Sprint Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Update Build GJ04 Released

Sprint Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Update Build GJ04 Released

Just one day after it started rolling out Android 4.3 for Galaxy S4, Sprint today rolled out Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update build GJ04. Earlier this week a document was leaked online which listed release dates for the update on the four major carriers, so far the release of Android 4.3 for various Samsung devices has taken place according to that timetable. Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update from Sprint comes on the day when Android 4.4 has been announced, and it has been confirmed that this particular smartphone is not going to be compatible with it.

This isn’t a major update, barring the fact that it bumps up the core OS version to Android 4.3, which brings features such as TRIM support, improved typing, auto-complete in phone dialer, opt-in always-on Wi-Fi location scanning and several other minute improvements. Sprint will be rolling out the update over-the-air, so you should receive a notification on your device if you haven’t already. Since the roll out happens in stages, don’t worry if a notification isn’t immediately sent over to your device. The roll out usually takes a few days to be complete. The impatient lot can manually check for updates through the Settings app, by going to the About phone menu followed by System updates.

Sprint Spark Announced, Touts Peak Data Speeds Of 50-60Mbps

Sprint Spark Announced, Touts Peak Data Speeds Of 50 60Mbps

Sprint Spark was announced today, the carrier’s new “super-high-speed” capability which is going to bring peak data speeds of up to 50-60 megabits per second. Sprint believes that the data speeds will grow as the technology matures. To prove its point, the carrier demonstrated 1Gbps or gigabit per second live over-the-air speed today at its lab near Silicon Valley. Sprint says that its technically feasible to offer over 2Gbps of over-the-air speed per sector, thanks to Spark. The carrier believes that this new wireless technology will allow it to surpass the data speeds offered by its rivals.

The new service is going live with “limited availability” in five markets initially, which includes New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Tampa. Sprint plans to deploy Spark in 100 of the largest cities in America over the next three years. It expects that over 100 million people in the U.S. will have access to Spark by the end of 2014, while its 4G LTE service is expected to reach 250 million people by mid-2014. Existing smartphones won’t be compatible with Spark. Smartphones with tri-band hardware, capable of utilizing all spectrum bands used by Sprint, will arrive starting next month. LG, Samsung and HTC are few of the companies that are initially going to be provide smartphones compatible with Sprint Spark.

Sprint Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Rolling Out Today

Sprint Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Rolling Out Today

A timetable was leaked last week which listed the Android 4.3 release dates for certain Samsung devices on major U.S. carriers. Verizon’s Galaxy S4 received the update day before yesterday, as mentioned in the timetable. Sprint Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update has started to roll out today, on the exact day that was mentioned in the leaked timetable. Apart from bringing an updated Android OS version, the update also brings the much awaited Galaxy Gear support to Galaxy S4 units on Sprint.

As previously mentioned, the update brings Android 4.3 and Galaxy Gear support. It also brings support for Samsung KNOX security software. There are bound to be a number of minor tweaks, changes and improvements as well, though they haven’t been detailed in the changelog. The update itself weighs in at 537MB, so it would be a good idea to download it over a Wi-Fi connection. Just remember to have ample juice in the battery before proceeding with the installation, its best to plug in the device and let the update download and install itself. Its not unusual for carriers to send over-the-air update notifications in stages, so even if you don’t immediately see your device prompting that an update is available, be assured that its definitely going to drop very soon.

Police Recovers Stolen LG G2 Handsets Worth $12 Million

Police Recovers Stolen LG G2 Handsets Worth $12 Million

We reported last week that a truck containing 22,500 LG G2 handsets bound for Sprint was stolen from a truck stop in Gary, Indiana. The theft took place when the truck driver pulled over for a bathroom break, upon returning he found out that the truck was gone. Kentucky State Police announced today that they have arrested a man for allegedly stealing the handsets, the haul is said to be worth $12 million.

