Skyrim inspires a course at Rice University

It seems Bethesda’s Skyrim has proved so popular that Rice University in Houston, Texas, has launched a one-time course based on it. Dubbed the “Scandanavian Fantasy World: Old Norse Sagas and Skyrim”, this is a one-time course that will run for one semester and is offered by the Department of English with enrollment being limited. We guess given the popularity of Skyrim, we expect that the class should be filled pretty quickly. So what exactly will students learn in this course? According to the course description: (more…)

Dragonborn could be the next Skyrim DLC according to datamined files

While PlayStation 3 gamers have yet to get their hands on both the Dawnguard and the Hearthfire DLCs for Skyrim, it seems that Bethesda has another DLC planned and is known as Dragonborn. This is thanks to gamers who have datamined the update files which makes several references to “Dragonborn” and “DLC2”. The files also point towards dragon mounts, a Morrowind location and more. No word on when the Dragonborn DLC will be launched, although given Bethesda history with PlayStation 3 releases, it is safe to say that PlayStation 3 gamers probably should not hold their breaths for this one. As with the case with previous Skyrim DLCs, the Xbox 360 is also expected to call dibs on this DLC first before it makes its way onto the PC, and hopefully the PlayStation 3 although we’d much rather Bethesda work on Dawnguard and Hearthfire first. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info, so check back with us at a later date for more updates!

Super Skyrim Bros.: Sorry Mario, but Our Princess is in Winterhold

It’s-a-me! Dovahkiin! This Skyrim mod adds the Mushroom Kingdom to the land of Tamriel and lets you pretend to be a character in a videogame who’s pretending to be a character from another videogame. It’s Super Skyrim Bros.!

super skyrim bros mario mod by clintmich

The mod was made by Skyrim Nexus member clintmich. When installed, the mod places a house near Winterhold. When your character sleeps at the house, he or she will begin dreaming and enter the Mushroom Kingdom. There you’ll find Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Bowser and the Princess, which of course needs saving. While you can’t just jump on the baddies to defeat them, you’ll find Mario-themed weapons in the dreamworld. You can also pick up coins and exchange them for prizes.

Take a warp pipe to Skyrim Nexus to download the mod.

Skyrim: Dawnguard PS3 delay is ‘our problem’, admits Bethesda

Earlier this morning, we brought you word from Bethesda’s Pete Hines himself via Twitter that the gaming house is still hard at work to introduce DLC (Downloadable Content) such as Skyrim and Hearthfire for the PS3, especially when the PS3’s rival platform, the Xbox 360, has already received its latest Hearthfire DLC without any hassles, while Dawnguard has already arrived on the Xbox 360 and PC platforms since summer.

Hines tweeted, “We’re still on it. Will share update when I have one.” When pressed further on the reason behind Dawnguard’s seeming impotency on the PS3 platform, Hines continued, “The performance isn’t good enough in all cases. For most folks, it’d be fine. For some, it wouldn’t be. We’ve never blamed anyone or anything. It’s our problem, and it’s on us to solve it.”

Spoken like a true leader, he now needs to make sure that his creative team of programmers and developers will be able to find a way to get Dawnguard up and running on the PS3 without any hiccups.

Bethesda still working on Dawnguard and Hearthfire DLCs for PlayStation 3

We’re sure that many PlayStation 3 gamers are still waiting on the Skyrim: Dawnguard DLC to arrive on their console, although based on the comments we’ve received so far, it seems that a good many have given up as well. Unfortunately if you were hoping for good news, you might be disappointed as Bethesda’s Pete Hines has announced via his Twitter that Skyrim DLCs for the PlayStation 3 – Dawnguard and the recently released Hearthfire – are still a no-go. He does not have any new information to share with us at the moment although the good news is that they are still working on it. This is despite previous reports which have suggested that Dawnguard and Hearthfire may never arrive on the PlayStation 3. We guess it’s good of Pete Hines to keep fans and gamers informed even though there wasn’t any good news to share. In any case we’ll keep our eyes peeled for Dawnguard and/or Hearthfire updates for the PlayStation 3, so check back with us at a later date where hopefully we will have some good news to share with you guys.

Skyrim Dawnguard PS3 DLC might never arrive

If you are a PS3 owner who has played Skyrim and have been waiting patiently for news on the Dawnguard DLC, well, there does not seem to be any good news in side as the release date for that particular DLC remains a heated topic still. To further add to the disappointment, one of Bethesda’s top PR execs, Pete Hines, (who holds the position of VP of PR and marketing), tweeted to a question that concerned the release date, saying, “No, we will not release it if we can’t get the performance to an ‘acceptable’ standard. Our stance on this has not changed.”

