Bowers & Wilkins reveals Panorama 2 soundbar: same body, new features, $2,200 price tag

Bowers & Wilkins reveals Panorama 2 soundbar same body, new features, $2,200 price tage

Bowers & Wilkins this week unveiled a sequel to its Panorama soundbar that looks an awful lot like its predecessor. There are, however, some key differences, including “dramatically improved acoustic performance,” according to B&W. That soundbar soundbump comes courtesy of nine drive units, including two bass woofers, two midrange drivers and an aluminum dome tweeter. The Panaroma 2 has three HDMI inputs and one output, plus an On Screen Display that lights up when your hand gets close. It’ll be available later this month for $2,200 a pop. More info can be found in the press release after the break.

Proficient Audio launches MaxTV MT2 speaker box, soundbars start job hunt

Proficient Audio launches MaxTV MT2 speaker box, soundbars start job hunt

If Proficient Audio’s new MaxTV MT2 speaker box is anything to go by, the company obviously isn’t enamored with the latest slew of slim, elegant soundbars. As the picture shows, it’s designed to act as a platform for your TV and can support up to 160 pounds — enough for even the biggest of flatscreens. The hard, no-grill design shows off the box’s two 1-inch tweeters, four 2.5-inch mid-range speakers and two 5.25-inch, down-facing subs. Four internal 20-watt, two-channel digital amps take care of the power, and with two of those dedicated to the woofers, we’d expect some serious neighbor-waking bass. It’s not just for your TV either, as the built-in Bluetooth supports audio streaming from any of your favorite gadgets. The soundbar-on-steroids is shipping now for 599 bones, and if that sounds a little steep, Proficient Audio assures you that “once someone hears the difference MaxTV makes, they will buy it.”

JBL announces Cinema SB 100, 200 and 400 soundbars

JBL has been sprinkling a fair amount of its sonic-spice atop desks of late, now it wants to sneak some of the same under your TV. Enter three new all-in-one soundbars just announced by the firm, which it claims bring surround sound performance. As well as that virtual surround experience, the JBL Cinema SB 100, 200 and 400 also sport an equalization switch that optimizes sound depending on where you put it (i.e., mounted on a wall, or on a furniture unit). The SB 400 has a separate wireless subwoofer, while the 200 has one built-in, leaving the 100 with the connections to bring in your own. Likewise, the 400 and 200 models also come with Bluetooth, for added audio content streaming options. If you’ve got a soundbar-shaped hole in your media set-up, then prices start are $199, $299 and $549 according to your feature requirements. Klipsch HD Theater SB 3 soundbar

Klipsch has just introduced their first horn-loaded soundbar known as the HD Theater SB 3, where it is touted to deliver detailed sound and maximized output effortlessly, although it remains to be seen whether it is good enough to live up to the press release’s word of covering “even the largest listening areas.” Still, we would like to give the soundbar the benefit of doubt, considering how Klipsch’s track record had always been pretty affable.

Applying its true principles of high efficiency, low distortion, controlled directivity, wide dynamic range and flat frequency response to the Klipsch HD Theater SB 3 soundbar, your ears basically enjoy power to the performance. Functioning as a two-way soundbar with premium drivers, the HD Theater SB 3 will rely on lightweight aluminum tweeter diaphragms that deliver distinctive high-frequency detail, in addition to new long-throw woofers for extended bass response. Not only that, the tweeters are coupled to Klipsch-exclusive Tractrix Horns which are able to reduce distortion and increase dispersion in a more direct manner to the main listening area. Part of the package includes a 10” wireless subwoofer which is housed in a MDF cabinet for distortion-free bass.

Other features include a built-in Dolby Digital decoder, a 3.5mm input, and an optional 3D Surround Mode. There is only one color choice for the Klipsch HD Theater SB 3, but we are not complaining about forking out $799.99 for a satin black finish as it arrives later this coming September.
