iOcean X8 Has Autofocus Front Camera

iOcean X8 Has Autofocus Front CameraIt does not matter whether you agree as to snapping selfies being a mental disorder when you take a look at the iOcean X8 smartphone. This particular handset might not be popular or even heard of outside of China, but it does carry one very important feature that selfie lovers absolutely cannot live without, and wished that it appeared on smartphones from other manufacturers. The iOcean X8 is touted to be the very first smartphone that sports a 5MP front facing camera that has auto-focus capability.

It makes sense, really, and it also does beg the question – how come other smartphone manufacturers have not done to same to date? Most of the time, the front facing camera is an inferior version of the one at the back, so to see the iOcean X8 improve on this particular staple feature on modern day smartphones is definitely extremely encouraging.

Other hardware specifications of the iOcean X8 include a 5.7-inch 1080p display, an octa-core MediaTek CPU, a Mali-450 GPU, 2GB RAM, a 14MP camera at the back, a 2560mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box. Unfortunately, it does not seem as though the Ocean X8 is going to make its way outside of China anytime soon.

Dronies! Drone-Selfies Are a Thing!

I have to admit when I first heard of drone selfies, I thought that actual drones were taking selfies of themselves.

drone selfies 620x224magnify

That seemed a bit odd, but it made a lot more sense when I saw Amit Gupta’s drone selfie video. It simply blew my mind. The zoom out is quite amazing.

There are now a few more dronies popping up – so it’s almost sort of a thing now. The trick of a good dronie is to find a good location, because otherwise it just looks ordinary.

I like the overall look captured by the dronies as well. You can see so much detail when the drone zips away.

“Ellen Seflie” Now A Painting At Twitter HQ

“Ellen Seflie” Now A Painting At Twitter HQThe word “seflie” had its best moment last year, ending up as the Word of the Year, at least according to Oxford Dictionaries. Since then, there were also some downs (such as the act of capturing selfies being associated with a mental disorder), despite the fact that this Ellen selfie snapped at this year’s Oscars ended up being the most tweeted photo to date. Well, what a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 captured for posterity has been transformed into a painting, and it has been hung over at the Twitter headquarters.

    SELFIE Mirror Shoots Seflies

iStrategyLabs might have struck gold with their latest invention that actually captures selfies. Yes sir, this particular device is known as the Self Enhancing Live Feed Imagine Engine, or SELFIE in short – you see what they did there? The SELFIE happens to be a two way mirror that runs on a Mac mini, and whenever it detects a smile for a couple of seconds, it will then snap a photo of yourself. It does seem as though iStrategyLabs see plenty of potential in the SELFIE mirror to be installed in public premises such as bars.

American digital agency iStrategyLabs’ Chief Marketing Officer DJ Saul shared, ‘We had some funny things like it would locate a smile on the side of your head, so we played around until we were comfortable. We also considered photos being triggered by a wink, but we went with a smile as it fit with the narrative a bit more for a smiling selfie.” That sounds about right, and it is rather unfortunate that the company has yet to pencil out plans in order to make it commercially available.

The Mac mini computer that powers SELFIE will run a facial recognition software known as Open CV. The webcam will be able to detect a smile, where LEDs controlled by Arduino will then light up vertically on the mirror to indicate that it is about to snap your photo, where after that, a tweet with your image is created.

    ‘Selfie’ Gets Body Image Warning

Selfie Gets Body Image WarningI am quite sure that at one point or another in your life, you would have most probably snapped a photo of yourself, where it is otherwise known as a selfie, getting into trouble every now and then. Now, selfies are fine and dandy when it is just you, but try not to ruffle feathers by posing with your country’s leader next to you. Researchers at the University of Strathclyde, Ohio University and University of Iowa surveyed 881 female college students in the US, where the ladies were asked to answer some questions concerning their Facebook usage pattern, exercise as well as eating regimes, and one’s body image. Basically, the research suggests that if you spend plenty of time on Facebook to ogle and your friends’ photos, it has a high tendency of letting the ladies feel insecure about how they look like in the eyes of others.

Selfies Considered To Be A Mental Disorder, According To American Psychiatric Association

Selfies Considered To Be A Mental Disorder, According To American Psychiatric AssociationBefore the “selfie” term was coined, many people were already figuring out ways to take photos of themselves, whether it be with digital cameras, smartphones, or even film cameras back in the day. Safe to say “selfies” aren’t exactly new per se. However with the term having been officially coined, it seems that there is now a mental disorder associated with it as well.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, the act of taking a selfie can be considered a mental disorder. The disorder has been labeled selfitis and is defined as an obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of oneself and publish it onto social media, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and so on. Watch this girl draw a shockingly perfect picture of the Ellen selfie

Man, talent is talented. Watch fantastic artist Heather Rooney draw an amazingly photorealistic picture of the famous Ellen Oscars selfie. You know the one with a billion celebrities that got retweeted a billion times. All she used was Prismacolor colored pencils to turn a blank sheet of paper into what looks exactly like a photo.

LEGO Oscar Selfie Is Better Than the Real Thing

If you watched the Oscars, you are probably familiar with the selfie that was taken at the show with Ellen DeGeneres and a bunch of other famous people in the pic. That wasn’t so much a spontaneous selfie as it was blatant product placement for Samsung. I’d say whatever it cost Samsung was money well spent.

Being a sucker for anything cool made from LEGOs, I happen to think this LEGO recreation of that famous selfie is better than the real thing. Can someone tell me if that is Kid or Play there blocking Angelina? I am pretty sure that hand in the air is her about to crush his skull.

The LEGO parody was created by an artist called Iain Heath from The Living Brick. It took him 12 hours to build and he stated work the day after the Oscars. Heath said, “As soon as an image that interests me begins to go viral, I rush to my LEGO collection, do a fast build, get it online as quickly as possible and ride the wave.”

    Ellen’s Oscar Selfie Goes Lego

Ellen-selfie Ellen Degeneres' selfieApparently, when Ellen DeGeneres asks us to do something we do it. As the whole world knows, Ellen took a selfie at the Oscars with some of the major movie stars in the audience. She asked everyone to retweet it so she could set a record. Which at 3,302,695 retweets on Twitter, we are sure a record was set.

Then we heard about this LEGO artist, Ochre Jelly (Iain Heath), who replicated the picture with LEGO’s. As you can see from the picture above it is not the ‘pre-made’ little LEGO dudes that you can buy and change up their hair. He actually created this one LEGO at a time. The time an effort that some people put into their hobbies is amazing.

Forget about Ellen Degeneres and forget about this astronaut. This is the most awesome selfie, not theirs: A Royal Danish Air Force pilot firing a live air-to-air AIM-9 Sidewinder missile form his F-16 fighter.
