Most hardcore science fiction fans will brush Star Trek off as being just another ‘space opera’, but all of that drama takes place alongside some wonderful technology.
Star Trek: the Next Generation Valentine’s Day Cookies: For Your Number One
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis year, give her the gift of sugar in the shape of Star Trek things. Her heart will melt. Just ask her if she wants to go on a Data and tell her that Resistance is Futile. My holodeck or yours? Actually, just give her these cookies. Forget the cheesy lines.
These amazingly geeky Star Trek: The Next Generation cookies come from Mike of Semi Sweet Designs. He’s like the suave bearded Riker of baked goods. I love how the uniforms are shaped like hearts. The detail is really great. They even have luster dust on the insignia pieces and disco dust for the transporter beam.
Mike was even kind enough to share details on how to make your own Star Trek cookies. Make it so, number one. Be my Valentine.

Between Star Trek and Star Wars, which of the science fiction franchises do you prefer? I personally like the latter, although the movie reboot in recent years has also reignited my interest in Star Trek. The ships in Star Wars are way cooler, including the mammoth Death Star, but in Star Trek, it is comforting to see an effort being made by humanity as well as other alien life form to explore new worlds in a non-invasive manner. Being discreet is the keyword here. Here is the $49.99 Star Trek Enterprise Projection Alarm Clock that would be the perfect addition to any Trekkie’s room or office table.
The NCC-1701 will be able to tell you just what time it is, as it projects the time on a wall or ceiling. Nacelles will light up whenever the alarm goes off, and your eyes will be able to tell the exact time since all of the digital numbers are projected in large, red figures. Not only that, sounds from the original series will also be played back accordingly. Surely this would be the ideal alarm clock that is also futuristic to a certain extent in your home? It comes with a 5 minute snooze function, plays back sounds such as red alert, photon torpedos, and Kirk calling from the Bridge, and will be powered by a quartet of LR44 button cell batteries.

I’m a big fan of Star Trek, but I actually must admit I only watched a few episodes of Deep Space Nine. I think I was too busy watching The Next Generation and Voyager at the time, and that was enough for me. But even if I’m no expert at DS9, I can certainly recognize their space station in an instant.
If you’re a big fan of Captain Sisko and his crew, you might just want to decorate your room with this Deep Space Nine wall clock.
The clock started out as a rare Star Trek toy, and was converted into a clock by Etsy seller YOUgNeek. The underlying clock mechanism is a Sterling and Noble clock, with silver hands that match the painted ship perfectly. Unfortunately, you have to try and read the clock hands behind the ship – I was really hoping the entire ship turned to form the hands of the clock.
Either way, it’s a pretty cool addition to any DS9 fanatic’s collection. It’s available for $199.99(USD) over on Etsy. Perhaps you trade some dilithium crystals with Quark and he’ll sell you one.
I will admit that it is rather cool to mix two beloved science fiction properties into one. Take this fan made artwork for instance. It has Chewbacca and wicket the Ewok standing on Endor. There is one major thing that’s a little out of place though – they are both wearing Starfleet uniforms.
The artist who made the illustration is Rey Paez and he made it with the Procreate app on the iPad. It’s a fun idea, but one thing that bothers me about the image is that while Wicket is in proper form with the proportions we remember from Return of the Jedi, Chewie looks just plain weird. In this image, he’s tall, thin, and has a rather phallic shape to him. Wookiees have been known to rip arms out of sockets if you call them a dick, so I won’t go that far.

Bed, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise quilt. Its five-year mission: to keep you warm and toasty, to sleep out long nights and new hibernations; to boldly go where no man has cuddled up before.
Quilter Toni Smith created this spectacular queen-size Star Trek quilt using countless 3/4″ squares of Batik cloth. We are duly impressed with your abilities Cadet Smith, and are promoting you to Admiral of Sewfleet.
If you’re interested in having your own geeky quilt made by Toni, beam yourself over to her website for more details.

The CSX Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal is not a film set from the next Star Trek, but a logistics hub through which nearly 50 million tons of freight passes every year.
So. Neal recently had a birthday. I don’t know Neal, but clearly he is a lucky guy. He had a very happy birthday thanks to this amazing cake his wife got for him. It has a delicious and deadly Death Star, but that’s not all.
It depicts an epic space battle between some of the most iconic spaceships from TV and movies. There is a Klingon Bird of Prey, Serenity, a TARDIS, the Millenium Falcon, and even the Enterprise D. Now that is a battle I would like to see.
This cake is yet another awesome creation from the folks at The Regali Kitchen in the Philippines. That’s no moon. That’s dessert!

Two Star Trek Fans Broke into the Star Trek: TNG Set in 1988, Filmed a Documentary
Posted in: Today's ChiliYou can’t make this stuff up. Back in 1988, two diehard Star Trek: The Next Generation fans broke into the Paramount lot in the middle of the night and proceeded to film their own awkward and incompetent “documentary” as they explored the Enterprise sets.
Captain Stone of the Stage 9 Interlopers shows up on camera here and there dressed in his Starfleet uniform. At one point he even accidentally breaks a prop. The whole incident is strangely mesmerizing to watch. It begins with this guy posing next to a headless Starfleet officer from the episode “Conspiracy” as they argue about filming styles, and progresses through shot after shot of awkward instructions from actor to cameraman.
I just wish we had more footage. It seems like a great comedy.

A while back, I came across a remote-controlled flying version of the Starship Enterprise. Now, the guy behind that build is showing off the next member of his flying fleet, a Klingon D7 Battlecruiser.
This awesome paper model from SG Ideas flies perfectly and would definitely give Kirk and his Starfleet crew a run for their money if they ever did battle. Here, check it out on its maiden voyage:
About the only thing this thing needs is a battle-scarred paintjob, photon torpedoes and the ability to cloak.
