Skullcandy introduces Women’s headphones and earbuds collection

skullcandy-womensWhen it comes to headphones and earphones, this particular industry seems to settle comfortably into a unisex mindset, ranging from its fit to acoustics and design. Well, Skullcandy, ever the innovator, intends to turn things on its head by introducing a range of products that will feature reimagined acoustics, engineering, and industrial design. We are talking about the extremely functional yet relentlessly forward Skullcandy Women’s collection that was specially developed via careful thought and extensive research, having drawn inspiration from within Skullcandy’s very own team of Olympic and Athlete Ambassadors, where among them include the talented pro-snowboarder Kimmy Fasani and pro-surfer Leila Hurst. This particular collection would be a representation of youth, passion, strength, and singularity of the female consumer market.

Michelle Whitehead, Skullcandy’s Director of Brand and Sports Marketing shared, “The truth is there are real anatomical, acoustical, and behavioral differences in how male and female consumers experience our product. Our goal was to understand these differences well enough to design products, from the ground up, that would legitimately improve the audio experience for our female consumer. We are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished.”

All three products, the Knockout, Bombshell, and Dime, did include acoustics, comfort, materialization, fit, and even hygiene during the development process. Apart from that, the collection’s audio drivers have also been custom-tuned to reflect field research that supports the fact that both women and men hear differently (no doubt about that!), as Skullcandy engineers worked round the clock in order to come up with what they deem is the perfect headband fit for the ladies, in addition to earbud size and shape.

Fine tuned and specially engineered for women, this range will be further complimented by premium fabrics and materialization. There are floral prints, rose gold finishes, and subtle stud embellishments which happen to be bold fashion-forward aesthetics that will add a dash of feminine edge to the predominantly unisex category, functioning as a mirror to what female consumers and their unique styles and perspectives carry. Expect Skullcandy Women’s to have launched in the U.S. already, where it will cost anywhere from $29.99 to $99.99, depending on the model that you choose.

Skullcandy Air Raid Bluetooth Speaker

Skullcandy Air Raid Bluetooth SpeakerAnother day, another Bluetooth speaker is introduced to the fold of ever growing products and devices, and this time around, we have Skullcandy that has just recently announced their Air Raid Bluetooth speaker. Skullcandy has been around for quite some time already, being famous for rolling out audio gear such as headphones and earbuds that ooze with quality, so a slight departure from their bread and butter to a Bluetooth speaker is definitely more than welcome.

The Skullcandy Air Raid Bluetooth speaker will come in the form of a ruggedized box which will be fitted with a couple of 50mm drivers, where it will also be accompanied by a battery that is capable of holding a charge for up to 14 hours. In fact, it has been described to be “built like a tank and loud as hell.” Skullcandy is more than happy to announce that their new Air Raid happens to be a whole lot louder than the competition, who claims that it is 200% and 33% noisier compared to its rivals, the Jambox and Beats Pill, respectively.

The asking price for this particular puppy? $150 a pop, so if you have the faith (and the money, of course) to drop such an amount of coin, do let us know how the experience is.

Skullcandy Rolls Out Eric Koston Signature Series Crusher Headphones

Skullcandy Rolls Out Eric Koston Signature Series Crusher HeadphonesSkullcandy is a name that is well known for churning out some pretty interesting and decent headsets in the past, and it does not seem as though it will stop doing so in the near future. Not especially when you have the latest Crusher headphones from Skullcandy, which was released as part of Eric Koston’s Signature series of headphones. Here is a little bit of background information on Eric Koston – he turned pro in 1992, and has made quite an impact on street skating. Koston was also the co-founder of skateboarding’s leading contest site, the Berrics, alongside fellow Skullcandy athlete Steve Berra.

Not only that, Eric’s enterprising nature also saw him start Fourstar, another top clothing brand in the industry. As for the Crusher, what kind of performance can one expect from it? For starters, it delivers punchy and powerful attacking bass that will not drown out the natural vocals and precision highs. Other hardware features include a Mic1 remote, a sensation driver, a REX40 driver, soft touch leather ear pillows, a detachable cable, all packed in an ergonomic design that will be accompanied by a travel bag. The asking price for the Crusher headphones? A relatively affordable $119.99 per pair if you are interested.

