Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare Release Date Announced

PopCap Games is the developer behind the very popular mobile game franchise Plants vs. Zombies. During E3 this year PopCap and EA announced that a new game would be coming in the franchise aimed at console gamers called Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare.

This game is very different from the others in the PvZ franchise. Garden Warfare is a third-person shooter supporting multiplayer action. The game is based on the Frostbite 3 game engine and will hit the Xbox 360 and Xbox One game consoles on February 18 in North America.

The game will land in Europe on February 20. A PC version of the game will be coming later. The game has three modes and over ten maps for gamers to play. Two of the modes support 12 vs. 12 player versus battles. The other mode is a four-play co-op mode. The game will cost $39.99(USD) on the Xbox One and $29.99 on the Xbox 360 (which is kind of stupid that they’re charging more for the Xbox One version).

Pencils Are Even More Deadly When They’re Actually Steel Nails

The thing I appreciate about The Slingshot Channel is that it always brings projects two or three iterations past what I would ever think to pursue. The pencil shooter Joerg made last week was more of a curiosity. Not the most deadly thing we’ve seen by a long shot. See what I did there?

An Extracurricular And Deadly Use For Pencils

I wouldn’t say using pencils as zombie-killing projectiles would be my first thought, but if you do enough slingshot-ing I guess it makes sense that you would eventually run up against office supplies as a source of inspiration. Joerg updates his pencil shooter to be crank operated and more efficient. It can shoot two pencils at a time for a total of 16 in one magazine. And Joerg sees potential for use with a power drill instead of "muscle operated action" aka humans. Leave the pencil shooter going while you run away from the zombies. Solid plan.

New Dead Space 3 Game Modes Encourage Replay After You Finish the Game

Considering I’m a huge fan of science fiction, first person shooters, and video games, on paper you would expect me to enjoy the Dead Space franchise. In reality, I’ve never been a big fan of the series. There are a lot of people out there who love the franchise though, and its third installment is set to launch very soon. Ahead of launch the developers are offering up a few interesting new details on the game.

Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis has revealed that the game will have four additional difficulty modes that will only unlock after players beat the game one time. Two of these new modes will include Classic and Hardcore. Classic mode removes the new game’s crosshairs and resource management system to make it feel and play more like past games in the series. The Hardcore mode gives players only a single life for the entire campaign. Yikes.

Game+ mode lets you play through the game again with all of your weapons and arsenal that you finished the game with. DS3 will also feature an interesting Pure Survival mode where the players have to craft everything they use from ammo to health and weapons. In this mode there are no resources hidden around the map. That sounds like a cool challenge. Papoutsis also said that after launch the game would get new downloadable content. He wouldn’t give up any details of exactly what be in that DLC, but he said think “disturbing” to get an idea of what may be coming.

Dead Space 3 releases on February 5, 2013 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Text-Based Multiplayer Shooter: Zork of Duty

Halo 4 just came out, and there’s never any shortage of multiplayer shooters available, but if you’ve already topped the leaderboard, fragged everyone, topped the fragleader or boarded everyone – my expertise regarding the current state of multiplayer combat games is, shall we say, non-existent – why not have a go at this text-based multiplayer shooter?

This text-based multiplayer shooter is called… Text-based Multiplayer Shooter. It plays like the text-based adventure and role-playing games from the 70′s and 80′s. You type ‘go <direction>’ to move – e.g. go south – and then ‘fire’ to take a shot. As you can see I managed to hit a wall. Woohoo! Wall pwned! Here’s a more thorough look at the game courtesy of YouTuber CyBorg Plague (along with an ample does of swearing):

It’s the most frantic way to learn how to touch type. You can play Text-based Multiplayer Shooter for free on Eigen Lenk’s website. Bring your imagination with you.

Why Young Kids Shouldn’t Play Online Shooters

Little kids are easily influenced by what they see and hear. I hear that professionals recommend that parents keep their babies away from TVs until they’re two years old, but many parents don’t really do that anymore nowadays. But I think what parents should do is keep their young tots from playing online shooter games.

Kids and Online ShootersWhy? Well, aside from giving them the wrong ideas about the value of life, they’re generally violent and don’t really teach your child anything (except the wrong things.) Never mind that older gamers find these kids pretty annoying, and you can check out the short clip below to find out why (Language NSFW):
