Spock Riding a Unicorn over a Rainbow…Fascinating

Whatever you have going on today, no matter how stressed out you are, things are about to get better. I present to you, Spock riding an unicorn over a rainbow. Yeah. Life is awesome.

Just check out the image and take a deep breath. Relax. And thank Tim O’Brien who made this painting for an issue of Men’s Health. THIS was in Men’s Health? Clearly I have to start reading that magazine.

Now I want to see the Star Trek TOS episode where this happens. I bet Kirk is riding one too. And McCoy. McCoy is probably hanging on for dear life and grumbling about how man wasn’t meant to ride such a beast. Why beam up to the Enterprise when you can ride a unicorn?

Netflix Removes Star Trek III to Fix the Klingon and Vulcan Subtitles

Apparently, Netflix pulled Star Trek III: The Search for Spock from its instant streaming service. The company has had much criticism over errors in the way it’s streaming movies, especially the subtitles. Specifically, they pulled The Search for Spock to correct the Vulcan and Klingon subtitles.
st3
Apparently, the film had been streaming with English dubbing over the alien languages, but the service will reinstate the original audio and supplement it with English subtitles. But not the ones from the original DVDs – Netflix will use their own subtitles instead, ensuring the accuracy of the Klingon-to-English and Vulcan-to-English translations. I think they must be finished correcting them already, because I am able to pull up the movie on Netflix, though I don’t have the time to watch it right now.

This seems pretty stupid. The subtitles are already on the DVDs. I guess the folks at Netflix have some spare time on their hands.

Thumbs up for These Awesome Fingertip Portraits

Artist Dito Von Tease creates hilarious, yet totally recognizable portraits of famous people and pop culture icons by dressing up and manipulating close-up images of fingertips – including his own.

These clever images include everyone from Steve Jobs to Mr. T to Pikachu to Alex from A Clockwork Orange. Each one has its own unique charm, but at the end of the day, you’re simply looking at a close up of somebody’s finger. Click on the (literal) thumbnails below to check out some of my favorites:

Spock + Soccer = Spocker?

While much of the world knows the game with a round black and white ball as “football,” here in the U.S., we call the game “soccer.” So this picture of multiple Spocks dressed up in soccer uniforms probably only makes sense here, in Canada and maybe Australia. Er, actually, it doesn’t make sense at all.

But that doesn’t mean the image doesn’t make me giggle like a little schoolgirl. There’s just something so silly about this image by artist Tommervik that I want to make it the wallpaper on my computer now.

But if your ambitions are greater than desktop wallpaper, you can pick up an 11×14 canvas print of this goofy image over on Etsy for $140(USD). It’ll look great alongside that Mona Lisa you picked up a couple of years back.

Plush Spocktopus is More Logical Than It Looks

If Spock had eight arms he could have done several jobs on the Enterprise bridge at once instead of just being Science officer. This seems like the next logical step in Vulcan evolution anyway. First you master emotions and the mind, then you grow several more arms so that you can work more efficiently.
plush spocktopus
This plush was made by Karen at SewMuch2Luv. She combined a cephalopod with Spock for a friend of hers. The result is affectionately known as Spocktopus – which was a logical choice. The other choice would obviously have been a cthulhu Sulu, which would have been alright, but not as neat as this one.

That’s Sew Spock, a Cuddly Stuffed Vulcan

Check out this 36″ tall plush Spock. It is a highly logical purchase, despite the fact that he looks awkward being so tall and skinny. So what would you do with a 3-foot-tall Vulcan? I have a few ideas.

stuffed spock

If you have a large replica of the Enterprise, you could attach 3 wheels underneath and display this guy on it so that he looks like he is riding an Enterprise big wheel. That would be awesome. You could practice ventriloquism and take this guy to various coffee shops until you get banned from all of them.

It doesn’t matter how you use him. Just make him part of your crew. He’s tall and he’s a stuffed Vulcan. What more do you want? He’s only $65(USD) from Bear and Bird.
