Samsung Galaxy Gear apps include Path, Pocket, RunKeeper and more

Path on Samsung Galaxy Gear

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch will launch with 70 native apps, and it turns out that there’s quite a few heavy-hitters in that bunch. Path is available to share photos taken from the Gear’s wriststrap; Pocket users, meanwhile, can have Gear read saved articles out loud. And fitness apps will definitely be in vogue — RunKeeper, MyFitnessPal, Phigolf and others have embraced Samsung’s vision. There are too many other apps to list them all, although we’ve noticed big-name titles like Snapchat in the mix. If you’re planning to pick up Samsung’s wristwear in the next few weeks, there won’t be any shortage of things to do with it.

Finally, an App That Saves Your Snapchats Without Telling the Sender

Finally, an App That Saves Your Snapchats Without Telling the Sender

Snapchat really broke the mold with this whole single-serve messaging feature. Send a friend a sexy pic without the risk of anybody else seeing it? What genius! Of course some enterprising app developer was going to come along and ruin it.

Snapchat Android update adds transparency, still lacks ‘bad judgment’ filter

Image

The latest version of Snapchat’s Android app cleans up its interface and adds gesture-based navigation controls. Everything from conversation view and the contact list received a once over making it feel more like a platform-native app, even though it’s more than a blush similar to the last iOS update. Perhaps the biggest fix is the new shutter button, which is a clear bubble instead of a big blue bar. Now nothing’s obscuring your view of a poor snap decision.

Please Don’t Ruin Instagram With Crappy Videos

Please Don't Ruin Instagram With Crappy Videos

An Instagram photo carries a certain artificial heft to it. There’s a sense of importance, or at least permanence, to the photos we post to these accounts that you don’t get from tweets or even status updates on Facebook. Instagram isn’t naturally this way; it’s developed this weight because everything on Instagram is beautiful. And with the addition of video, we’ve got a wonderful opportunity to make the platform more interesting—but we have to be careful.

Snapcat for Android: Because Cats Want to Take Selfies, Too

Cats are techie creatures. From playing games to wearing headphones (okay, so this was just an April Fools’ Day joke, but hey, I can totally see it happening), cats can do it all.

And now a developer has created an app intended for use by your frisky kitty so it can take its own selfies.

Snapcat

It’s aptly called Snapcat and it’ll snap pictures of your cat based on its movements. Once the app is fired up, a red dot appears on the screen. You cat will, in theory, be attracted to the red dot and will attempt to take a swipe at it. This swiping motion triggers the front-facing camera, which then takes a candid shot of your cat.

Once the photo has been taken, you can apply filters or add stickers to the image. When you’re done, you can share the image on social networks like EyeEm, Facebook, and Twitter – with the approval of your cat, of course. You can even post a snap on your cat’s Social Petwork page, if it has one.

Snapcat can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.
