Well, Friday the 13th came and passed uneventfully this year.
Internationally, there were no earth-shaking calamities. In fact, quite
the contrary. Russia, America’s on-again-off-again ally was instrumental in
sealing the day for chemical disarmament in Syria. And unbeknownst to a
lot of us folks, Russia is the only country in the world to officially
recognize "Programmers Day."
One of the most popular things people post on Instagram is pictures of food. So why shouldn’t it make sense to make some food that looks like Instagram’s logo? That’s exactly what Ann Reardon of How to Cook That did when she made this awesome Instagram cake.
The cake is made from layers of chocolate mousse, colorful Jell-O with cream, along with cake, and frosting, natch. However, the diagram below is a little confusing. If I were to follow it literally, I’d have to include an actual lens and viewfinder in my recipe:
It’s also got some sort of delectable chocolate sculpture on top – because mousse, Jell-O and cake isn’t enough dessert for me.
True to their name, How to Cook That has provided a detailed video showing exactly how you can make your own Instagram Cake:
The Little Film That Could: “Finish Line” Coming Into The Final Stretch on KickStarter
Posted in: Today's Chili"Finish Line: The Rise and Demise of Off-Track Betting" is an indie
documentary currently in production. It’s a ‘Damon Runyon-esque"
real-life American saga real-life American saga that unfortunately doesn’t come with a Hollywood
happy ending. The shuttering of Off-Track-Betting (OTB) in New York
City plays out like a Greek Tragedy where over a 1000 employees had
their livelihoods, pensions and health benefits taken from them, while
Governor Cuomo of New York looked the other way.
Follow Internet Investor Yuri Milner’s Lead To Invest In Small Social Media Businesses
Posted in: Today's ChiliHindsight is 20/20. Had we known to follow Yuri Milner’s lead back in
2009 when he and his company Digital Sky Technologies (DST) invested
$200 million in what was a small busines
at the time called, Facebook, for a 1.95% stake — we may all have been
a lot wealthier today. That early bet made this previously-unknown
Russian investor, a billionaire.
Twitter’s been around since 2006. If it was a kid, Twitter would be in 2nd grade, and totally grounded for having such a potty mouth. But trying to search through old tweets is a major frustration, because Twitter’s built-in search function favors messages it thinks are newest and most relevant. Topsy changes all that, with a robust search setup that, as of today, has indexed every tweet ever tweeted.
While Google hopes to launch Google Glass by Christmas,
there’s a lot of speculation as to its acceptance in the business
world. Surely with an anticipated price tag of slightly under $1500, at
first glance (pun intended), one would think only larger brands would be
able to afford this innovative new device.
It’s easy to think back on that whole Orson Wells War of the Worlds thing and think to yourself: "That could never happen today, not in a world with internet, and where everybody knows about that one time it happened already." Well, you’d be wrong.
Smart Move or Gimmick? This Bar Only Lets Its Facebook Friends in After 9PM
Posted in: Today's ChiliSuppose you’re a bar owner who’s getting tired of dealing with a rowdy crowd of undesirables who do nothing but mess up your interior decor and ruin the mood in the entire place with their antics. What would you do? Hire more bouncers, or implement a digital bouncer-type of system instead?
Tony Mannor, the owner of Stockton, California’s Finnegan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, opted to go with the latter. So far, it seems like he made the right decision. The doors are closed to people who aren’t “friends” with the bar’s Facebook page after 9PM. That means patrons have to add the pub in the social media network before they can enter.
Mannor took to YouTube to explain that slots are “limit[ed] to an overall percentage of total occupancy and other factors.” He added that the bar has about 7,500 names on their guest list – with Mannor himself knowing the faces of at least 75% of them.
