Apple Trademark Change Fuels iWatch Frenzy

Apple Trademark Change Fuels iWatch Frenzy

In U.S. trademark filings product categories are divided into 45 classes. Apple seeks to extend its corporate trademark so that its name qualifies for cover under Class 14 as well. Definition for this class states: “This class includes mainly precious metals, goods in precious metals, and, in general, jewelry, clocks and watches.” This means that Apple wants its name protected in the jewelry and watch business. Whenever Apple and watch are mentioned in the same sentence these days it has something to do with its much rumored smartwatch, the iWatch.

This is actually the first time Apple has applied for this trademark extension in the U.S. It has already filed for similar extensions in the U.K., Norway, Mexico and Ecuador. Last year Apple applied for ownership of the iWatch product name, fueling speculation that it was indeed working on a smartwatch. Though so far this product hasn’t materialized.

Recent reports and analyst predictions suggest that Apple iWatch is destined for release later this year, presumably in fall. It is believed to have a flexible OLED display and many fitness related features. Apparently iOS 8′s focus on mobile health and fitness tracking will be aided by relevant data collected by the smartwatch.

Despite Apple’s own claim of entering new product categories this year, the company is yet to confirm that it is working on a wearable device, a smartwatch to be precise. For now rumors are all there is.

China Hires Porn Censors

China Hires Porn CensorsWhat do you think if there was this particular position or vacancy that opened up, allowing you to watch adult rated material simply because it is your job to do so? I do wonder what kind of career advancement one would be able to enjoy in this line of work – do you get to watch other categories of adult material? Chances are it would be a more supervisory role instead, I suppose. Chinese civil servant Chunqi Liu, who happens to be a former policeman, has been employed by the government to watch up to 330 clips of porn each day.

Where does Liu come in? Well, for instance, local authorities who plan a midnight raid on an illegal DVD store that has been set up in an alley somewhere, selling such prohibited materials, would require Liu to jump into action since he would then need to go through all the discs.

The 59-year-old former policeman claimed that this job has taken its toll on him, as he has ended up physically ill, not to mention losing his appetite for days while causing his marriage to be on the rocks. I suppose if one were to actually be in such a position, then there has to be some sort of counselor on deck to help him sort out his issues.

DIY Web-Shooter To Complement Your Cyclops Ruby Quartz Visor

An idle mind might be the devil’s workshop, but there are times when idle minds end up as the hotbed of innovation, the “Eureka!” moment, so to speak. Well, for those of you who cannot get enough of modern day CGI that makes it possible for movies to turn our favorite comic books into reality, then here is Patrick Priebe’s proof-of-concept web-shooter that belongs to the one and only, the amazing Spider-Man.

Patrick Priebe might be no Peter Parker, but this does not mean he isn’t handy with his hands and agile mind. Priebe also happens to be the very same person who came up with this DIY laser visor that allows you to “shoot” laser beams in the direction you’re looking at, where your imagination will get the rest of the job done. The web-shooter features three in-glove buttons, where it is controlled in the same manner as that of its comic book counterpart. One of the buttons would charge the device, while the other fires a projectile, with the third launching the retractable brass-tipped harpoon that replaces Spidey’s super strong webs. A 350 volt battery will power this bad boy, but don’t worry about the harpoon’s impact as it is not even strong enough to skewer a styrofoam block.

Boat In Apple Maps Thought To Be Nessie At First

Boat In Apple Maps Thought To Be Nessie At FirstApple Maps might be able to get you from point A to point B in an unfamiliar territory, but this does not mean that it is the first app or program that people go to in order to find their way around. Google Maps is, no doubt about it, still the undisputed king when it comes to navigational apps, and Nokia’s free HERE Maps too, does a pretty good job. Of course, there are some strange events in Google’s online services including a lady who caught her fiance cheating on her, now what are the odds of that happening? Apple Maps is not immune to its own strangeness, too, as some claim that satellite photos offered by Apple shows off what could be Nessie, the nickname for the fabled Loch Ness monster. The thing is, ‘Nessie’ happened to be nothing more than a boat, plain and simple.

A superior version of the satellite photo has depicted a boat, and this image is not seen on Google Maps at the moment. Of course, in a low resolution image, it could be mistaken for the famous creature that some folks believe exist deep in the loch, although naysayers have long claimed that this is nothing more than a wake from a boat – which has proven to be that exactly in a higher resolution.

