CES 2014 has come and gone, and that was when Sharp of Japan introduced a slew of new HDTVs for the masses under their Aquos branding. Well, we are glad to bring you word that some of the announced devices have started to become available for purchase for those of us living in the good ol’ US of A. For instance, the Sharp Quattron+ range can be purchased if you have the right amount of money, which happens to comprise of a bunch of 2014 Aquos televisions which will boast of the latest technology from Sharp within, where among them include a revamped SmartCentral platform. Not only that, the Quattron+ technology that has been thrown into the mix has been described by Sharp to be able to “accept a 4K signal and play it back at near-4K resolution, with an effective resolution of 3,840 x 2,160.”

Sharp has showed off their newest Android 4.2 tablet in Japan namely the AQUOS PAD SHT22. The tablet features a 7.0-inch IGZO 1920 x 1200 display, a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, a 2GB RAM, a 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot (up to 64GB), dual cameras (2.1MP CMOS front & 13.1MP CMOS rear), NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, a 4080mAh battery and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. Sharp has always been at the forefront of display technology, even more so when it comes to its range of smartphones and tablets. Well, if you have seen an IGZO display in real life, you would most probably be blown away by what you see, and their latest handset to hit the market comes in the form of the Aquos mini SHL24. Just where does the “mini” bit come in? I suppose this is due to its 4.5″ 1080p display, not to mention the inclusion of an EDGEST design, which is more or less a minimized level of thickness in its bezel from three sides – and they are on the left, right, and top.

At what point does a tablet with a large screen stop becoming a tablet, but more of a laptop with a touchscreen display? We’re not sure ourselves but Sharp is definitely pushing the limits as they have unveiled a tablet that sports a whopping 15.6” display. Based on the advertisement, it seems that the tablet (RW-16G1) will most likely appeal to the enterprise user, such as designers who might appreciate having a larger display, versus the regular consumer who might find it difficult to carry such a larger device around with them on the go. Sharp has been showing off an 85-inch 8K TV for years, and now the company is taking absurdly high-resolution to an ambitious new level with a prototype of an 85-inch 8K TV with Dolby glasses free 3D. That’s a lot of unproven tech in one concept.

4K is great, but it’s also expensive. Getting cheaper, but still a pretty penny. Sharp’s new Aquos Quattron Plus is another option: a super high resolution HD TV that’s not quite 4K, but that can play 4K content. It’s a Faux-K TV.

[CES 2014] Every year at CES, companies are eager to push the limits to technology and have never been shy about unveiling new television products. Sometimes these products are bigger and better than we might have expected and we guess this is more about showing off what they can do, as opposed to trying to sell it to us. After all, not everyone can afford a whopping 100” television set, can then? Well Sharp will be at CES 2014 this year and sure enough the company is looking to impress with several high-end television sets, ranging from televisions featuring 8K displays, to televisions sporting Sharp’s IGZO display technology.
