Samson Expedition Express PA does Bluetooth and XLR, ships this month for $200

It’s been a while since we’ve looked at enhanced PA speakers, and one of the last big hitters in the category was a little ostentatious. Samson’s new Expedition Express keeps things a little lower-key. The one-piece system will take both Bluetooth audio as well as quarter-inch and XLR instrument inputs, but it’s subtle enough to feel at home at both the beach and the boardroom. It’s also more portable than others — the small, 10-pound box should be easier to shlep around and lasts a reasonable eight hours on its rechargeable battery. The Expedition Express won’t be cheap when it ships this month for $200, and it certainly won’t make up for our ham-fisted guitar skills. It might, however, be a solid choice for a backyard party soundtrack.

Klipsch’s Music Center KMC 3 Bluetooth speaker costs $400, will be available in June

Klipsch's Music Center KMC 3 Bluetooth speaker costs $400, will be available in June

Klipsch is known for offering everything from well-designed headphones to home theater systems, but the audio-focused outfit has been staying away from producing relatively portable Bluetooth speakers. That all changed back at this year’s CES when Klipsch outed the KMC 3 as part of its Music Center lineup, which we’re now finding out will be priced at $400 (or $399.99, to be precise) when it hits store shelves this coming June. In return for your hard-earned cash, Klipsch’s first Bluetooth-equipped soundbox (apt-X and AAC) will give you a 2.1 assortment that’s loaded with 2-inch, full-range drivers, a zippy 5.25-inch subwoofer and a battery capable of running up to 26 hours — this, according to the company, makes for a system “perfectly designed for powerful, accurate sound reproductions.” Don’t mind the hefty price tag? Then make the source link below your next stop if you’re interested in snagging one of these.

Ask Engadget: best desktop PC speakers?

Ask Engadget best desktop speakers

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, then here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget inquiry is from James, who wants to break into audio mixing, but needs some noisyboxes for his desk. If you’re looking to ask one of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

I’m no audiophile, but I would like some decent quality sound for my desktop. I’ve tried 4.1, 2.1, 2.0 setups but none of them made me very happy, which isn’t helping my attempts to get into professional audio work. Is there a lower-end line of speakers that the pros use that I’d be able to afford?

Fortunately for you, James, we can turn this question over to our podcast producer, who suggested that you could do worse than a pair of KRK RP6G2 Rockit speakers, which come in at $400 for a pair. They’re studio monitors rather than purely desktop speakers, but if you want to start working in audio then you’re probably better off with these. Of course, it wouldn’t be Ask Engadget unless we turned this question over to our clever crew of commenters, so if you know of anything that’s better (or cheaper) then fire your answer into the comments below.

Kinivo BTX350 wireless Bluetooth speakers

If you have not heard of a company that goes by the moniker Kinivo, fret not, you are not the only one. Doing a little bit of digging has revealed a whole lot more information about Kinivo, where they are producers of superior quality accessories for mobile devices, and their latest foray into the wireless Bluetooth speaker market would come in the form of the Kinivo BTX350. The Kinivo BTX350 will be able to stream music from just about any Bluetooth-capable device, delivering exceptionally clear sound without compromising on its portable form factor. After all, it certainly is rather difficult to argue with a device that measures a mere 8” x 3” in height, no?

The Kinivo BTX350 wireless Bluetooth speaker will sport a class-D amplifer that packs dynamic audio into a perfectly portioned speaker, making it the ideal companion for those who hate the sound of silence, whenever one travels, or is involved in outdoor activities that needs a little music to perk things up, or simply for music lovers who want to share their pride and joy (their eclectic playlist, of course) with the rest of the “barbarians” (read: folks who do not appreciate the kind of music they listen to).

Kinivo CEO Sharad Mittal said, “We combined the sleek design of our BTX450 and the portability of our ZX100 to craft the ultimate travel speaker. Pack the new BTX350 and rechargeabe battery into your suitecase while traveling, carry it in your beach bag for summer activities, or let it seamlessly complement any home décor.”

You should be able to enjoy up to 5 hours of non-stop portable entertainment with the Kinivo BTX350 using its rechargeable battery, and just in case you do not own any Bluetooth capable devices, fret not, as the Kinivo BTX350 will also include an optional 3.5 mm cable for universal compatibility. Those who are interested will be able to pick up the new Kinivo BTX350 for $39.99, and this introductory price is not going to last too long.

Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker

If there is one aspect of portable speakers which should always be there, then size would be it. After all, if it is too large or bulky to tote around, surely it is not considered to be “portable” enough, don’t you think so? Firebox has something up their sleeves with the £59.99 Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker, and it is hoped that you do not judge the device by its size. After all, Firebox claims the Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker to offer a whole lot more bang for your hard earned buck, where it delivers incredibly loud audio despite coming in a small form factor.

Do not be fooled by its exterior at first glance, where it sports tight curves and a shapely figure, this is still one perky little portable Bluetooth speaker. Since it operates using Bluetooth connectivity, there are no cables required to have it pumping out your favorite audio via its pipes, giving you more than an adequate amount of space to dance around the room. Needless to say, it works best with Bluetooth compatible devices within a 20 meter radius, and will come in blue and black shades, depending on your choice.

MusicRocker Cube Speaker Chair: Literal Rump-Shaker

Sometimes, it’s just nice to sit down, take a load off, and listen to a tune. While you could pull out a pair of headphones, you might want to look into a different solution if you want to share your music with your pals – like this seat with built in speakers and an amp.

musicrocker cube chair 1

The MusicRocker Cube Chair is not only a comfy place to sit your butt down, but you can hear and feel the music beneath your rear as you sit on it.

Each Cube Chair has a pair of 5″ full-range speakers and a 6.3″, 15-watt subwoofer built into it. You can even connect up to 4 of them together to share the same music, and they also have a headphone jack built in, though I don’t quite understand why you wouldn’t just plug your headphones directly into your music player if you wanted to listen through those.

They come in a variety of colors, and are covered with a soft leatherette button-quilted, cushioned top.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a U.S. retailer that sells the MusicRocker Cube, but you can find them over at Amazon Germany for €119-139 (~$155 to $182 USD). Since they come with a European 220V AC adapter, you’ll need to pick up a new AC adapter for use here in the U.S. Also, the Cube has a 240 pound weight limit, so keep that in mind if you’ve been indulging in a few too many of the cakes we’ve been posting around here lately.

Urchin Bluetooth Speaker is Ready for Anything

I used to think that Bluetooth speakers were pretty superfluous, until someone gave me one. From then on, I’ve used one almost every day. The Urchin is a rugged new Bluetooth speaker and features interchangeable silicone skins, giving it a distinctive look.

Its design also makes it shock and water resistant, so it’ll be fine in the rain or even in the shower. I like how it’s got a carabiner so that you can hook the Urchin on a belt loop or backpack and keep the music going no matter where you’re going. It even comes with a suction cup attachment to stick it to the tiles in your bathroom, as well as a screw mount for your car.

It also has a built-in microphone, so it works as a speakerphone. The Urchin comes in blue, red, or black and retails for $149.99(USD) from the Boom Movement shop.
