Aston Martin DBC Concept Wants to Give Enzo a Run for Its Money

Aston Martin makes some beautiful cars, and I have to say that I really like the look of this concept DBC. The low stance and curved lines are reminiscent of a McLaren, and it looks very fast and agile.

The Aston Martin DBC concept was created by Samir Sadikhov, and it feels like a mix between modern Aston Martins and cars like the McLaren MP4-12C.

While it’s improbable that Aston Martin will ever a mid-engine car – since they have stated that their cars are grand tourers – it would be quite amazing to see their brand on a car like this.

All things considered, Aston Martin should definitely create something like this, even if it is just a limited edition. After all, wouldn’t you like to see James Bond driving one of these?

Ferrari 458 Speciale: Making the Italia Even More Special(e)

Is it possible to improve the Ferrari 458 Italia? Well, even Ferrari seems to think so, thanks to the plethora of different versions of the car that are available right now. The latest and greatest is the Speciale, which will premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10th, in Germany.

When compared with a stock 458, the Ferrari 458 Speciale has an improved aerodynamic efficiency index, making it more slippery at faster speeds. It’s got a more powerful naturally-aspirated 4.5L V8, that develops 596 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. This will make it go pretty fast –  from 0 to 62 mph in just three seconds. It’s also got the highest lateral acceleration (1.33 G) of any Ferrari.

It will launch in a couple of weeks, so all of you speed freaks can start salivating. It’s definitely got awesome performance, but I kind of cringe at discovering the retail price (which hasn’t been announced yet).

2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse: Lighten up, Lambo!

When you lust after something as exotic as the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, but just aren’t able to spend millions on a hypercar, then I guess you’ll just have to settle for something as mundane as a Gallardo.

lamborghini gallardo lp 570 4 squadra corse

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse is almost identical to the LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, a single-series race car, but it is street legal. Just like the Super Trofeo, the Squadra Corse shares components with the Gallardo Superleggera.

Its 570 hp V10 engine is complemented with a carbon fiber rear wing and removable hood. Thanks to the ample use of this lightweight material, the Squadra Corse weighs 154 lbs less than the LP 560-4.

Interior components have been made from lightweight materials as well including an ample helping of lush Alcantara and more carbon fiber.

Getting to 60 mph takes only 3.4 seconds, and you will hit 124 mph in 10.4 seconds. Its top speed is 199 mph, which should be plenty, especially for a car you can take off of the track.

2014 Vuhl 05 Track Car: Mexico Flexes Its Sports Car Muscles

Track cars are quite something to behold, and can be a lot of fun to take out for a weekend ride. While many track cars aren’t street legal, this one is – and it looks amazing too.

2014 vuhl 05 track car

The Vuhl 05 is made in Mexico, and it’s made for track days. It’s very light, at only 1,500 pounds, and has got 285hp under the hood. Its lightweight body uses steel, aluminum and has a plastic open-top body. The two-liter Ford EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is quite snappy, so you’ll be able to power away from your competitors. Its maximum speed is 150 mph, and it will reach 62 mph in only 3.7 seconds.

It has a six-speed manual gearbox and it’s also perfectly street legal, so you won’t have to tow it around. The Vuhl 05 sells for approximately $84,000(USD) and it will be available in the spring of 2014.

Mercedes-Benz Shows off All Electric Version of the SLS AMG Coupe

All you need to say is the name SLS AMG Coupe to fans of supercars to conjure images of gull wing doors and an epic exhaust note from a massive V8 engine. Now, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new version of the SLS AMG Coupe that ditches that V8 engine in favor of an all-electric powertrain. This is the new Mercedes-Benz electric supercar.

The new car is called the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive and is powered by a quartet of electric motors. Each wheel gets its own motor and the motors combined to produce 740 HP and 737 pound-feet of torque. The electric-powered car is able to hit 62 mph in 3.9 seconds. That’s only a tick behind the gasoline-powered version of the car.

