Chevy Spark guts revealed, we go eyes-on

Chevy Spark guts revealed, we go eyeson

Details of Chevy’s first all-electric car, the Spark EV, hit the web yesterday, and today the diminutive car got its official unveiling at the LA Auto Show. Since we’re here in SoCal, we figured we’d bring you some shots of GM’s latest electrical offering, and Chevrolet was kind enough to cut apart a Spark for us to see its innards. Head on down to our gallery below, where you’ll find the 130hp electron-powered motor, 20kWH battery pack, and MyLink-equipped infotainment system displayed in all their glory.

Chevy launches iPhone Siri support for Spark, Sonic vehicles, aims to keep your Eyes Free

DNP Chevrolet Spark

If you’re looking at getting a 2013 Chevrolet Spark or Sonic LTZ / RS, you’ll be able to drag Siri along for the ride, provided that you have an iPhone 4S or later running iOS 6, according to GM. It’ll pair with Chevy’s MyLink entertainment system using Bluetooth, ensuring you avoid distractions via Apple’s new Eyes Free mode that lets you disable the smartphone’s screen via a steering wheel button. Using voice-activated commands, you’ll be able to prompt the system to make hands-free calls, play songs from your iTunes library, listen to and compose text messages and access calendar appointments. If you ask a question that requires a web page to be displayed, however, Siri will decline to answer — ensuring your eyes stay where they should.

The automaker also announced an upcoming version of MyLink for the Chevrolet Impala that will let buyers “skin” the instrument panel with four different themes: Edge and Velocity for the younger set, and Contemporary or Main Street aimed at “busy moms” or business types. It’ll also have an optional 8-inch touchscreen and let you link up to ten devices via Blutetooth or USB. Check the sources for info on all the new vehicles or the video after the break.

Kickstarter: Spark Will Let You Control Your Lamps With Your Pebble Watch

article-1243138-07dadecc000005dc-423_306x497_popup3

The creators of Spark, a Wi-Fi-controlled lighting system, has announced that their product will be compatible with the Pebble smart watch, which means you’ll be able to turn your lights on and off from your wrist like a deranged, light-obsessed Dick Tracy.

The details are a little fuzzy – the video below doesn’t show the project in action – but it seems that you’ll just connect to the light and press a button to rock it out.

The Pebble raised $10 million on Kickstarter not long ago and we recently announced their funding round topping out at $71,000 out of $250,000 with 17 days to go.

The project also announced a refer a friend offer that gets you one free Spark for every three referrals you send to the site.

The Lensbaby Spark accessory will let you create distorted photos

Sure we could always edit our photos on the computer after taking them, but sometimes that’s just an additional unnecessary step if a photograph was taken with the right settings and the right technique. However if you prefer experimenting with your photographs then the new Lensbaby Spark add-ons might be worth checking out. For those wondering what the Spark does, it basically allows the photographer to create a tilt-shift effect where they can choose where they want the focus to be in a photo while the rest of the background is blurred out, or “bokeh” if you’d rather. The lens on the Spark can be swapped out with other lenses from Lensbaby, letting photographers mix and match and come up with some unique creations and with a price tag of $80, it’s not the most expensive camera accessory you can buy and could be worth getting your hands on for some interesting photos. More details about the Spark can be found on Lensbaby’s website along with sample photos and a way to place your order.