IRL: Skullcandy Crusher headphones and ASUS’ G74SX gaming laptop

Welcome to IRL, an ongoing feature where we talk about the gadgets, apps and toys we’re using in real life and take a second look at products that already got the formal review treatment.

It’s true; most Engadget editors would prefer some sort of Ultrabook-type laptop for attending pressers and schlepping around trade shows. But at least one of us has chosen a nine-pound gaming laptop for hitting posts. (It even says “Republic of Gamers” on it.) Speaking of schlepping, Michael has taken back (almost) everything he’s ever said about over-the-ear headphones after swapping in the Skullcandy Crushers on his long commute. Hit the break to find out what he thinks of them.

    Fly Or Die: Skullcandy Crushers

Screen Shot 2013-03-11 at 10.27.18 AM

Skullcandy’s Crusher headphones may not be John’s favorite, but I must applaud the headphone maker for stepping outside the box and doing something different with the Crusher headphones.

The Crushers don’t try to fake a bunch of bass with digital signal processing, but rather use two Sensation55 drivers (one in each ear cup) to trigger a vibration system that gives the sensation of head-rattling bass. Plus, there are two REX40 drivers built in to deliver highs and mids.

I was wrong in the video when I said there was a sub in each ear cup, and John was wrong when he said these are awful headphones, so there are our admissions.

Sure, the Crushers use a gimmick to get their message across, but once you strap in that battery and get to listening, you’re sure to enjoy the same reaction that we had at CES.

To be clear, the Crushers wouldn’t get the same kind of endorsement for me if it wasn’t for the $100 price tag slapped on to these bad boys.

For less than you pay for Beats, Sennhesier, or Bose, you can have the sensation of true, club-style bass direct to your ear, with that same Skullcandy style the company has become known for.

These aren’t meant for the audiophile, musician, or DJ. However, anyone who enjoys over-the-ear audio at an affordable price should check these out. They’ll make you feel like your stroll down the street is a part of a Nicki Minaj music video, and who can put a price on that?

The Crushers come in a number of colors and are available in April for $100 at various retailers and Skullcandy.com.

Just in time for the release of EA’s ultra-creepy Dead Space 3, Skullcandy subsidiary Astro Gaming is introducing themed versions of its A30 and A40 gaming headsets. We Would Not Have Survived CES Without This Gear

New gadgets take the spotlight at CES. And though we’re occasionally blinded by the bright, shiny things, we know where our loyalties lie. Behind the barrage of posts and sprinting between booths, the real stars of the show are the tried and true bits of gear we’re using behind the scenes. Particularly BorrowLenses.com, who generosity is the reason you get to look at all those pretty pictures. But each of us has our own beloved item—tech or otherwise—that we’ll swear is the only reason we made it out of Vegas alive. Spoiler: There are a lot of batteries mentioned in this post. More »

Skullcandy’s Crusher headphones teased, soon to vibrate wubs into your head for $100

DNP Skullcandy's Crusher headphones teased, soon to vibrate wubs into your head for $100

Skullcandy hasn’t made any official headphone-related announcements at CES — but that doesn’t mean there isn’t news to share. We’ve just been tipped about a bass-pumping followup to its non-defunct Skullcrusher headphones, set to release as the Crusher. The circumaural cans are said to be designed and engineered in-house, though they do look similar to Logitech UE’s over-ears. As we understand it, the “crushing sensation” is handled by a vibrating unit inside of each earcup that’s independent from its actual 40mm speaker drivers. Impressively, we’re told that the lowend will still pump out if the battery dies unlike similar offerings, such as Sony’s Pulse gaming headset. An on-earcup control lets you dial in your preferred level of wub, and the earcups can collapse for storage. Naturally, a detachable 3.5mm cable with an inline remote / mic is also included. Expect these to hit shelves during March clad in your choice of black, white or red for a cool 100 bones. That’s all we’ve got for now, so keep it locked to our coverage of the show while we try to spot ’em ourselves.