The vehicle also uses a KERS system developed from the Mercedes-AMG Formula One team. Using a standard outlet the car would need 20 hours to recharge fully. A quick charger is available that will fully recharge the battery packs in just three hours. When the car launches it will cost approximately $537,930(USD) – about $300,000 more than its gas-powered older brother.

Tesla CEO teases crossover and sports car EVs for 2016

Tesla Model X introduction with CEO Elon Musk

Tesla founder Elon Musk would like to remind you that the Model X isn’t the terminus of his company’s electric car ambitions. Far from it: Musk tells Wired that Tesla’s 2016 plans include both a crossover SUV akin to the BMW X3 as well as a pure sports car that goes beyond just a Roadster redux. The racier vehicle will have speed, but “not supercar pricing,” the CEO says. He also elaborated on already-known plans for an ‘entry’ sedan in 2015, which should resemble a 20 to 25 percent smaller Model S and cost about $30,000 if all goes well. There’s a wide gap between promises and reality in all those statements, but Musk has a reputation for largely delivering on target — which gives us hope that there will finally be Tesla EVs within range of everyday budgets.

Around the world Tesla Roadster tour back on track after swift repair job

Around the world Tesla Roadster tour back on track after swift repair job

While we might not have enjoyed the full story arc just yet, we came within an electric whisker of seeing the electric Roadster‘s around the world trip derailed completely. The team at Tesla service in Munich, however, obviously love a fairytale ending — which is why they pledged to fix-up the car in the fastest time possible. Just four days after that show-stopping accident, de Mestre is back in the game, and heading south to Barcelona. The journey won’t end there though, as to make up some lost miles on the French Citroen team, he’ll travel back up to Strasbourg, and in turn roll over the virtual 25,000 km finish line. Assuming no other problems along the way, we’ll be mentally cheering the him along.

Scarlet Motors promises an open EV design process

Scarlet Motors launching today, promises an open EV design process

It’s not every day that you see a new EV manufacturer get started; it’s even less common when the company promises a switch-up of the typical automaker’s formula. Scarlet Motors has made its formal debut with an aim towards the same kind of openness in its electric sports cars that founder Julien Fourgeaud would be familiar with from his days at Nokia and the Symbian Foundation. In addition to giving a peek behind the curtain, Tesla-style, Finland-based Scarlet wants future (and eventually current) drivers to influence the design choices themselves, both through a dedicated community as well as Facebook and Twitter. We’ll get more details in time, but those that just can’t wait can sign up to the community beta and help shape what might become their next ride.

Aspid GT-21 Invictus sports car poised to launch in 2014

Car designer Aspid unveiled the Aspid GT-21 Invictus sports car this week, a spin-off of the Aspid Super Sport that was revealed in 2008. So, apart from its good looks that really got me drooling, the Aspid GT-21 Invictus is bigger than the Aspid Super Sport with a 2+2 seating. It is powered by a 450 horsepower 4.4L V-8 engine from BMW that delivers speeds of up to 189 mph (305 km/h). Additionally, Aspid says that the Invictus can crank from 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in just 3 seconds, although we’d love to personally try it ourselves.

“We aim to offer a unique and unforgettable experience when a customer buys one of our sports cars,” Chief Designer and Founder Ignacio Fernandez Rodriquez said. “We believe our factory model and our relationship with each customer will be unique and set a new standard in the market. It will be more like the relationship experienced between a professional race driver and his race engineer and race team.” The company is planning to have the GT-21 Invictus sports car ready in 2014.

Artega fails to sell electric car manufacturing business, files for bankruptcy

As things seem to be incredibly promising at Tesla Motors’ California headquarters, the situation for a competitor on the other side of the world is growing quite grim. Artega, which reached our hearts at the Geneva Motor Show just last year with its beautiful all-electric SE sports car, has filed for bankruptcy after failing to sell the company to “an Asian investor.” Meanwhile, Artega will continue the search for business partners, and will keep running its German operation with 34 employees. The news is disappointing to say the least, especially with Tesla’s Roadster dropping from production in 2011. Hit up the source link below for a (German-language) explanation, directly from Artega.
