For photographers, the coming of warm weather brings the boundless potential of exploring the great outdoors with your camera (without getting frostbite). Here are a few useful items to consider when taking pictures in the elements.
It’s that time of year, when getting out of the city has never felt so good, escaping the salt-white concrete of winter and the waste-blown streets for the steadily-warming hills and forests outside town, stepping into the peripheral wilderness of the city for some early spring hikes. Gizmodo tied up its boots, donned a warm hat, and hit the Hudson Valley for a first-hand look at the easily forgotten world of urban day hikes.
If you close your eyes, you can probably feel the rush of jumping into a pool for the first time this spring. We are so, so close. Your gadgets, however, will not enjoy this jump in the pool. Unless they are waterproof gadgets.

3D printers are amazing. You can create all kinds of cool things with a 3D printer. Anything you can imagine. If you wanted to make a 3D skull that was also a Slinky, you can do that. In fact, someone has made it already.
Shapeways contributor Ryan Kittleson created this skull – cleverly titled the Mortal Coil – and it doubles as a springy toy. Check out the video he made to show off how cool it is. And creepy. It looks like a fun little toy.
If you are a fan of skulls and Slinkies, you’ll want to get your own amazing stretchy skull and impress your friends. It’s available for $49.99 to $69.99(USD) over at Shapeways, depending on the material you choose.
Just don’t try and make it walk down stairs, alone or in pairs.
