This Is the Best Toilet to Ever Play Goalie

Although it’s probably completely against Fifa regulations, Japanese luxury toilet maker Toto has turned one of its commodes into what has to be the greatest soccer goalie ever. It’s a step-up from the company’s Poop-Powered Toiletcycle. But as impressive as it is, it’s still pretty useless as far as toilet innovation goes. More »

Sony Action Cam Review: Not as Awesome as We Hoped [Video]

Red Bull Stratos supersonic skydive live: Felix is falling!

For those of you not already watching the live video feed of the Felix Baumgartner jump from space down to the planet in a Red Bull stunt for the record books, now’s a good time to start – he’s jumped! This jump had been cancelled earlier in the week due to weather conditions then postponed for the same reason, here working with conditions that allow the jump to go on optimally (so far) straight down from 120,000 feet / 36,576 meters above the ground. If all goes as planned, this mission will break more than one world record, and will be more than just a little bit of a good PR bit for the Red Bull brand.

This mission will (or already has, depending on when you’re reading this) break the record for the first human to break the sound barrier in freefall. That’s a fabulous 690 miles / 1,110 kilometers per hour straight down without any propulsion other than gravity, incase you did not know. It’s already a record-breaker right as Baumgartner exited the craft he was lifted up in as this becomes the highest skydive in recorded history. Not that anyone wouldn’t have recorded such a jump, of course.

You can watch the live feed of this event above, or you can watch the computer generated rendering of the event below. Red Bull made certain to show the event in more than way so that people across the earth could understand the epic nature of it all. Now that the jump has been initiated, Red Bull has only to cross their fingers and hope that it all goes well – Red Bull will be a drink that people will be downing for generations at this!

This mission is just one of several such jumps that’ve been made by Baumgartner in the past in collaboration with Red Bull. This man also did a skydive across the English Channel and dia a BASE jump from the hand of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro – if that doesn’t make you feel like the drink gives you wings, nothing else will. Of course if you weren’t convinced then, today’s record breaker – breaking a record 50 years old, mind you – really should.

Nike+ FuelBand, SportWatch GPS add some new colors for the holidays

Nike FuelBand, SportWatch GPS add some new colors for the holidays

The good news is that Nike is adding some new colors to its Nike+ connected FuelBand and SportWatch GPS lines so your wristwear can more closely match your kicks all winter. While the original translucent limited edition Nike+ FuelBand Ice won’t be returning, at the end of October it will be available in new White Ice and Black Ice colors, with distribution expanded to more Nike stores in the US, Canada and UK. If you prefer GPS, precise timing and a multiplatform Nike+ Running app to LEDs, the TomTom-powered Nike+ SportWatch GPS is rolling out a new white/silver colorway. The bad news? If you were waiting for other updates, like a FuelBand with GPS, SportWatch that can pump out some MP3s while you run, FuelBand app for Android or really anything other than cosmetic changes, you’re out of luck. We wouldn’t let that get in the way of a workout however, check below for more details on each or return to customizing some NikeiD Lebron Xs — your choice.

Red Bull Stratos jump not happening tomorrow

All of us here at SlashGear were excited to watch Felix Baumgartner jump out of a balloon 23 miles above the surface of Earth earlier today, but sadly, the jump was called off due to less-than-stellar weather conditions. We were thinking that the jump would happen tomorrow as a result of today’s delay, but it turns out that isn’t happening either. The Red Bull Stratos Twitter account just announced that the jump has been pushed back once again, because weather conditions won’t be much better tomorrow.

So, it’ll be at least Thursday before Baumgartner makes his jump, but it may not even happen then. After all, he’s already risking his life by flying up 23 miles and then falling back down to Earth, so the folks at Red Bull aren’t going to have him perform the jump unless weather conditions are perfect. Since no one has any control over the weather, we could be waiting a while.

When the mission does eventually get the greenlight, Baumgartner will be breaking records. Not only will he be setting a record by flying up 120,000 feet in a balloon, but on the way back down, he’s expected to break the sound barrier, falling at a ridiculous 690 miles per hour. In other words, this is a huge event, so it’s no surprise that Red Bull wants everything to be as close to perfect as possible.

Today the jump was delayed due to gusty winds, but Red Bull isn’t talking specifics when it comes to the weather conditions that are making a jump for tomorrow a no-go. The Red Bull Stratos Twitter account says that more weather updates will be coming soon, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details. In the meantime, it looks all we can do is sit back and play the waiting game.

Red Bull Supersonic skydive a go [UPDATE: Delay for today!]

Today is the day that Felix Baumgartner was originally meant to jump out of a pressurized cabin being carried by a balloon up 23 miles above the surface of the planet. This jump is already a record-breaking jump even before he lands, with 120,000 feet / 36,576 meters between him and Earth breaking a record that’s existed for more than 50 years. This jump that’s being sponsored by Red Bull also has Baumgartner breaking another record – he’s becoming the first human to break the sound barrier in freefall – that’s an estimated 690 miles / 1,110 kilometers per hour. UPDATE: The jump has been delayed for today on account of gusty winds, cancelled until tomorrow at best. Seeya then!

What you’re going to see below this paragraph is a dramatization of the event created by Red Bull to show you how epic this whole situation is. With this mission racking Baumgartner up another death-defying feat for his wall of excellence, we can’t help but wonder what he’s going to do next. He’s already jumped out of an airplane with nothing but shorts on, for goodness sake.

In addition to this dramatization, you can watch the whole event unfold live via the YouTube feed shown at the end of this post. It’s important to note that this drop doesn’t just break a couple of records for the fun of it, Baumgartner is also delivering data collected from his fall back to earth where it can be studied for the advancement of scientific and medical science. Literally dropping your body out of a craft at the edge of what we’ve decided is outer space – that’s quite a feat!

You can also have a peek at our timeline below to get additional details on this mission – if that’s what you’d like to call it. Be sure to pay attention to how Red Bull as a brand is making this quite clearly a one-on-one environment for you and your wallet. It’s the kind of situation where you’re not quite sure if you’re being advertised to – but with the Red Bull brand on every bit of gear, Baumgartner knows exactly what this is: an amazing opportunity to jump out of a metal canister 23 miles above the dirt!

Nike+ FuelBand expands with new colors and iPhone 5 compatibility

Though it would seem that the Nike+ FuelBand would have been compatible with the iPhone 5 right out of the box, Nike has reassured users that it is indeed with a second wave launch of their FuelBand active user wristbands. These bands will be coming in two new colors: White ICE and Black ICE, these becoming the third and fourth versions of the device. The original ICE FuelBand also has a Black Steel companion out there in the wild now as well.

The original FuelBand was launched in February of 2012 and has reached users across the United States and the UK through their online store. Distribution has been centered in this new launch around the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. For those of you that’ve never used it, this device gives you a NikeFuel score for the activity you do during the day while you’re wearing it. You can also display time, calories, and steps based on the basic information the device is able to capture with it’s built-in sensors.

The Nike+ FuelBand will quite soon be available in Nike stores across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada as well as online. This update is mostly for the availability of the band and the color additions, but reassurance is included for the following products being compatible with the device: iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and the iPod Touch 3rd-gen and newer. The FuelBand is able to be shown through an app on your iOS device with information on your progress.

Your progress in the iOS app can be compared to your friends and colleagues as they connect via the web and the Apple smart devices they own. This device will run you $149 USD right this minute online. Have a peek at our timeline of FuelBand news bits below to stay up to date with this lovely exercise-friendly device.
