Hasta La Gadget!

Well, well, would you look at that? Staying true to what we’d heard yesterday, it appears that long-awaited Android 4.1 refresh is finally making its way to Sprint’s own flavor of the Galaxy Nexus. As expected, the Jelly Bean update brings a slew of familiar, but rather marvelous features to the Now Network’s GNex, including Google Now, an improved notification and voice search system, offline dictation and, of course, a smoother UI that’s made possible by Mountain View’s now-famed Project Butter. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the Nexus S 4G, as the 4.1.x goods are still MIA for this device — however, we’ll be sure to let you know if that changes any time soon. In the meantime, those lucky Sprint Galaxy Nexus owners can eagerly “check now” for updates on their handset, and don’t forget to tell us how much you’re liking it so far.

Update: We’re receiving tips that Android 4.1 is now available to Nexus S 4G users, too. Word is that it’s a phased rollout, so check now and then check often. [Thanks, Jesse]

You know who’s likely to buy the MacBook Pro with Retina Display? Creative professionals (obviously). So you know what programs should really be optimized for that 2,880 x 1,800 screen? Try Photoshop, or Lightroom. Adobe hears your frustration, and apparently empathizes mightily: the company just posted a blog post promising Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 4 and Photoshop Touch will support HiDPI, including the MacBook Pro’s Retina Display, within the “coming months.” (No, this near-term update does not include Photoshop Elements, unfortunately.) While that timetable is on the vague side, the outfit says having a Creative Cloud membership will ensure you get that update sooner. Until then, your frankengadget renders will still look a little blurry, sorry.

Even though Jelly Bean’s the latest mobile OS to come out of Mountain View, there are still OEMs and carriers working on delivering the not-so-fresh Ice Cream Sandwich update to some of their earlier handsets. Now, unlike what we’d previously heard, it appears HTC’s Incredible S won’t be on the receiving end of said 4.0.x refresh, with Bell Mobility taking to Twitter to reveal that the Taiwanese outfit “will not be updating the Incredible S with ICS.” Still, things could potentially take a turn for the best, as the Canadian carrier told a cheerless S owner, “If that changes, I’ll let you know.” As for us, well, we’ll have to hold off on making any changes to our current Ice Cream Sandwich list.

If Ubuntu is your OS of choice, you’ve already been enjoying so-called lenses to help you search through your music, videos, apps and documents. So why not a search filter for photos? Why not indeed, said the folks at Canonical. The dev team has just updated the operating system (version 12.10) with a Photo Lens that lets you search your pics by name, tag or EXIF data. What’s more, in addition to searching photos stored locally, you can pull in pictures stored on sites like Facebook and Flickr, because who knows how many of your cameraphone photos bypassed your computer and went straight to the web?

Adobe’s cloud-based photo storage and editing app has been enjoying its new name since it hopped off the Carousel, and now it’s appreciating a feature bump too. Version 1.5 has just hit the virtual shelves of the Mac and iTunes stores, complete with a new UI and the option to log in using Facebook or Google accounts. Functionality wise, the update adds text captioning for your snaps and the ability to create albums which auto-sync across your devices and can be shared with others via the web. Alright, so the update isn’t revolutionizing the service, but we’re sure those that currently subscribe are reveling in it.