Kentucky State Police arrested a man named Juan Perez Gonzalez after he crashed his tractor trailer into a utility pole, the trailer was loaded with the stolen goods. Police says that they were contacted by the FBI last week, and that they had information about the theft that had taken place in Gary, Indiana. Gonzalez was arrested in Metro Louisville after he crashed the tractor trailer. He was charged with recovery of stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident and theft by unlawful taking. Local media reports indicate that Gonzalez is out on bail. Police says that the investigation into the theft of LG G2 smartphones bound for Sprint will continue, and that it could reveal a “number of people that are involved,” though its not sure right now just how organized this theft was.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 For Sprint Leaked

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 For Sprint LeakedIf you’re in the market for a device with a big screen but don’t want to drop the cash for the high-end Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 should do the trick and thanks to a recently leaked press render, courtesy of the ever reliable @evleaks, of the handset, it looks like the phone will be headed for Sprint, although at this point in time there is no word on when the phone will launch (we’re hearing that an early November release is possible) or how much it will cost on contract, but given that the phone is priced $530 (street price), we expect it shouldn’t cost too much on Sprint.

For those who might need a little refresher on the device, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 will sport a massive 6.3” 720p HD display. While its display appears to be decent, it will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.7GHz. Granted this is not a processor to be sneezed at, it is a pity considering that most devices these days come packed with a quad-core processor. In any case it will include 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB or 16GB storage options that can be expanded via microSD, an 8MP rear-facing camera, and will come with a decently sized 3,200mAh battery. The phone will also run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but should be receiving the bump to Android 4.3 in the near future.

22,500 LG G2 Units Bound For Sprint Stolen

22,500 LG G2 Units Bound For Sprint Stolen

For over a month now Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers have been able to walk into their carrier’s stores to pick up a LG G2, or have one delivered to them. Sprint subscribers have unfortunately had to wait a little bit longer. Earlier this month the carrier opened up pre-orders for the G2, which is expected to drop come November 8th. Sprint might have to send in additional supplies for Louisville, Kentucky, because unfortunately a truck carrying 22,500 LG G2 units bound for the city was stolen.

The theft took place around 6:30 pm earlier this week. The truck driver had pulled over for a bathroom break at a truck stop in Gary, Indiana and when he came back, the truck and its valuable cargo were gone. Illinois and Indiana state police have been brought into the loop, including the FBI. So far there has been no public disclosure of any leads, it is unclear right now exactly who is behind this theft. It is not known exactly what course of action is being taken, with regards to the stolen units. Obviously too soon to predict right now where these massive amounts of LG G2 units are going to end up, one thing is for sure though, they’ll probably not be found at your local Sprint store in Louisville.

HTC One Max Passes Through FCC With Sprint LTE Bands

HTC One Max Passes Through FCC With Sprint LTE Bands

HTC pulled back the veil of secrecy surrounding its supersized HTC One Max last week, which we learned the device would feature a 5.9-inch Full HD 1080p display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot to expand storage and one of the more surprising additions is its fingerprint scanner located at the rear of the device. HTC certainly put a lot into its HTC One Max, although we still don’t know what U.S. carrier will be carrying the supersized smartphone. Thanks to the FCC, we now do. (more…)

Sprint’s HTC 8XT Receiving Windows Phone GDR3 Update

Sprints HTC 8XT Receiving Windows Phone GDR3 Update8xWhile Sprint might have been late to the Windows Phone game with their HTC 8XT which was launched a few months ago, it seems that they are wasting no time when it comes to software updates for the device and have since started to push out the Windows Phone Update 3 to the HTC 8XT, at least that’s what the reports are saying and that’s what Sprint’s Support Site for the HTC 8XT has revealed as well. This is a pleasant surprise as the Windows Phone Update 3, for those unfamiliar, is also known as the GDR3 update which basically brings about several improvements to Windows Phone devices, such as Full HD 1080p screen support as well as quad-core processors.

The update won’t magically transform your HTC 8XT into a faster and larger device, but it will include improvements to it, such as streaming audio improvements, accessibility improvements, as well as other improvements brought about by the GDR3 update. If you haven’t been notified of the update just yet, fret not as we expect that the update will most likely be released in stages so as not to overload their servers, so if you don’t see it yet, you most probably will in the next few days. So, any HTC 8XT owners pleasantly surprised by this recent update?
