We’re beyond over-sharing—we’re perma-sharing. Between texts, Twitter, and Facebook, we have more vessels for venting than we have thoughts worth sharing. So you might assume, with all these ways to communicate, that a friend in trouble will make it obvious to everyone. Don’t. Don’t assume anything. More »
Click to viewThe first argument you hear against posting political views on social media is that you’ll only end up alienating your [OTHER PARTY] friends, or crowding the echo chamber your [SAME PARTY] friends have been smugly simmering in for months. But there’s something else you should seriously consider: you don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. More »
Livestream for Producers Android app update brings live video broadcasts over wireless data connections
Posted in: Today's ChiliAndroid users of generation “Hey Look at Me!” can now add another tool to their arsenal of lifestyle sharing. The Livestream for Producers Android application received an update on Monday that introduces “single touch” sign up and logins through Facebook, a new app icon and some unnamed bug fixes. However, the most noteworthy addition here is the ability to run live ad-free videos over 3G and 4G data connections. Requiring Android 2.2 or higher, this free media streaming app might be an ideal companion for folks looking to incriminate co-workers at this year’s Halloween costume party — all in good fun of course. Just be sure to remember who signs your paycheck before you decide to take a broadcast live.

Every company has to deal with people who talk about it on the Internet, and different ones handle it differently. Nestle for instance, maintains an elite team of Digital Accelerators that, as an article by Reuters reveals, watches the wide world of Internet comments like a hawk. More »
From "First Time Girls" To "First Wives Club," Protests Go Viral Prior To Election [Videos]
Posted in: Today's ChiliWomen’s issues move center-stage once again in the final stretch of this
year’s contentious Presidential campaigns — mainly, due to Richard Mourdock’s and
Todd Akin’s extreme views on women’s rights. On the left, the creative
genius of HBO’s hit comedy "Girls," Lena Dunham and 1960’s pop icon
Lesley Gore have released political ads that connect women of the 1960s
to first-time female voters of 2012, which provided a needed counterpoint.
Blogger Asks People to Slap Him Silly Whenever He Logs on to Social Networks
Posted in: Today's ChiliHow do you get over an addiction? Some people check into rehab, others go cold turkey, while others resort to hiring people off Craigslist to slap themselves out of it. The first two seem like typical things to do. The last one was done by blogger Sethi.
Sethi runs a blog called Hack the System. He also happens to be addicted to social media. One day, he tracked how he was spending his time and discovered that he was spending way too much time chatting on Facebook and checking out Reddit. So he did what no normal person would do and posted an ad on Craigslist for a slapper:
I’m looking for someone who can work next to me at a defined location (my house or a mission cafe) and will make sure to watch what is happening on my screen. When I am wasting time, you’ll have to yell at me or if need be, slap me.
Strange thing to do, I know. But people actually signed on to do the gig and Sethi got a fair amount of slaps in the process. What’s stranger is that it actually worked for Sethi, since he reported that his productivity was quadrupled because of it.
I guess you could say Sethi managed to slap away his habit.

With the presidential election only 2 weeks out, both campaigns are
fully cognizant of the impact of social media and how one meme can sway
opinion within minutes of it being uttered. At no other time in U.S.
history has the combination of messaging on TV and Twitter become so
intertwined. However instead of paying the hefty fees of a TV ad, the
presidential contenders incur less cost by purchasing Promoted Tweets and Trends, and ironically utilize the free medium of a TV
debate to drive the traffic.
Words With Friends is a multi-player word game developed by Zynga. It’s
popularity got a boost from Alex Baldwin’s infamous riff with a
stewardess when he refused to turn off the game during take-off. Similar
to the rules of Scrabble, players can choose to play with a friend or a
random player found online. President Obama has chosen to play the game
with undecided voters using a new word he coined this past week. . .
called "Romnesia"
