While the old-fashioned hard drive isn’t as fast or slender as an SSD, it can still lord its greater capacities and cheaper price over its upstart rival. TDK thinks it’s extended the mediums lead in that area by tweaking the magnetic heads and recording medium of the hardware — increasing the areal density of a unit to 1.5 TB per square inch. It means that we could see 1TB platters arriving in 2.5-inch laptop drives and 2TB platters in desktop modules, meaning even your commuting machine can store all of your heftiest data with ease.

These 2.5-inch SSDs are equipped with MLC NAND Flash memory chips, a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a SandForce 2281 controller, a built-in 128-bit AES hardware encryption, a MTBF of 1 million hours and can deliver read and write speeds of up to 500MB/s and 450MB/s, respectively. Green House hits back with a new line of SSDs, the GH-SSD32A. Coming in 60GB, 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities, these 2.5-inch SSDs are equipped with MLC NAND Flash memory chips, a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a SandForce SF-2281 controller, TRIM support, a built-in ECC function and can deliver read and write speeds of up to 550MB/s and 500MB/s, respectively. Silicon Power has introduced a new line of SSDs, the Slim S70. Coming in 60GB, 120GB, 240GB and 480GB sizes, these slim 2.5-inch SSDs (7mm thick) are packed with a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a SandForce SF-2281 controller, TRIM support, NCQ and RAID ready and can deliver read and write speeds of up to 557MB/s and 507MB/s, respectively. Links International will launch a new SSD from Corsair namely the Neutron. Codenamed CSSD-N240GB3-BK, this 240GB 2.5-Inch SSD is equipped with MLC NAND Flash memory chips, a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a controller IC LAMD LM87800, TRIM support, a MTBF of 2 million hours and capable of delivering read and write speeds of up to 555MB/s and 370MB/s respectively.
