If you are looking for a scale replica of the Starship Enterprise, why not go straight to one just like the Enterprise D studio miniature that was used in The Next Generation series. This 1:850 scale measures 29.5″ long x 22″ wide x 6″ high – or 11″ high when mounted on its base.

As you can see, the detail on this model from Quantum Mechnanix is amazing. It has over 100 LEDs including photon torpedos and phasers and even sound effects which can be operated with a four-channel remote.

The ship is tough too, since it is made with a welded steel armature and a body that is fiberglass, polyester resins, epoxies, acrylic and styrene. Four layers of hand-painted automotive paint are on top.

The Enterprise D model also includes a 34″ long x 26″ wide x 1″ high mirrored base underneath that has plaques with the ship’s name and edition number. You can customize some of the features of the base, including the color as well as a custom inscription. Pre-orders start this month if you can afford the $9,995(USD) asking price. The next Star Trek big-time motion picture event “Star Trek Into Darkness” has been announced to be working with none other than Dolby Atmos for superior sound. The production teams at Bad Robot and director J.J. Abrams have let it be known that they’ll be integrating the Dolby Professional Reference Monitor PRM-4200 into their pre and post-production workflows and that the Dolby Atmos audio system will bring the whole Star Trek into Darkness soundtrack experience to a whole new galaxy. This film has been announced to be hitting theaters on May 17th, 2013.

This announcement has Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom Inc., bringing this news to ShowEast 2012 where they’ve made it clear that they’re aiming for the latest in technical achievements as well as cinematic storytelling with this new beast of a film. With the Dolby hardware and software they’ll be using here, the biggest and the best can be a reality, especially since Academy Award winner Andy Nelson and multiple Academy Award nominee Anna Behlmer are up in the re-recording mix laboratory for the Dolby Atmos mix.

Academy Award winner Ben Burtt and multiple Academy Award nominee Matt Wood are the supervising sound editors for this project as well, bringing a revolution to the sound experience with a “new level of creative control” afforded by Dolby. This experience is said to be bringing the “full impact of the sound mix” regardless of the configuration of the theater in which you’re experiencing Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013.

“We are in the incredible and lucky position to have access to the latest technology, the best possible tools, and the most talented artists in the business. We are therefore thrilled to announce that we will be employing the amazingly immersive Dolby Atmos audio system to bring the Star Trek into Darkness soundtrack to life.” – Abrams

Oddly this does not mean that every theater will have a certified Dolby Atmos experience – a list of theaters selected to show “Star Trek into Darkness in Dolby Atmos” will be released closer to the release date of the film. This film was written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci and is produced by the same trio along with Abrams. The film will be produced by the four through Bad Robot Productions and, again, will be directed by Abrams. I’ve gone over and over it again in my mind. I cannot for the life of me remember what sort of socks they wore with their uniforms – or if you could even see them. All I know is that I’m pretty sure they didn’t look as good as these.

These comfy knitted cotton/poly socks available in engineering red, science blue and command gold for all you original series fans out there. Though I think I wouldn’t want to wear the red ones, in the event they have the same effect as wearing a red shirt.

Here’s a rarity for all your trekkies out there. It’s a collectible Christmas tree ornament made up to look like the transporter chamber from Star Trek (The Original Series.)

The ornament even has got tiny (though grossly inaccurate) versions of Kirk, Spock and Scotty getting ready to be beamed down to some hostile planet’s surface. It even has flashing transporter lights and transporter sound effects when you press a button.

Apparently, these were made in limited quantities by Hallmark back in 2006, but you can find them pretty readily over on eBay. This particular one is up for sale at Hooked on Ornaments for $54.95(USD), and if you want it, you’d better ask Scotty to beam you on over there right away, before Khan beats you to the punch.
