If the Back to the Future Shoes Were Made Today, They Would Look Like This

The Nike MAG, which we lovingly know as the Back to the Future shoes, always had the aww-inducing charm of the 80’s. Even though they were meant to represent style of 2015, the shoes were totally retro futuristic. These Nikes though? They look as if the Back to the Future shoes were invented in 2012. More »

Scary/Beautiful: Backwards High Heels Look Painfully Strange

There are a lot of trends nowadays that are beyond strange. I’m sure you’ve seen fashion bloggers posing in oftentimes ridiculous-looking ‘heelless’ shoes, right? One step further than that are shoes with backwards heels.

I kid you not. They actually exist.

Aside from the fact that they look extremely uncomfortable, the shoes are humongous. I don’t know how the model managed to stand, let alone pose, in them because they honestly just look painful to wear. She was probably tiptoeing the whole time. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the model wasn’t able to walk in them  – no, rather, they only allowed her to kind of waddle.

These shoes, aptly called ‘Scary Beautiful’, weren’t made for public consumption though. Rather, they were designed and meant to be perceived as a work of art by Leanie van der Vyver and René van den Berg.

In their own words, the duo explain: “Beauty is currently at an all time climax, allowing this project to explore what lies beyond perfection. Scary Beautiful challenges current beauty ideals by inflicting an unexpected new beauty standard.”

Don’t Worry, These Ugly Rubber Slippers Will Rot Away In Six Months

Would you spend $13 on a pair of rubber slippers that start to rot away the second you open the packaging? How Can You Eat with Your Teeth on Your Feet?

A lot of people I know play it safe when it comes to their outfit choices because they don’t think they can pull off the more fashionable or edgy look. But if there’s one thing I learned, it’s that being ‘fashionable’ doesn’t mean you have to totally be out there.

In fact, you can still be outrageous subtly, as these tooth-soled shoes will allow you to be when you put them on.

Tooth Shoes1These shoes by British studio Fantich and Young look like your typical pair of black shoes when viewed from above, but take a closer look and you’ll see that all is not normal. Instead of a rubber sole, these shoes are lined with teeth at the bottom.

They’re fake teeth, thankfully, so no humans were harmed in the making of these shoes. Regardless, they’re still pretty hard to stomach.

Tooth Shoes

What do you think? Can you replace your old Oxfords with these this tooth-lined pair (it’s called the ‘Apex Predator’ shoe by the way, which is as apt as names can get.) It’s not for sale though so if you want a pair for Halloween, you’ll have to make your own.

Murata Walking Measurement System hands-on

Sure, Nike+ will track your gait and help you tell your friends just how that couch-to-2K training is working for ya, but wouldn’t it be nice if it your shoes were smarter? That’s partly what Murata is enabling with its Walking Measurement System, on display at CEATEC 2012. It’s a piezoelectric sensor that sits in the sole of your shoe and detects pressure at different points. The readings from this sensor, transmitted over low-power Bluetooth 4.0, could enable a number of applications including precise shoe fitting for runners, posture detection for dancers and even golf swing analysis for duffers. Murata had this built into a lovely pink Asics sneaker that was a bit too small for us to try on, but we did try squeezing another sensor that fed its data in real-time to an app running on iPhone. Cool concept? For sure, but for now it’s just that and nothing more.
