Possible Final Fantasy V And VI Announcements Teased For 17th January

ff5 6 Possible Final Fantasy V And VI Announcements Teased For 17th JanuaryBack in December 2012, it was hinted that Final Fantasy V “and more” could be ported onto iOS. This followed the release of Final Fantasy IV on iOS and towards the end of the trailer, the teaser was revealed. Now Square Enix has since set up a teaser website where sprite outlines and a date (17th January) was revealed. According to Siliconera, the sprite outlines are that of the Behemoth from Final Fantasy VI along with possible character sprites from Final Fantasy V, suggesting that perhaps an announcement of some sort could be taking place on the 17th. Given that both games have already been launched for their respective platforms, and the teaser released by Square Enix in 2012, we guess we wouldn’t be surprised if the announcement had to do with Final Fantasy V and VI being released, or at least getting a release date for iOS. Either way with 17th of January only a couple of days away, we guess we won’t have to wait long to find out. In the meantime who else is excited by this?

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn EU Beta Sign Up Page Now Live

A couple of weeks ago back in 2012, we reported on Square Enix’s plans for the beta testing of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Now the good news is that if you wanted to get in on some beta action, it looks like the sign up page for EU has gone live. Of course signing up does not necessarily guarantee you a spot as according to the sign up page, there are some requirements that players must meet before even being considered for the beta. (more…)

Multiplayer mode confirmed for Tomb Raider reboot

The Tomb Raider franchise will be getting a highly anticipated reboot next year, but when this new game arrives, it will be sporting some features that series veterans will find unfamiliar. After a UK listing for the game set off rumors about a Tomb Raider multiplayer mode, Crystal Dynamics today confirmed it. For better or worse, the next Tomb Raider title will indeed have multiplayer.

Crystal Dynamics global brand director Karl Stewart announced the mode on Twitter earlier today, saying that details can be found in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine. Since subscribers won’t be getting the magazine until tomorrow and it’ll be January 8 by the time the magazine makes it to news stands, details are still pretty slim. OXM’s teaser for the issue doesn’t give anything away either, so it looks like we’ll be stuck waiting for a little bit.

This is a move that’s bound to cause some controversy among Tomb Raider fans and gamers in general. There are some gamers who can’t get enough multiplayer and others who have no problem pushing back against perceived “tacked on” multiplayer modes. Tomb Raider has largely been a single player experience, so the introduction of a multiplayer mode may not sit well with some longtime fans.

Then again, maybe Crystal Dynamics will knock it out of the park and deliver a multiplayer mode worth playing over and over. BioWare did that with the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3, which was something that surprised everyone, so it has been done before. We’ll just have to see what kind of details the next issue of Official Xbox Magazine holds before we begin jumping to conclusions. Tomb Raider will be launching for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on March 5, 2013.

All 6 Tomb Raider titles now available on Steam

As most Tomb Raider fans are probably aware by now, the franchise will be getting a reboot come 2013, and for gamers who want to relive the good old days before moving on, or for gamers who are wondering what the fuss behind Tomb Raider is all about, the good news is that Square Enix has announced via their blog that all previous six Tomb Raider games will be available for purchase and download via Steam! Given that the original Tomb Raider is such an old game, trying to find it at your local gaming store might be a bit tricky, so by putting it on Steam it will make the lives of some gamers a bit more convenient. Each Tomb Raider title on Steam will be retailing for $9.99 each, which means you will need to drop close to $60 for all 6 which doesn’t seem like a bad deal. So, anyone looking to relive the glory days?

Final Fantasy Type-0 Localization Close To Completion In 2011 (Rumor)

It seemed that there is a new rumor going around, touting that Final Fantasy Type-0 localization was well on its way to being complete before the project was dumped – at least this is what an anonymous source stepped forward to say. Apparently, the anonymous source in question got in touch with Operation Suzaku, which is actually a fan group that lobbies for the portable RPG’s release in English speaking countries. One of the voice cast claimed that English voice acting was recorded in its entirety in late 2011, which happened not too long after Type-0′s release in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Unfortunately, the project itself was allegedly shelved earlier this year, and this occurred when the localization level in general was 90% complete. The reason given behind the shelving? It was due to a decline in PSP software and hardware sales in the West. It seemed that Square Enix was adopting a wait and see attitude for a demonstration of fan demand before it will commit to a release. Bummer, no?

Hitman: Absolution gameplay trailer released by Square Enix

Square Enix‘s new and upcoming Hitman: Absolution might be the studio’s best Hitman installment yet, and they just released a new trailer for the game that shows off bits of the gameplay. The trailer is quite lengthy for its kind (2:46) and it features Agent 47 as the “ultimate assassin.” The trailer showcases Agent 47′s skills and looks at some of the new gameplay features, weapons and environments.

Hitman: Absolution is the first Hitman game in six years, and it includes all-new gameplay features, improved enemy intelligence, and a new ‘Instinct’ mode that will help players blend into certain roles. IO Interactive calls the new title the most ambitious game in the series yet, and it features a “living and breathing world, where every moment can become a story”.

The new gameplay trailer releases alongside another trailer that focuses on the recently announced Hitman clothing line. The range of clothing is based on the new game, and it includes clothing such as hoodies and T-shirts. The line was created by Trapstar and will be available in its flagship London store starting November 20.

Hitman: Absolution will be available on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on November 20 worldwide. You can pre-order the game right now, as well as the Hitman Sniper Challenge mini-game and the Hitman: Absolution Deluxe Professional Edition. All three are available for pre-order and will all become available at the same time.

Square Enix could be reducing the price of its mobile games in the future

Chrono Trigger for Android was released not too long ago, although its asking price of $9.99 might put some gamers off. As we had said earlier, Square Enix has been known for pricing their games much higher compared to everyone else who sells games for a few dollars or even at the $0.99 range. That being said, Square Enix has defended their prices in the past, claiming that the quality of their games justifies its asking price, and while that might hold true, in an environment where apps (both games and non-games) sell for a dollar or less, wouldn’t Square Enix be better off being a bit more competitive? Chrono Trigger finally makes its way onto Android

Good news Android gamers, if you were jealous of your iPhone friends for having Square Enix’s Chrono Trigger, you don’t have to be anymore as Square Enix has officially released Chrono Trigger for Android. Yup it looks like after almost every platform out there got to enjoy the game, it has finally been released for Android gamers. To top it off, this version of Chrono Trigger has additional areas from its Nintendo DS release – the Dimensional Vortex and the Lost Sanctum. As expected of Square Enix, Chrono Trigger will not be one of those 99 cent games and it will cost you $9.99. Might seem a bit more expensive compared to other games but if you want to relive the good old days on your Android device, perhaps the $9.99 price tag might be justifiable. Chrono Trigger is available for download via Google Play.

Some Square Enix games won’t work on your rooted Android device

Japanese gaming giant Square Enix is notable for being one of the few old-school gaming companies that buck the trend when it comes to mobile gaming prices. They figure that consumers have bought Final Fantasy for years at $60, so they can clearly pay reasonable prices for premium games. But they may also be breaking another mobile gaming convention: apparently, Android users with rooted devices cannot play Chaos Rings, a $13 game that launched for Android on October 10. (more…)
