for durability, painted with acrylics, and sprayed with a matte sealer for protection.”

The figurine was handmade, and I don’t know if BabbitsBoutique will make more of them. So it’s time to work, Ghosts squad. Jump and shoot your way to Etsy and order Riley for $150 (USD).

Bigfoot Found!

If you had bet me that there would someday be two shows about finding Bigfoot on TV at the same time, you would have won that bet soundly. But here we are, and Sasquatch is bigger and hairier than ever. Now I wish I were on that 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty show, because I’ve just found the beast.

Unfortunately, this “life-size” Bigfoot is only a bust, so that probably doesn’t count for the $10 million prize. This detailed replica of the elusive, yet non-existent creature was made by DougFX, and is crafted from rubber, polyurethane foam, fake fur and glass eyes – which I have on good authority is what actual Bigfeets are made from. And lollipops.

Actually, this replica is based on the 1967 Patterson/Gimlin film of a Bigfoot nicknamed “Patty”

This monstrous Bigfoot bust can be yours for the low low price of $1500(USD). I guess if I had the money to spare, I’d actually consider buying one, if only so I could have my own reality show.

Krang Belt Buckle: Waist Clan

Villain in a buckle, alien power! Let the disembodied villain use you as his exo-suit. Freakshop proprietor Christopher Genovese made this awesome oversized belt buckle featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’s sworn enemy. I’m not sure how large the buckle is exactly, but it’s probably as large as a child’s head.

Christopher made the buckle out of urethane resin. Then he painted it by hand and finished it with a polyurethane clear coat.

Christopher can also add a mount to Krang if you’d rather hang him on a wall, but unless you have a person hanging on your wall, what fun is that?

Activate the Technodrome and head to Freakshop to order the buckle. It costs $190 (USD) and is made to order, so give Christoper one to three weeks to make you one.

Tour the Hidden Art Gallery on the High Line’s Last Unfinished Stretch

Tour the Hidden Art Gallery on the High Line's Last Unfinished Stretch

It’s easy to forget that beyond the tourist- and greenery-covered High Line, there are still 300 yards of old, rusting train track. This last patch of decaying NYC railway will soon be turned into the final stretch of the super-successful park—but for now, they’re home to a little-known outdoor gallery.
