Destroy King Joffrey!: #bringdowntheking

Now that I have your attention… Sure, we would all like to kill King Joffrey, but there is only one of him and so many of us. SKY TV in New Zealand has the solution. They have erected a statue of the despicable little brat in a square in Auckland and they’re giving you the chance to help destroy it.

Obviously this is all part of a promotion for Game of Thrones season four. All you have to do is send a tweet with the hashtag #bringdowntheking. As the statue gains attention in real life and online, a medieval winch will be attached to the statue, with a rope around Joffrey’s neck. With each use of the tag #bringdowntheking, the rope will pull tighter around Joffrey’s neck, eventually pulling him to the ground.

If you are interested in bringing this bratty tyrant down and like the idea of a public lynching, head to www.bringdowntheking.com to see live webcams of the action.

Sky and NBC Universal extend content deal with exclusive movie rental window

Sky and NBCUniversal extend content deal, gets exclusive movie rental window

Sky’s war against its VOD rivals could be won before a single shot is fired in anger, thanks to the company’s practice of signing exclusive contracts with major Hollywood players. Today, it’s extended its contract with NBC Universal, giving Sky exclusive distribution rights to the studio’s movies and access to Universal Network’s TV offerings such as E!, Movies24, SyFy and Universal UK. When new films like Snow White and the Huntsmen, Les Misérables and The Bourne Legacy leave cinemas, Sky Movies (and Now TV) customers will have an exclusive rental window before they’re available to everyone else, as well as full access to a back-catalog that contains childhood favorites like Jurassic Park and Back to the Future. As we’ve mentioned before, such deals are great news if you’re a Sky customer, and not if you’re not.

Sky+ in the UK has bundled several updates to deliver all at once, including expected ones like zeebox integration into its iPad app and an expanded Catch Up TV lineup, plus a new 2TB Sky+ HD DVR. Viewers will notice the new 7-day Catch Up TV section in their video on-demand section stocked with shows from Sky, ITV Player and Demand 5, with BBC iPlayer arriving this fall and 4oD next year. The Sky+ iPad app has been updated to v4.1 with a notification for possible recording conflicts plus expanded content info and social tie-ins powered by zeebox. Now, you can not only change channels from the tablet, but also find out more about what’s playing. Finally, the new expanded size DVR outpaces the stock configuration available from competitor Virgin Media, and we’re told it is priced the same as the previous 1TB offering. Check after the break for a press release with all the details, the gallery for screenshots and a look at the DVR or hit iTunes to grab the updated app right now.
