The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is by no doubt a tablet that has picked up its fair share of bouquets and accolades ever since it was released, and it was even recognized as the Best Power Performer Android tablet by Good Housekeeping’s September 2013 issue. Fans of this tablet would most probably ask themselves, is there more to the Sony Xperia Tablet Z than meets the eye? The answer would be an affirmative “Yes!”, as Sony Mobile has just lifted the veil on the Sony Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition.

Yes sir, who would have thought that a tablet would end up with a Kitchen Edition suffix at the end of its name? I mean, this is certainly the first of its kind for a commercial tablet, although we have seen some kitchen-centric tablets in the past. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition would come in the form of a white 32GB Xperia Tablet Z, where it will obviously arrive with the relevant software to boot in order to ensure that your experience in the kitchen is a whole lot more simple and definitely far more convenient.

Thanks to its durable glass, carbon-fiber reinforced back panel and water-resistant design, the Xperia Tablet Z is capable of withstanding the toughest kitchen environment. It does not matter if things start to get messy with your hands and your Xperia Tablet Z gets stuck with spills and sticky fingerprints, those can be rinsed away in a jiffy through running the tablet or even submerging the tablet under fresh water for up to 3 feet, and it can do so for half an hour tops – just make sure that all of the ports and covers remain firmly closed!

I will not touch on the hardware specifications since it has been covered in the past, but rather, concentrate on what is new. The new Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition will be accompanied by $115 worth of accessories, content and recipes, where among them include the iGrill from iDevices, apps such as BigOven, Evernote Food, Juicing Recipes, and Food Planner Pro. The asking price for the Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition stands at $649 a pop.

Only a couple of days we reported that Sony had started taking Xperia Tablet Z preorders. It is going to be released in April, the company has promised that shipping will begin between 12-15. The Wi-Fi model offers 16GB and 32GB storage options. A 16GB LTE version has been mentioned as well, but no details about its pricing or availability have been revealed up till now.

However before the device can go on sale, it does need FCC approval. Sony has applied for the FCC’s approval, though its just the Wi-Fi model of Xperia Tablet Z at this point in time. This tells us two things. The Wi-Fi version of Sony’s upcoming Android powered tablet will be released very soon, whereas it could take longer for the LTE version to come out. The 16GB and 32GB Xperia Tablet Z models are priced at £399 and £449 respectively. Sony will be releasing its tablet in a market where competition is quite high. There’s competition not only from other Android manufacturers, but a threat from iPad as well. Do you see Sony’s new tablet making a dent in the market?
