Rapoo does a slew of wireless audio solutions

We are still not quite done with CES 2013 just yet, even though the show ended late last week, there are still some ripples to cover considering the vastness of the entire event. Well, Rapoo, being one of the leading manufacturers of wireless peripheral products, did take the opportunity to make an announcement of a trio of new wireless, portable audio solutions back at CES 2013. They are the Bluetooth Portable Speaker A5000, Bluetooth Portable Mini Speaker A3060 (as seen above) and Bluetooth Portable Speaker A8060, where all of them will deliver a compact design and powerful sound perfect for use at home or on the go.

First off, Rapoo’s compact Bluetooth Portable Speaker A5000 will be a Bluetooth 4.0 speaker that will come in a range of bright colors that include lime green, watermelon pink, electric blue and basic black. Do not judge this by its small size, as it can deliver powerful sound while on the go, while boasting of a built-in microphone that doubles up as a speakerphone for hands-free calls as well as a 3.5mm jack to connect mobile devices

As for the cylindrical Bluetooth Portable Mini Speaker A3060 that you see above, it too, will jive to Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity while boasting Intelligent Voice Prompt that delivers audio status updates which includes when the speaker is paired to a device, battery life and volume changes. You are able to control the volume, pause/play music and skip over to the next/previous track from the connected smartphone, or you can also opt to use the integrated controls that are located on the top of the speaker. It will feature a built-in microphone for hands-free calling, a rechargeable lithium ion battery and five different metallic shades to choose from – silver, green, orange, yellow and blue.

Last but not least, the sleek Rapoo Bluetooth Portable Speaker A8060 will too, have Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and Guided Acoustic Wave (GAW) Technology. It comes with smart control buttons with a proximity sensor that illuminates the controls whenever one is in range. All three models are tipped to be available before the first quarter of the year is over.

Point MKII Evolution Speakers: See Through to Their Souls

Personally, I prefer speakers that are heard and not seen, but if you’re from the opposite school of thought – and you have deep pockets – you might want some of these ginormous glass speakers for your media room.

perfect 8 evolution mkii speaker 1

Let’s get this out of the way first – Perfect8′s Point MKII Evolution Speaker System retails for $115,000(USD). Yep, that’s a condo or a small house in some cities. But at PERFECT8 technologies, it buys you a pair of speakers and subwoofers.

The Point MKII Evolution speaker system comes packaged in a a thick glass enclosure, carefully engineered to eliminate any rattle or unwanted noise. Highs are powered by a air-motion transformer with powerful neodymium magnets, while the midrange is provided by a pair of 7″ Mg-Cones, and the low range is powered by a pair of long-stroke 10″ subwoofers with 22 pound magnets, located in the base of the cabinet. Frequency response for the system is rated at 16Hz to 26KHz, with a THD of less than 0.2% at 96dB SPL. Maximum long-term power output for the speakers is 200 watts, with a peak handling capacity of 1000 watts.

While I have no doubt that these sound incredible, if you just like them because they’re transparent, then you might want to just go for People People’s Transparent Speaker, which you can get for as little as $360(USD) – and you can still put your kids through college.

NUU Splash, the waterproof Bluetooth speaker

I do wonder sometimes when a particular device such as a speaker is waterproof, how would it affect the way that you use other devices connected to it? Case in point, CES 2013 saw the announcement of the NUU Splash Bluetooth speaker that is clearly waterproof, helping you enjoy your favorite tunes the next time there is a poolside or beach party, but have you ever gave thought to the device streaming music to it? Is your smartphone or portable media player waterproof? Sure, this would mean additional expenditure on your part to purchase a waterproof case, but surely there are no waterproof notebooks out there – at least, not yet.

I guess this means I will just concentrate on sharing with you what the NUU Splash portable waterproof wireless speaker offers, and you will have to make the decision as to whether to bring one home or not when available. It has an integrated microphone and will work with all Bluetooth devices, manufactured using aircraft-grade aluminum for lightweight toughness and is IP55 certified against dust and low pressure water jets. Accessing volume and track selection controls are a snap, and it even functions as a speakerphone if you desire it to. The NUU Splash has been rated to last for up to 10 hours of continuous playback, or 240 hours on standby. You can choose from green, blue, gray, red and black colors at $99 a pop.

Bem Outlet Speaker: Plug in Your Tunes

There are plenty of wireless speakers on the market these days, but sometimes, you just need a small speaker to deliver the right amount of sound at the right place. While outlets might not be optimally placed, this speaker takes advantage of the fact that most wireless speakers still need to be plugged in – at least to be charged.

The Bem Outlet Speaker  just plugs into a North American 110V outlet and connects with mobile devices via Bluetooth. Once your devices are within 25-feet and paired, simply hit the play button, the music will flow. The compact speaker is only sightly bigger than a juice box, so you can hide it away pretty much anywhere. It will cover up most of the outlet, so you’ll have to watch that if you use many of yours. It’s also got a USB port and 3.5mm jack for connecting wired devices.

