BB Verizon, AT&T, And T Mobile Confirm Support For BlackBerry 10RIM is focusing on one thing – to start the year right by officially launching BlackBerry 10 later this month. Of course, success for RIM also means that all of the major carriers in the U.S. will be on its side. Today, we’re hearing that Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile will be supporting RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices. At CES 2013, executives from the three carriers alluded their plans. “We’ll carry it,” says Lowell McAdam, Chief Executive of Verizon Communications. “We’re hopeful it is going to be a good device.” (more…)

Sprint’s Windows Phone 8 Lineup Will Be “Current”

sprint sign 640x325 Sprints Windows Phone 8 Lineup Will Be CurrentEver since Sprint announced that they would be offering Windows Phone 8 devices by Samsung and HTC in their portfolio in the near future, many have been speculating as to what these phones might be. Some have speculated that perhaps these phones from Samsung and HTC could be the Samsung ATIV S and the HTC Windows Phone 8X respectively, and while both these phones are pretty decent in their own right, Sprint subscribers might be interested to learn that the carrier’s Windows Phone 8 lineup could be that of new devices that have yet to be announced.

When asked about it, Ryan Sullivan, Director of Device Delivery at Sprint, said that the carrier will be introducing “current” Windows Phone 8 smartphones, and that they will not necessarily be launching “six-month-old hardware”, indicating that Sprint’s Windows Phone 8 offerings could be something new and fresh. Of course since nothing has been announced, it’s hard to imagine what the carrier could be offering, but with MWC taking place towards the end of February next month, perhaps there is a good chance Sprint will be announcing their Windows Phone 8 lineup then.

Sprint announces FM radio and Entertain Me app bundle for future smartphones

Sprint announces FM radio and Entertain Me app bundle for future smartphones

Sprint is hedging a bet that FM radio isn’t dead. Today, the Now Network revealed that certain Android and Windows Phone devices will debut this year with support for terrestrial radio stations. The move is a differentiator for Sprint, which is the first US carrier to make such an initiative. As it stands, we’re told to expect these smartphones to include the NextRadio tuner app.

Not to stop there, Sprint has also revealed an application bundle known as Entertain Me, which will be located in the Sprint Zone on Android devices. Here, users can access Sprint TV and Movies, Sprint Music Plus, Spotify, Slacker, iHeartRadio, Shazam and Rumpus. It’s currently unclear whether each of these apps will come pre-installed, or whether we’ll find the ability to download the titles individually. Naturally, we’re hopeful for the latter — no matter how good an app is, it’s always nice to have a choice. More details follow after the break.

Dish Network makes an offer to buy Clearwire, even though Sprint was already buying Clearwire

Surprise news this afternoon as Clearwire announced it’s received an acquisition offer from Dish Network, even though Sprint was already on the hook to snap up the company for $2.2 billion. According to the press release (included after the break), a special committee of the Clearwire Board of Director’s has decided to negotiate with dish based on its proposal, although it has not changed its recommendation of the current Sprint transaction.

Predictably, Sprint is not taking the news well, producing a series of bullet points (also in the release) about why Clearwire can’t and / or shouldn’t sell to Dish. Dish’s statement is short and to the point, only saying it looks forward to working with the special committee as they evaluate its proposal. Of course, since Dish is offering $3.30 per share and Sprint is offering $2.97 one can see why the board is mulling it over, but all we know for now is that the “definitive agreement” with Sprint… wasn’t.

Sprint To Offer Windows Phone 8 Devices From Samsung And HTC

htc 8x review 14 640x391 Sprint To Offer Windows Phone 8 Devices From Samsung And HTCGee, that was fast. Sprint was previously caught displaying a support page that seemed to hint the debut of Windows Phone 8. However, we were left with no word from the carrier whether or not Microsoft’s mobile OS is indeed coming. This afternoon is a different story, as we are hearing from Sprint that it will be offering two new devices running Windows Phone 8 – one from Samsung and the other from HTC. Albeit this is a milestone for Sprint, the details of the two devices remain hidden, at least for now. (more…)

Sprint announces summer timeframe for Windows Phone launch, partners with Samsung and HTC

Sprint’s the last of the big four carriers in the US to launch Windows Phone 8 products, but the platform’s presence on the Now Network may be closer to a reality. The company announced today that it will be launching Windows Phones this summer and will be working with HTC and Samsung to make it happen. We naturally were left without any additional details on the actual devices, but that will of course come with time as we approach the anticipated launch. Head below to get the full press release.

Sprint Support Page Says Windows Phone 8 Is “Coming Soon”

sprint sign 640x325 Sprint Support Page Says Windows Phone 8 Is Coming SoonAt the moment one can pick up a Windows Phone 8 device from carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, but if you’re a Sprint subscriber looking to hop aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon, well tough luck – or maybe not. Thanks to an update on Sprint’s support page regarding Windows Phone 8, all Sprint had to say was that “Windows Phone 8 is coming soon!” Not too long ago Sprint revealed that they were working with Microsoft to bring Windows Phone devices onto its network and they mentioned that Windows Phone 8 devices would be arriving in 2013, but unfortunately no dates were given. However the update to the support page still does not give us any dates to look forward to, but with CES currently underway with MWC taking place next month, perhaps Sprint could be taking those events to announce their range of Windows Phone 8 devices. We’ll keep our eyes peeled so be sure to check back with us later for the details.

Sprint confirms pay-as-you-go service, promises not to throttle speeds or cap data

Word of a Sprint pay-as-you-go service crossed our desks just yesterday in the form of a leaked slide, and now Big Yellow has confirmed to FierceWireless that the effort, dubbed Sprint As You Go, will launch on January 25th. The Now Network’s new initiative will offer a $70 monthly plan for smartphones and a $50-a-month plan for feature phones. Both options won’t offer premium features such as WiFi tethering and Sprint Navigation, but Sprint says customers will see neither hide nor hair of data caps or speed throttling. As for hardware, the smartphone tier includes the LTE-enabled Samsung Victory at $250 and the LG Optimus Elite for $150. On the feature phone end of the spectrum, Samsung’s Array and M400 handsets are available on the service (presumably ringing up at $80 and $50, respectively). Angling to take advantage of Sprint’s new offer? You’ll have to forgo online shopping this time, as the firm is making the offer available exclusively through it’s brick-and-mortar Sprint Stores.

Sprint Offers Pay As You Go Service From January 25th Onwards

sprint pricing Sprint Offers Pay As You Go Service From January 25th OnwardsWhile most of us out there would settle for a full contract for a smartphone in order to get the kind of steep discount that would normally not be applied if one were to pick up an unsubsidized and unlocked handset, there are others who do not need that many minutes to talk in their lives, which is where a prepaid service, or Pay As You Go (PAYG) comes in handy. Sprint themselves have a fair number of prepaid options to choose from, where no-contract plans are available via a pair of subsidiaries, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile.

Alleged internal documents picked up by Android Police do point towards Sprint jumping into the prepaid business all by itself, offering self-branded no-contract phones to consumers along the way. Some of the alleged deals include unlimited talk, text and web for $70, with its fair share of fine print to sift through, of course. Well, only time will tell whether the deals are legit or not – and more importantly, whether they are worth looking into.