In other words, that would mean if Skyrim Dawnguard for the PS3 is not up to snuff, it will not be released. I do hope that some sense of closure will be made available to gamers, especially fans of the franchise, as being left hanging in the air for news of a potential release is never quite the most pleasant experience. Not only that, folks might just give up altogether if they had to wait like, forever. Perhaps giving the development team a certain timeframe or deadline to meet, otherwise the entire project will have to be scrapped, might be a better way to conclude things.

Hopefully by the time the development team figures out all the bugs plaguing Skyrim Dawnguard, the PS4 would not have been released.

Skyrim: Dawnguard for PlayStation 3′s status not expected to change “soon”

So we know that both Sony and Bethesda are hard at work trying to get Skyrim: Dawnguard to work on the PlayStation 3. It’s rather unfortunate given that Hearthfire has already been released but PlayStation 3 owners have yet to play the first Skyrim DLC. That being said, it seems that the work being done on the PlayStation 3 version is still going on and it does not appear that we might be seeing it anytime soon. According to Bethesda’s Pete Hines via Twitter, he revealed that this was not a situation where the status is expected to change “soon” and there is no quick or easy solution to it. It certainly does not bode well for PlayStation 3 gamers, but what do you guys think? Are you hoping that Bethesda and Sony work something out eventually, or have you given up on Dawnguard for the PlayStation 3 entirely?

Sony and Bethesda scramble to get PS3 Dawnguard DLC working

It is an open secret that Bethesda has had issues with the Dawnguard DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, so much so that it has yet to hit the Sony PS3. The issues might even be too large for Bethesda to resolve, but that does not mean the company has stopped working on it. Sony too, would want to help Bethesda out, with Sony VP Adam Boyes informing Kotaku that Sony has dispatched a team to work alongside Bethesda in order to fix the issues that plagued the PS3 version. Adam said, “We have a big, broad dev support team that works closely with Bethesda. Everyone involved is trying their best to get this stuff working.”

Hopefully this synergy would mean whatever issues that plague the PS3 Dawnguard DLC will soon be weeded out, although there is no commitment to any time frame as expected. Xbox 360 owners have been rocking to Hearthfire for a week already with Dawnguard being available for over a month, making me wonder whether some PS3 owners might just decide to make the jump over to the Xbox 360 platform after waiting for so long.

Xbox LIVE down, Skyrim Hearthfire release to blame?

Some of our readers have already commented that Xbox LIVE is down, and they are unable to download the latest Skyrim Hearthfire DLC, although early birds who managed to snag the proverbial worm in the form of the 75MB Skyrim Hearthfire download should be able to enjoy their Minecraft-inspired DLC right now on the Xbox 360. As for the rest of the masses, chances are you are not able to connect or log-in to Xbox LIVE. Heck, even the official Xbox LIVE status page points out that problems are being reported even as you read this. Microsoft, obviously, is aware of the situation and are working hard to make sure all those gremlins in the system are being weeded out, although Microsoft has yet to determine the cause of Xbox LIVE being down at such a crucial moment.

It does not matter whether you use the online website or your console, you will most probably be unable to sign in to Xbox LIVE while it is down. Right now, folks living in the UK, France and the US have confirmed running into issues when attempting to sign in. We sure hope that this niggling issue will be fixed – and soon. Are you affected by the downtime on Xbox LIVE, or are you one of those who managed to snag Skyrim Hearthfire earlier this morning?

Skyrim: Hearthfire DLC now available for download on Xbox 360

Good news gamers, if you were looking forward to playing the new Skyrim DLC, Hearthfire, as promised it has been released and is now available from the Marketplace and will cost gamers 400 MP and is about 75MB to download. As usual, the DLC will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and should be making its way onto other platforms at a later date. However given that Dawnguard has yet to be released on the PlayStation 3 due to issues and with Bethesda not being particularly thrilled at its performance, we’re not sure if Hearthfire will meet the same fate. Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled and hopefully Hearthfire will prove to be a story with a happy ending for PlayStation 3 gamers. For those unfamiliar, Hearthfire is the second DLC for Skyrim and introduces the ability for gamers to build their own houses, bringing a new aspect to the game that will deviate from the usual questing and killing of monsters.