The Bem Outlet Speaker is available now for $99.99(USD) and it comes in either black or white case options.

JVC Kenwood’s wooden cube speakers offer realtime streaming of nature sounds

JVC Kenwood offers wooden cube speakers with subscription service for nature sounds

This year’s CES has seen no shortage of wireless speakers of all shapes and sizes, but none quite like these options that JVC Kenwood has introduced in Japan. Available in 12.2 and 5.35-inch sizes, the cube-shaped speakers are made of wood and little else, with a vibrating frame producing the sound. As The Asahi Shimbun reports, that system isn’t the best for producing deep bass (making them less than ideal for music), but it apparently fares considerably better with the medium and high-pitched sounds of birds and rustling tree branches. JVC Kenwood didn’t just stop at the speakers themselves, though. It’s also offering a subscription service to go along with them, which will stream realtime sound from microphones set up in the mountains of Takayama and Morotsuka. Not surprisingly, these don’t come cheap. The small one with set you back ¥60,000 (or about $680), with the larger model running a hefty ¥300,000, or more than $3,400 — the subscription service also comes with an unspecified monthly fee.

NUU Splash Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

nuu splash NUU Splash Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker[CES 2013] Bluetooth speakers are dime a dozen, and it is almost customary for a particular gizmo to come with Bluetooth connectivity these days, otherwise it would be considered as a crime by certain quarters. Well, the portable speaker department too, has not been able to shake off this particular expectation, which is why we are faced with the NUU Splash Bluetooth speaker, and as the name suggests, it has a penchant for water, which makes perfect sense since it sports waterproof capability.

If you tend to spend plenty of time by the poolside or at the beach and absolutely love your tunes, then the NUU Splash would be the ideal portable speaker for you, although it would come highly recommended that you waterproof your streaming device as well through a case, or in the case of a notebook, you will just need to be extra careful. They don’t make waterproof notebooks yet the last time I checked.

All in all, the NUU Splash is made out of aircraft-grade aluminum, and is IP55 certified against dust and low pressure water jets, sporting a rated battery life of 10 hours play or 240 hours stand by, where you can choose from green, blue, gray, red and black colors at $99 apiece.

iuiDesign Mirror Boombox hands-on: Mini Cooper lovers rejoice

A company by the name of iUi Design has partnered up with Mini to bring a portable audio speaker that resembles the side mirrors of a Mini Cooper car. We ended up stopping by the company’s booth and getting some hands-on time with the new speaker here at CES 2013 to see all the different styles that the company offers.

IMG_7560

Right away, the big thing about these speakers is that they highly resemble the look of the side mirrors of a Mini Cooper and the front is half mirror, half speaker grille. It comes with a slew of nifty features, including NFC automatic pairing, 10 hours of playback time, thanks to the robust internal rechargeable battery.

IMG_7559

What’s also impressive is that the top half of the speaker (the mirror portion) also acts a touch screen of sorts. You can adjust the volume and mute it as well. There’s also a touch button that enables voice-activated command capabilities for voice prompts. On the back, you have the NFC sensor and the microUSB port for charging.

IMG_7558

The Mirror Boombox weighs just over 12 ounces, so it’s pretty light for such a speaker, and as far as availability and pricing, the speaker will be available later this month with pre-orders starting now. You’ll also be paying $149, which is a pretty penny to pay, but Mini Cooper lovers will no doubt love it.

SoundMatters Dash 7 portable Bluetooth speaker hands-on

The past few days we’ve seen countless little Bluetooth speakers, JAMBOX look alikes, and various speakers but the new SoundMatters Dash 7 packs a powerful punch for such a small speaker. First mentioned earlier this year their ultra portable Bluetooth speaker was on display here at CES 2013 for ShowStoppers so we snagged a few photos.

P1050556

The speaker boasts pristine omnidirectional sound for such a small device. It’s also bundled with an angled stand for directional listening. The stands design mimics an Apple smart case too. It weighs just over 7 ounces so is extremely lightweight, and stands only 0.75-inches tall. Essentially, it’s designed to be nestled below your smartphone or tablet without restricting the view.

As you can see from our images below, the device is impressively sleek and we can confirm it’s rather light and ultra portable. Being able to lightly toss it nearly anywhere your smartphone or iPad goes without wasting much more space makes it quite versatile compared to some of their competition. The front face has the power button and led, along with a volume up/down dedicated button for ease of use. Around to the side is a 3.5mm audio out if you opt not to use Bluetooth, as well as a sub out feature if you really want to push out some bass.

Just like the Jawbone JAMBOX the Dash 7 uses a woofer/tweeter setup for sound, as well as a floating and moving battery to improve bass response. This makes the sound much better, louder, and crisper than you’d expect from such a tiny little speaker. Colors include red, white, black, and silver and the SoundMatters Dash 7 will hit the streets in February for around $219. Pretty big price, but that brings big performance in a small package.