The human mind is certainly extremely adept at seeing what it wants to see, and will be able to carve out a niche of its imagination to deliver an interesting synopsis on a particular situation. What next, Bigfoot appearing on Apple Maps?

E-cigarette Explodes, Sets House On Fire

E cigarette Explodes, Sets House On FireNobody said that quitting the smoking habit is going to be easy, and while some folks out there have done so the cold turkey way, others might have to gradually taper off in the form of smoking less sticks in due time, or to rely on a nicotine patch, or look towards electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes in short, as an alternative. It seems that e-cigarettes have a new potential health hazard to worry about – the risk of explosion. Apparently, an e-cigarette exploded and razed a house in Barking, resulting in the London Fire Brigade to issue a warning concerning e-cigarettes.

The London Fire Brigade mentioned that such devices could actually burst into flames when one uses wrong charger, as evident by the victim of the fire who has since been hospitalized did. The fire took a quartet of fire engines and over 20 firefighters to deal with so that others around the flat remained safe and sound. The lady herself was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation and shock, prior to being sent to the hospital.

E-cigarettes might not be able to set things alight by itself, but using the wrong charger does carry with it its fair share of risks. A spokesman from the Brigade Fire Investigation Team shared, “The danger is that people sometimes use incorrect chargers which runs the risk of over-charging, which can potentially have explosive results. We are calling on e-cig retailers to ensure they are selling the correct chargers for the cigarettes. As with all rechargeable electrical equipment, it’s vitally important that people use the correct type of charger for their e-cigs to prevent fires which can be serious and could even result in death.”

Teen Records Himself Getting Bullied On iPad, Gets Charged With Wiretapping Instead

Teen Records Himself Getting Bullied On iPad, Gets Charged With Wiretapping InsteadImagine that you’re out and about, perhaps phone in your hand, when you witness a crime take place either in front of you or you’re the victim, so you start using your phone to record the incident to use it as evidence or proof of the crime taking place. Sounds fine, right? Imagine the surprise of a Pennsylvania sophomore who discovered that he had been charged with wiretapping instead of being able to use his recordings as evidence.

The story goes like this: a Pennsylvania sophomore complained to his mom about being bullied in school. To prove that he was not making this up, he decided to use his school-approved iPad to record the incident on audio. The audio recordings did prove he was being harassed, with students making fun of him, making extremely rude comments, and even mock hitting him so as to scare him, as one of them admitted on audio. SELFIE Mirror Shoots Seflies

iStrategyLabs might have struck gold with their latest invention that actually captures selfies. Yes sir, this particular device is known as the Self Enhancing Live Feed Imagine Engine, or SELFIE in short – you see what they did there? The SELFIE happens to be a two way mirror that runs on a Mac mini, and whenever it detects a smile for a couple of seconds, it will then snap a photo of yourself. It does seem as though iStrategyLabs see plenty of potential in the SELFIE mirror to be installed in public premises such as bars.

American digital agency iStrategyLabs’ Chief Marketing Officer DJ Saul shared, ‘We had some funny things like it would locate a smile on the side of your head, so we played around until we were comfortable. We also considered photos being triggered by a wink, but we went with a smile as it fit with the narrative a bit more for a smiling selfie.” That sounds about right, and it is rather unfortunate that the company has yet to pencil out plans in order to make it commercially available.

The Mac mini computer that powers SELFIE will run a facial recognition software known as Open CV. The webcam will be able to detect a smile, where LEDs controlled by Arduino will then light up vertically on the mirror to indicate that it is about to snap your photo, where after that, a tweet with your image is created.

Alaska To Make Drone Assisted Hunting Illegal

Alaska To Make Drone Assisted Hunting Illegal

Drones perform spectacularly as the proverbial eye in the sky, but the Alaska Board of Game doesn’t want drones giving hunters an unfair advantage over their UAV-less counterparts. At its recent meeting, the 7 member Alaska Board of Game unanimously voted in favor of a measure to stop hunters from spotting game through drones, or other similar gadgets. Alaska Wildlife Troopers believe that this practise isn’t widespread, but with drone technology becoming cheaper, its only a matter of time before hunters start investing in drones.
