Emergency Portable SNES: Survive the Apocalypse with Super Mario World

You have to be prepared for disasters – whether it is a hurricane, a tornado, a zombie apocalypse, whatever. The end result could be that you could be without power. Forget food and water and blankets. You need to be ready to be able to play some classic Nintendo while you wait to be rescued.

Redditor robotairz has you covered. He has created a portable set-up that you can build yourself. This shock-proof yellow Pelican 1300 case is loaded with an SNES console, controllers, and games. It has everything two players need to keep themselves entertained for hours while civilization crumbles around them. It runs on batteries and even has a built in charger and LCD screen.

It cost about $425 to build, but being able to play Donkey Kong Country is priceless.

Portable SNES Mod Features 10+ Hours Of Gameplay In Shock-Proof Case

Portable SNES Mod Features 10+ Hours Of Gameplay In Shock Proof Case

Portable gaming has become quite big recently with the release of Nintendo’s 3DS, Sony’s PS Vita and of course, with the rise in popularity of iOS and Android phones and tablets. What hasn’t exactly taken off is making full-sized consoles of yesteryear portable, but after seeing this portable SNES, it might spark a trend of making old consoles new again with the addition of portability.

A modded known as robotairz on Reddit shared his creation today, which he says he actually made some time last year which leads us to believe he may very well be the busiest modder ever known. The portable SNES comes in a yellow, thick carrying case whose interior is completely shock-proof meaning it can probably be hit by a tornado and still survive for some random old-school gaming sessions.

The portable SNES is powered by six 3.7v 5000mAh li-po batteries and has a charger built into it allowing for the ability to just plug it into a wall to charge it up. Depending on the game being played, the portable SNES can play for around 10+ hours on a single charge. The LCD included is an 8″ LCD whose resolution is 800×600.

If you’re looking to have such a portable gaming unit in your life, robotairz is looking to sell it, so get in contact with him quick if you absolutely need to have this in your life.

You Can Buy Every Single SNES Game Ever for $25,000

If you have 25 grand lying around and gathering dust, why not spend it on buying every single Super Nintendo game ever? YES. DO IT. Also, why not hang out with me after you buy it so we can play all 721 SNES games you just bought? Sounds like a plan! More »

It is always good to make sure that everyone has a hobby – simply because you love hobbies, and when you do something that you love, it does not feel as though you are “working” on it, but rather, time flies really fast while you are at it. I guess the best kind of careers to be involved in would be one that has your hobby worked right in, making money out of what piques your interest. Some folks collect books, others stamps, and while others look for rare coins from around the world. Kings of yore collected gold and wives, and the modern day rich man might see that starting a car collection is something worth looking into. How about collecting video games? That does sound rather nerdish, but it seems that an extremely well known collector in the video game community is putting up his SNES collection for sale – with a cool $20,000 asking price to boot!

Of course, he is open to other offers, and I am quite sure that he will be more than pleased as punch to accept anything higher. Heck, if I were him, I would have put it up for auction with $20,000 as the opening bid. The seller is known as “byuu”, and if he sounds familiar to you, that is because he is the brains behind the popular bsnes emulator. In an effort to ensure that every single ROM made available for the bsnes emulator will run perfectly, he has amassed the entire SNES game collection, taking three years to do so while delivering spot on accuracy for each cover scan. Selling off this collection after his task is complete is one way of recouping some of his losses.

Bear in mind that you would be getting every single licensed SNES game, which does not include unlicensed and promotional games. byuu figured out that his effort required around 2,000 hours of buying, scanning, and dumping the games, while taking another 60 hours to clean each one of the cartridges. The money that he recoups is meant to accumulate every single European and Japanese SNES game for a similar purpose, now is that dedication or what?

Full SNES Game Collection On Sale For $20,000

You know what they say – if you want to do something, do it right. Hence, the same can be said for collecting stuff (I’m not referring to hoarders here as they are an entirely different creature altogether). Here we are with a collector who has great love for video games, and he has put up his entire US Super Nintendo collection for sale at a cool $20,000, although he has an ear to listen to other offers as well. It is said that all the games in his collection will include the box, with 85% of them carrying a manual. Ah yes, game manuals, now that is definitely a lost art when you think about it. Seller “byuu” is the very same person behind the popular bsnes emulator, accumulated all the games in a time span of 3 years, in an effort to ensure that every ROM available is perfect, with every scan of the cover being accurate.

