3D Print Your Own Sneakers: Fila(ment)

You wouldn’t download a sneaker. Oh you would? Check out Recreus hot off the extruder Sneakerbot II. Unlike Kobes, KDs, LeBrons and other signature kicks, Sneakerbot II won’t ever be hoarded by celebrities and eBay sellers. You can get its 3D model and print a pair anytime you want.

Here’s a time lapse video of a Sneakerbot II being printed:

I don’t think you should wear these as they are; they don’t have insoles or ankle support. But if I had a 3D printer I’d definitely try to make myself a pair of Sneakerbot IIs just for the heck of it. Head to Thingiverse to download the Sneakerbot II’s files. You can order Filaflex from Recreus’ online shop.

Nike Designer Says Marty McFly's Power Laces Are Coming Next Year

Nike Designer Says Marty McFly's Power Laces Are Coming Next Year

If there was one disappointment about Nike’s awesome Back to the Future II Air Mag, it’s that the shoes didn’t have Marty’s power laces (and that they only made 1,500 and neither you nor I own a pair). But Nike designer Tinker Hatfield says that’s about to change—power laces are coming in 2015. The future is here!

Vault 101 Sneakers Help You Sneak Past Mutants, Won’t Protect You from Radiation

One of my favorite video game franchises is Fallout. If you are a fan of the game, you will appreciate the latest product from Bethesda Softworks called Vault 101 Sneakers. They are also known as Vault-Tec Item 72778011-101.

Created by Tweak Footwear, these Fallout sneakers have the blue and yellow colors that are so popular for those locked away inside the vaults. They are covered in blue suede leather with yellow trim, which is guaranteed to bleed if you get them wet or expose them to high doses of radiation. The shoes also feature a molded EVA sock liner for durability, but does nothing to reduce your chances of contamination.

The Vault 101 sneakers are offered in sizes from 7 up to 14. Girls who want a pair need to subtract two from their size since they are men’s sizes.

The shoes are officially licensed Fallout merchandise and are available now for $84.99(USD) per pair from ThinkGeek or the Bethesda Store.

Nike Fridge Magnets Let You Design the Perfect Sneaker

Nike doesn’t realize it yet, but it could single-handedly make your fridge the most entertaining spot in your home—at least if you’re a sneaker freak. Because instead of poetry or Scrabble, the shoe maker has created a wonderful set of magnets that lets anyone be a sneaker designer, as long as you’re ok with never being able to wear your creation.

Nike LunarENDOR Quickstrike Snowboard Boot: Lights on!

There have been only a few Nike shoes with LEDs, but these snowboard boots take the top prize, thanks to 30 LEDs implanted into the swoosh on each boot. You definitely won’t be invisible on your next night run down the slopes.

The Nike LunarENDOR Quickstrike Snowboard boot is powered by a built-in lithium ion battery, that’s controlled by a power button in the boot’s cuff. The boot comes with Lunarlon foam to improve the plushness of your ride. There’s a customizable flex line system, allowing you to choose between three levels of stiffness.

As you’d expect, all of this tech doesn’t come cheap. The regular LunarENDOR boots sell for $430(USD), so I can only imagine how much the Quickstrike LED model will sell for.

These Classic Nike Sneakers Are Actually Made Out of Cigarette Packs

These Classic Nike Sneakers Are Actually Made Out of Cigarette Packs

We’ve all felt it: The unique kind of envy that results from encountering something you want, but can’t afford. For some of us, it’s the new iPhone. For others, it’s an eight-foot-long hot tub boat. For artist Jason Ruff in his younger years, it was sneakers and cigarettes—which serve as materials for his latest project.
