Facebook launches new Gifts service

As it stands, you can do a lot with Facebook. You can stalk your ex-lovers, you can show the world pictures of what you’ll be eating for dinner, and you can annoy almost every single one of your Facebook friends at the same time by constantly posting statuses of a political nature. Soon, you’ll be able to buy your friends real world gifts though Facebook with a new service called – you guessed it – Facebook Gifts.

Announced today, Facebook Gifts allows you to purchase a gift for any of your Facebook friends and have it delivered to their door. Did your friend just have a baby? Buy them a teddy bear. Did your friend just get dumped? Buy them a batch of cupcakes. Perhaps you have a friend who can’t function without caffeine? Good news for them, because it appears that Starbucks gift cards are available through this service as well.

Once Facebook Gifts has been fully implemented, you can buy a gift for your friends through birthday or engagement notifications or directly through their timeline. You don’t need to know their address as they’ll be the one who enters it in, and bad gift givers have no reason to fear – recipients will be able to choose the size, color, and flavor of their gift, and if they really don’t like it, they can exchange it out for something of equal value.

Facebook says that this new gifts service will roll out gradually, but those in the US will be getting it first. There isn’t a time frame for the full roll out of Facebook Gifts, likely owing to the social network‘s nearly 1 billion users around the world. Facebook promises more information on Gifts soon, so we’ll update you once new details are made public!

Amazon’s New Shopping Site Is Tailor Made for Hippies [Amazon]

Amazon launches Vine.com shopping site for environmental activists

If you love Amazon (especially their free two-day shipping for Prime members) and are environmentally friendly, Amazon has launched a website just for you. Vine.com is a shopping site that only sells organic and environmental-friendly products. The site sells all sorts of fun stuff, from organic groceries all the way to all-natural skin care products.

Vine.com sells pretty much anything, as long as its all-natural, organic, or environmentally friendly in some way. This means that in order for an item to show up on Vine’s website, it must fall into at least one of these categories: ability to remove toxins, energy-efficient, natural, organic, powered by renewable energy, reusable, made of sustainable materials or water-efficient.

The site’s frontman, Josh Dorfman, says that Vine “is a site that is not necessarily about saving the planet, though we feel the products are useful in that regard.” We know he’s being slightly modest, but he raises a good point. He mentions that “if you care about raising safe and healthy kids, and you feel green products without chemicals can help along the way, we’ve figured out ways to help you do that.”

Vine.com is a part of Quidsi, which is a company that Amazon has owned since 2010. They run other websites like Diapers.com, Wag.com, and YoYo.com. And like Amazon, customers will have a shot at free two-day shipping, thanks to the robots that pack boxes in the warehouse within minutes of receiving an online order.

Amazon launches Vine.com for shoppers who live life on the ‘green’ edge

Amazon launches Vinecom for shoppers who live life on the 'green' edge

Love Amazon’s renowned two-day shipping? How about organic eats and other miscellaneous environment-friendly products? If so, then today’s your very lucky day. Adding to the endless list of shopping sites it already owns, Amazon has just introduced Vine.com; a site which aims to be a one-stop web store for folks looking to snag anything from organic ingredients to beauty products like all-natural shaving oils and Kiss My Face foam soaps — and yes, as we stated earlier, there’s an option to get that speedy two-day delivery service. While chatting with Bits Blog, a Vine representative said the goal isn’t “necessarily about saving the planet,” but that his team does “feel the products are useful in that regard.” Currently Vine.com is live in beta form, though that doesn’t mean folks interested can’t go browse around and order some goodies — to do that, give the source link below a quick tap.

Tech 101: When and Why You Should Buy Refurbished Electronics

Refurbished Electronics

A lot of people say that refurbished goods aren’t for them. The reason for that is they have misconceptions on the quality, durability, and functionality of refurbished items. But the fact of the matter is this: just because it’s been ‘fixed up’ or ‘repaired’ doesn’t mean that it won’t last long.