This labor of love is being sold off to help him recoup some of his losses. When you put more thought into it, $20,000 is not too large a sum to ask considering how it includes every single licensed SNES game to date, with some of them actually selling for more than $300 sans a box. Throw in the box, and you would have a far more valuable title. byuu intends to “recycle” the money received on a new quest – to accumulate every single European and Japanese SNES game for a similar purpose.

Here Are All of Nintendo’s Video Game Consoles

Nintendo has an eternal soft spot in my heart. The NES, SNES, N64, GameBoy and DS had a lasting impact on my childhood. The original Wii was the most fun I had playing video games in a long time. Nintendo probably means the same for you! (unless you were a Sega and Sony guy). Watch this video to see the all the video game consoles that Nintendo has ever made. It’s a walk back memory lane. SNES Controller Cake Makes Button-Mashing Messy

Ah, the old SNES controller. How many hours have you spent mashing buttons and entering cheat codes on this controller? Me, I can’t even begin to count them. Now you can have your controller and eat it too, with this awesomely geeky SNES Controller cake.
snes cake
It’s shockingly accurate too. You could play some serious Donkey Kong Country with this thing as long as you don’t mind a huge mess all over your hands and table. I call the D-pad, because D stands for “delicious.” Those mushrooms look pretty tasty too. I hear they make you grow.

So if we just had a second controller cake we could have a two player cake-eating contest. But as is often the case, some of the best games are single-player only, and I wouldn’t mind eating this thing alone.

Final Fantasy VI Fan Mod Features Heroes from Different FF Games: Better than Dissidia?

Before the silly X-2 and the XIII trilogy, the Final Fantasy franchise was known for rebooting itself with each iteration. Each game had a different battle system than the one that came before it and featured different characters as well. This decision lent the series a rich universe and opened our eyes on the possibilities of turn-based combat, but it also meant that our favorite characters would be left out when the next game came along. Which is why I’m very excited about this fan made mod of Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III to the West), which brings together heroes and villains from the different Final Fantasy games.

Spanish is the first language of the unsung hero who is making this mod, so pardon me if I don’t get some of the details right. The modder calls the game Final Fantasy El Origen (Final Fantasy: The Origin), and it will include 14 playable characters from various FF games. It will have its own story and new skills for the characters. The game is based on the SNES version of Final Fantasy VI, which the modder chose because of the wide availability of SNES emulators, meaning a lot of people will be able to play the mod when it’s finished.

AUROOOONNNN Sorry. Aside from the playable heroes, other characters will also make cameos in the game. Check out the gameplay below:

Head to the mod’s website for more pictures and information. The modder also uploaded a trailer on YouTube, which has more information for those who can understand Spanish. I hope the modder succeeds in finishing the game. And I hope he includes a scene where Sabin teaches everyone how to suplex a train.

Super Nincoffee Jr.: Have a Nice Cup of Joe & Mac

Most of the console mods we feature are either portable versions of older consoles or add aesthetic features. Rarely do we come across a hack that was made for the heck of it, like this coffeemaker that was transformed into an SNES. Why? Tinkerers do or do not, there is no why.

super nincoffee 2

The mod was made by YouTuber Tyler and his dad. This is actually the second Mr. Coffee that they turned into a Mr. Videogame. Neither of the mods work as a coffeemaker anymore – perhaps Tyler can work on that in the future. Tyler also stated in the description of the first Super Nincoffee video that they originally wanted to make a Super Nintoaster but they found it too hard. Tyler, if you still want to get on that project I think you and your dad should check out this video. The rest of you can see the Super Nincoffee Jr. in action below:

Obviously the whole thing could turn out to be fake. Hopefully Tyler and his dad can post a video of the steps involved or at least the electronics inside the mod.
