Evernote introduces Evernote Business, updates iOS application to version 44

Having already conquered the general consumer market on multiple platforms, Evernote’s now taking its handy software tools to a more biz-oriented audience. Earlier today, the company proudly introduced Evernote Business, which, according to CEO Phil Libin, is “the same Evernote that’s great for individuals, except now it’s optimized so that you can use it in your small and medium-sized business environment.” The newfangled Evernote Business will be launching later this December, with the note-taking outfit accepting early applicants on its website as we speak. That’s not all the news, however, since Evernote’s also updated its iOS application for the second time during August; bringing page and multi-shot camera features to the mix, while faster download times and improved PDF support on iPads can also be found inside the fresh 4.4 version. You’ll find both the sign-up and download links gravitating below.

Adobe Revel 1.5 released with new UI, text captions and auto-syncing albumsAdobe’s cloud-based photo storage and editing app has been enjoying its new name since it hopped off the Carousel, and now it’s appreciating a feature bump too. Version 1.5 has just hit the virtual shelves of the Mac and iTunes stores, complete with a new UI and the option to log in using Facebook or Google accounts. Functionality wise, the update adds text captioning for your snaps and the ability to create albums which auto-sync across your devices and can be shared with others via the web. Alright, so the update isn’t revolutionizing the service, but we’re sure those that currently subscribe are reveling in it.

Google Play Music app updated for Google TV, Play video content now streaming to Chromebooks

Google Play Music app updated for Google TV, Play video content now streaming to Chromebooks

Good news for people who love good news — Google has just thrown some bug fixes at its Play Music app with Google TV support that launched late last year. Point being, Google TV users can now fire up the app and stream their stored tunes to the speakers connected to their entertainment system. In related news, GigaOM has spotted that the latest Chrome OS update actually enables users to watch television shows and movies from the Google Play store, but unfortunately, it’s not wise enough to spot where you’ve paused it and let you pick things up on a different Android device. For those who’ve updated, let us know how either process is going for you in comments below. Or don’t — no pressure.

Sony’s Ice Cream Sandwich rollout now in final stages for 2011 Xperia devices

Sony's 2011 Xperia Ice Cream Sandwich rollout now in final stages

You have to hand it to Sony, the company’s more than made good on its Android 4.0 upgrade promise (save for that Play hiccup). After rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich to its NXT mid-ranger just a few days ago, it’s now ready to dole out the software goods to the majority of the 2011 Xperia lineup beginning this week. That’s only the first round though, as a trio of leftover devices — the mini pro, neo L and Live with Walkman — will be privy to this OS boost in the “next few weeks.” With this latest feel-good news reassuring brand loyalists and official word of the Xperia S’ entrance into AOSP, it sure seems like prime time to hitch your ride to the company’s Google-powered mobile wagon. After all, Jelly Bean’s bound to spill over at some point.

Adobe begins regular updates to Creative Cloud applications, details future improvements for Creative Suite

Adobe begins regular updates to Creative Cloud applications, details future improvements for Creative Suite

Adobe’s subscription-based software service is three months old and the outfit is rolling out the first of its regular updates to the Creative Cloud set of applications. Alongside a new preview of Adobe Edge (now Edge Animate), added features to Adobe Muse highlight this round of improvements — set to go live for members at 12:01 AM EDT tonight. The app that allows users to create websites without writing a line of code now includes custom contact forms, links to downloadable files (PDFs and such) and the option of using HTML5 animations from Edge and other programs. Other tweaks range from align / distribute and ruler guides that you’ve grown accustom to using on the fly in Creative Suite to a few FTP and publishing enhancements.

Also included in the news is that the company plans to roll out select new features to the regular ol’ Creative Suite offerings ahead of the annual release schedule to Creative Cloud subscribers. Some of the newfangled features that will arrive in CS7 will arrive early for those who opt for the membership route as each product team sees fit. For example, a file-packaging feature for Illustrator that was previewed recently is on its way soon. In order to get the entire truckload of new tech that the aforementioned release stands to haul, though, you’ll have to wait until the entire lot hits in properly licensed form. Sound like the kind of early access you’d enjoy? Well, those looking to switch from the normal CS license model (CS3 and later) can join the Cloud for $29.99 per month for the first year instead of the usual $49.99 until August 31st.

LG confirms Optimus 2X will indeed be updated to ICS… in Korea, at least

LG confirms Optimus 2X will indeed be updated to ICS in Korea

The LG Optimus 2X has been no stranger to controversy when it comes to firmware upgrades (for some variants, at least) so we didn’t blink an eye when we heard LG Canada’s proclamation that the dual-core device would forever remain on Gingerbread — despite the company’s previous statements to the contrary. It turns out, however, that the future of the Optimus 2X may not be all doom and gloom — for Korea, anyway. The company’s Korean branch sent out a tweet mentioning that the phone will indeed be updated to Android 4.0. Though the tweet itself appeared to be country-agnostic, we have reached out to LG reps and received official confirmation, telling us “for now, that tweet only refers to Korean availability.” We still haven’t heard any news about ICS coming to any of its global counterparts, but we imagine the healthy dev community will likely cook up a few happy options in a worst-case scenario.

NASA’s Curiosity rover receives long-distance OTA update, ‘brain transplant’ on Mars

NASA's Curiosity rover receives longdistance OTA update, brain transplant on Mars

Think it’s nifty when your carrier deigns to provide your smartphone with that long awaited OTA update? That’s nothing. Over the weekend, NASA’s Curiosity rover will be receiving its first long-distance OTA update — all the way out there on Mars. The goal is to transition both redundant main computers from software suited for landing the vehicle to software optimized for surface exploration — such as driving, obstacle avoidance and using the robotic arm. NASA calls it a “brain transplant” and points out that the software was actually uploaded during the flight from Earth. Now can someone please enable OTA downloads for the human brain? We’d really like to know kung fu. PR after the break.

Sprint starts rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich update to HTC EVO 3D

Sprint starts rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich update to HTC EVO 3D

It’s official: we can finally add Sprint’s three-dimensional EVO to that endeavoring list of slabs running Ice Cream Sandwich. According to multiple tipsters, and promptly confirmed by The Now Network’s legitimate support page, Google’s ICS assortment is now being delivered OTA — a wee bit earlier than expected, no less — to the now-discontinued HTC EVO 3D. As we could imagine, the tasty software update brings previously known features to the 4.3-inch device, including folders, improved browser, resizable widgets and the crowd-pleasing Face Unlock method. Needless to say, Sprint certainly took its sweet time to dish out the long-awaited 4.0 nuggets — but better late than never, right?

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Google updates YouTube, Nexus Q and Play Movies & TV apps in one fell swoop

Google updates YouTube, Nexus Q and Play Movies & TV apps in one fell swoop

As software updates go, this Mountain View hat trick scores low on the excitement scale. Starting today, a trio of version bumps are slated to rollout, bringing minor bug fixes to Play Movies & TV and YouTube, while also giving owners of older, non-ICS handsets the ability to control that latter app remotely. Additionally, tweaks have been made to improve the Nexus Q’s guest mode, which should come in handy as support for that odd peripheral has now been bolstered to include devices running Gingerbread and up. Sure, this trine of refreshed Google apps won’t necessarily set your pulses racing, nor will it satisfy your Jelly Bean cravings. But, hey, you take what you can get.
